Monday, december 10th, WWE Monday Night Raw will be holdin' their 3 hour 15th anniversary special. I was watchin' some vids with my dad on WWE.com last night, and it appears Raw has been goin' on for longer than the Simpsons, longer ever than Fraser when it was on the air! This reall surprised me, as I hear Simpsons are to their 20th season by now!
You call me evil? My son, there is no good or evil! There is only power, and those too weak to see it. I had hoped that you, Blood, would understand that, being the demon of Darkness!

So Raw is celebrating their 15th anniversary and the Simpsons have had 18 seasons. 18 is greater than 15. Also, a quick check on imdb does confirm the Simpsons started their run in ‘89 while Raw started in ’93. Now Raw may have more episodes, but it certainly hasn't been on the air longer.

Yeah actually. The Simpsons have been around for as long as me, which never ceases to impress this poor little soul. I fear the day it will be canceled because I worry it might mean I'm canceled as well.

We can't allow that to happen!
A Roll of the Dice now with full-size pages!

John Clyde now with ten times the tacky Hawaiian shirts!

Sorry, but The Simpsons needs either cancelled or new, brilliant writers. The latter probably won't be happening anytime soon.
Besides, cancelled would mean reruns of the old, good episodes.

I doubt that. I don't see the old episodes often when they play the reruns, and likely that is due to Fox wanting people to buy the DVD sets.

I'm pretty tired of people ragging on the Simpsons.

Yes it's not as good as it was. But it's still better than like 75% of television.

Hey lets cancel it because it's no longer “brilliant” and just “solid”

Doctor Who.

Not the same cast, or creative/producer teams.

We should cancel it so we can watch more shows like Family Guy! It reminds me of the time I made a joke about Family Guy!

The Simpsons hasn't maintained the same creative/producer teams from day one, either. Just check imdb for an incredubly long list of writers, directors, and producers from over the years.

Same voice cast, animation cels were streamlined and eventually went digital. I think for most all of its run Matt Groening has stayed the show runner producer.

As of this season I wouldn't even call it “solid” anymore. More like “broken”. But that could the topic of an entirely different thread.

The Milehouse as an orphan episode was pretty solid. Homer being a opera singer on his back, that was a funny angle. Funeral For a Friend was another Sideshow Bob episode. Some good humor in that. The Halloween episode had some moments. I never saw Mr. & Mrs. Smith so that segment in the middle went right over my head.

Other than a few scenes of Husband & Wives, this season has been kinda shitty.

Nothing is older than The Simpsons.

Saturday Night Live….a show which should have bowed out after the Golden Years of Mike Myers, Phil Hartman, Chris Farley, Chris Rock, Adam Sandler, etc.

Exactly. I'll admit to a few funny things coming from the show since then, but you just named my favorite era of the show and it feels like they've never reached that level since.

wow, I can't believe this. I forgot this thread cause it's not in my favorite forum area. But, since everyone seems pissy cause I said “RAW is older than the simpsons”, it wasn't my fault. Like I said, I was on WWE.com, was watchin' a vid, and they said it. Not me. I was just surprised and wanted to confirm if that was true or not. ‘89, huh? So, I’m older. Wow, that makes me feel old.

I think Raw may be the longest running cable program. As far as number of episodes though, Gunsmoke had 637, Lassie had 588, and Raw has 575 (as of Dec 17). The Simpsons are at 409.

And to add my opinion about the quality of the Simpsons, it's nowhere near the quality it was in its heyday, but there are times when it's still pretty funny. The last episode where Homer had the “Forget-Me-Shot” was brilliantly done.

Of course, I must admit that I've been watching the Simpsons since the beginning, and I only watch out of habit. I more or less want to see it through until the end.

It's not older yet, but I have a feeling that RAW is going to be on a lot longer than the Simpson's. It still has a little bit to go to catch up to Gunsmoke.
