prolly one of the best sci-fi comedy shows out there.
the characters and the scripts rock, anyone else used to watch this?
i used to stay up just to watch it at 12 am on a public broadcasting channel.

probably my fav episode was the one where they went to backwards earth.

Husband is a huge fan of Red Dwarf, he doesn't have to twist my arm too much as I love the “Cat.” I was always more of a Dr. Who girl.

I love that show. Best quotes ever. Other than Monty Python, it is the only British show I ever got into. Rimmer was my favorite. I can't watch Tomb Raider without thinking of that actor as Rimmer (which makes Tomb Raider hilarious, BTW…).

I love this smeg. I'd smeg for the movie to actually be released or even made.

WHY GOD!?

I loved the ending, it was brilliant. He just kicks deaths nuts and runs off.

My last boyfriend made me watch all of the seasons our local library had… Cat was always my favorite. The show had it's moments, but the cheesy end-theme just about killed me every time. Not in the good way, either.

Loved it since I saw the first series in ‘88 or ’89 or whenever it was.
Great show.
The later series got bad… But Chris Barrie was always good. Loved his Rimmer.
Danny John Joules was good as the cat, but the cat lost all dimensions faster then the rest…
Craig Charles was loveable.
Robert Llewellyn was brilliant in his part, but always better with the make-up ON
I didn't like Hattie Hayridge taking over as Holly initially, but she grew on me.

Wow, I can't believe I can remember all their names! Apart from the original Holly? Somebody Loveit?

I loved it from start to finish. The earlier series were better, but the newer ones were far from bad! It annoyed me that the Hologram Rimmer never returned so, as subcultured said, his growth was reset. Listers relationship with Kochanski was never concluded, we didn't see what happened to Lister and co, aside from Rimmer, and the story was full of plot holes.

But I loved it and wish that one day it returns.
Please, please, you give me too little credit.

I heard the guy who played Lister was in jail for about a year or so which delayed one of the seasons.

it's kinda funny that in red dwarf's final season they were sent to the ship's prison. in an outake he said they were trying to make him feel at home.

Someone
In 1994, Charles and a friend were arrested and remanded in custody for several months on a rape charge. Whilst in prison Charles was attacked by a man wielding a knife. At his trial the prosecution suggested that Charles had taken cocaine prior to the alleged rape, which Charles denied. In February 1995, both Charles and his friend were exonerated at the trial; the alleged rape victim, an ex-girlfriend, later withdrew her claim. Charles' imprisonment delayed the production of the seventh series of Red Dwarf.

In June 2006 a photograph was printed in the Daily Mirror newspaper that purported to show Charles smoking crack cocaine in the back seat of a taxi. According to the story by writer Stephen Moyes, Charles spent four hours in the taxi smoking crack cocaine from an old drinks can, while instructing the driver to buy him pornography.

These allegations resulted in Charles being suspended from Coronation Street until February 2007, and from BBC 6 Music while an investigation is held. To date no statement has been made by Charles himself.

Charles was arrested in August 2006 on suspicion of possession of a Class A drug, and later released on bail pending further enquiries. On 22 September 2006 he accepted a caution for possession of a Class A drug.

Series 4-7 were in my opinion, the best although I did like them all. I also hated that Rimmer's character growth was reset.
All the same, it's still my favorite show to ever come out of England!

Too bad Bek. The more you watch the early ones, the more you realise they were the best ^^

Number 1,2,3,4…. then I dunno… maybe 5? But as the number gets higher the show gets weaker. It's just that the situations are pretty weakly set-up and the lines spoken by the characters get more and more repetitive. It gets to the point where they say pretty much the same lines every time.

Plus, The later Kochanski really sucks as a character. Earlier she was a cool, funky, wry, unattainable character. When they changed the actor and made her permanent she was basically a copy of one of the female characters from the popular British sitcom “Men Behaving Badly”.
You could sum up her character philosophy like this: Men are stupid, smelly and love sex which is icky and disgusting. While I am smart and pretty because I am not a man, I also find sex gross. The only time I am stupid is when I behave like a man, (that's because men are dumb).

She was as multidimensional as a straight line… They also made Kyrten more gay and campy for some reason… Which wasn't bad, just a bit over the top sometimes.

I like the special edition they did of the first two seasons. It brought it up to speed witht the rest of the series' effects.

UH! I hate the altered ones… All the crappy CG they crow-barred in there and making the nice flat video look like blurry film instead. It was AWFUL! BLERK!
Thank god I saw the original versions on TV when they were first on… :(

Cheap CG effects are CRAP compared to even reasonable models when you're doing spaceships because CG looks like a cartoon and models have a million times more detail, more realistic lighting, and ever better movement. It might be harder to do models but if you've already got the footage it's just INSANE to throw it away…
And the Video look made it all look cool and intimate… Making it look like film just emphasised how cheap the early series were.

I liked it when they used models, but the graphics on the early ones sucked in places.

Little fuzzy white lines around alot of the graphics. BLEH!

The graphics of space were better in the later ones, but I pefered the models to the graphics in a sense. Still, all the series were awesome in their own way.

What exactly was this “special edition”, was that the whitefuzzyline graphics or is that the way it used to be?
Please, please, you give me too little credit.

I did hear they were going to make a Red Dwarf film, but due to Craig Charles “herbal habbits” it got cancled. Shame.

Its not cancelled, check out the Red Dwarf forums on the official site. Its still a work in progress and there are all sorts of problems which probably come down to financial issues. Either way, it should eventually happen and if its a success he reckons a ninth series could be in the works.

Red Dwarf is so full of win, click my profile and watch the Rimmer Experience! :D

And I liked the new Kockhanski. Not because of the way she acted or anything, I just thought the show needed women! ;)
