So I've been thinking recently, is it worth the money to get some of these boxsets?

I mean as a kid I loved the show, and it was just one of those TV programs that as a young'n I actually wanted to run home for. Granted looking back some of the dialogue and voice acting and such is fairly poor to say the least in places, but it was just one of my childhood favourites and I wouldn't mind the chance to watch it again especially if it's got some more stuff in it and its been improved and the like. Although I have heard good things about these and I've heard bad things about the DVD's.

So in your opinion, are these worth getting? Or should I just save myself a handful. If anyone actually had the DVD's and could comment on this then that would be great.

Apologies if there is already a thread about this.
Please, please, you give me too little credit.

Its got a lot of corny humor and over the top action. I'd buy the first stuff before they went into space.

I think we already have this thread don't we?

There is already a thread on this. Basically, though

Pros:

Bilingual for those that prefer the Japanese voice cast
Redubbed English
The new English dub uses the original soundtrack
Marathon mode which cuts out the OPs, EDs and story recaps
Cheapest way to get large blocks of episodes
Remastered animation is cleaner than the original TV presentation
Uncensored presentation

Cons:

16:9 presentation cuts off the top and bottom of the picture
Audio quality on the Japanese tracks varies between episodes
Cases are the crappy folding type that DVDs fall out of

Also, with the length of the series, even though you're paying less than a dollar an episode, you have to consider that the series is going ot costs between $200 and $300 when complete. This isn't really an impulse buy or something you should pick up for nostalgia. Make sure it's a series you'll still enjoy before you invest in it.
