Who's going to watch V for Vendetta on Wednesday?
Me, that's who!
I just wish my Psych class didn't go till 10pm… and that my Res VP meeting didn't go till a half hour after that…
Whatevs, as long as I start it before midnight I'm good, right?
… Right?

I've been listening to people set off loud fireworks every night for the past 2 weeks. Guy Fawkes day can go to hell.

…The gunpowder treason and plot. I can think of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot…yes, I probably will be watching it.

Oh, right, the fifth of November.

…Am I forgetting someone's birthday?
I
I have a gun. It's really powerful. Especially against living things.

Guy Fawkes can go to hell.
My, you're certainly getting into the spirit of things!

I'll be burning my own Guy Fawkes effigy on the bonfire of course: with his fine hat and twirly moustache, he looks strangely familiar! ;)
Er……..boo!

anarchy day?
Order day… Guy was a Catholic rebel, not an anarchist. The day celebrates the triumph of the authorities and how they squelched the Catholic plot.
We used to celebrate Guy Fawkes day in Oz, but the Melbourne cup is more important now…

I'm always game for fireworks and explosions, but the novelty wears off when every night, some twit (or multiple twits) decide that midnight and/or 1am is the BEST time to set off loud booming things. It's full dark here at 5pm people, if you did that earlier I'd be fine with it. T_T

I got invited to a Guy Fawkes party last Saturday but I didn't go because burning an effigy of someone just seems a little crazy to me.

One wonders how many of the same people will bother to commemorate November 11th?

At least wear a poppy or a moment of silence on the 11th hour?

In Flanders Fields
By: Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD (1872-1918)
Canadian Army
IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

When I read the thread title I took a finger to my chin and though “gonna bet half the people in this thread just talk about the movie and totally miss what the 5th was about.”

And what do I see in the first post?

“V for Vendetta”

The one time I watched V for Vendetta, I slept through a lot of it (it was really late). I really should watch it again so I know what in the world you guys are talking about.

Contrary to popular belife the movie isn't really that amazing. They captured a few key elements of the book that I thought they wouldn't, but other than that it was really a bastardization and borderline mockery of V for Vendetta.

That and 15 year olds now associate that with November the 5th than the actual story of Guy Fawkes.

I can't be blamed for liking a movie.
And if it was based on a graphic novel that was written to honour Guy Fawkes I hardly see any good reason to not watch it on the day on which the Gunpowder Plot was supposed to take place.

Here, here.
I luckily never lost any family members in the World Wars, but it's a big deal in my hometown because there are lots of seniors living there who lost parents and siblings.

You are so totally British! lol!

Remembrance day must be remembered. My grandfather was too young for the trenches in WW1 but he lied about his age and went anyway. After they shot him up, he was patched back together and sent straight back to the front. According to my dad, his behavior thereafter was predictably erratic!
Er……..boo!

Time to stir up some controversy, but I cant live a lie.
I liked the movie of V for Vendetta more then the graphic novel.
There, I said it!
The ending to the movie was awesome! Anarchy in the UK!
The novel had him blow up parliament in the first 10 pages and then was building up to bugger all.
Yeah, I know, I come onto a forum of a comic web site and say I liked a movie more then the comic it was based on, so I don't expect anyone to agree with me.
But I stand by what I said!

I've yet to see the silly film or the silly comic, but I know the history of the real day and used to celebrate it when I was younger. Although fireworks were always banned when I did.

“We've got guns. All you've got is your knives and your karate gimics”
“No, what you have is bullets, and the hope that when you run out of bullets I wont be standing. Because if I am, none of you will live long enough to reload”
Also the film had Stephen Fry, who is worth the asking price on his own.

So basicly V was supposed to be like the British version of Capt. America(not Capt. Britain). Makes you wonder if Steve Rogers really “volunteered” for the super-soldier program.
