I don't think that this is a good idea.

Thoughts?

I've never read any Iron Man comics, but considering how much effort Marvel has put into making sure thier movie adaptations are good, I think it may turn out just fine.

Im conflicted..
On one hand, Im glad its not some 20 year old unknown pretty boy who is completely unrealistic in the role (like in the new Superman), but oppositely its a much older washed-up actor that no one really cares for. (kinda like Nicholas Cage as Ghost Rider)

and you know, the other day I was talking to my bf and he mentioned that he hated Robert Downey Jr… so, this could be a bad move..

I dunno.. We'll see… Maybe he'll suprise us..
(if he doesnt go back to jail in the meantime)

Hmmm… I liked him in U.S. Marshals.

Since I didn't read the Ironman comics, this movie has absolutely no expectations to live up to for me. I'll watch it if I hear it's good, and if I hear it sucks, I'll ignore it… just like Fantastic Four.

In other news, the rumor mill seems to be stating that Famke Janses (of Jean Grey fame) is winding up in this movie. Who knows if it's true, or what part she'd even play.

I love Iron Man as a character, and actually, this guy fits the part.

He can play a dick, and let's face it, Tony Stark? Biggest dick in the Marvel Universe.

As for Famke, I would imagine her playing the Black Widow, if they indeed have her play a bigname marvel character in the movie.

Just cuz your bf doesn't like him doesn't mean he sucks, develop your own opinions.

Honestly I probably would've been wary before seeing Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, but after I could see him pulling it off, besides, Robert Downey Jr. would be a really convincing alter ego (like a bruce wayne) just a horrible hero (batman) but he doesn't have that issue because when he's iron man it's not like his face is sticking out of the bottem of the cowel, he's basically a robot at that point

I was just using that as an example that there are people that really dont like the guy. Im indifferent really. Im not “thrilled” and Im not “dissapointed”..
In fact, I didnt think Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was a bad movie either and I saw that with my boyfriend when it was out in theaters a year or so ago. He said he didnt think it was bad either, but something about that guy just irks him.

At least its not Tom Cruise. Instead of jet boots, he'd have couch-bouncing boots.

I personally think it's a bold and quite possibly amazingly smart move. If you want to see how Downy Jr. has progressed as an actor go check out Kiss Kiss Bang Bang! and see why I find this news to be promising.

From what I've heard Favreau say about how he wants to handle the Iron Man movie, I feel confident in his choice. Plus, Downy Jr. does at least look the role of Tony Stark.

Hey, remember when they cast Michael Keaton as Batman, and everyone was like, “What?! He's more of a comedian!”. But it turns out the guy wasn't too bad.

Maybe Downey will similarly surprise us.

Weeeelllll… not to point out the glaringly obvious, but Tony Stark=alchoholic. Robert Downey, Jr = notorious for being HIGH.

I mean, I think method acting alone would insure a delightful portrayal of Iron Man.

On the other hand, the Fantastic Four movie disappointed me profoundly, even as someone who appreciates the FF on pure kitsch value, X-Men 3 made me weep tears of blood on behalf of the franchise, and Nicholas Cage as Ghost Rider (My most loathed actor starring as a comic book character whose existence I ignore on sheer principle)– makes me dread any new Marvel project.

Also, Famke is Jean Grey. She simply can't be anyone else in the universe… not that Marvel has ever been big believers in the whole idea of continuity…

Hulk? Elektra? Captain America? Howard The Duck? Blade Trinity? Man-Thing? The second Punisher movie?

Well, the X-men movies and Spider-Man movies were good at least.

Correction: PLATFORM-couch-bouncing-boots.

I don't care too much because I'm never going to watch it anyway, but I liked Robert in all those 80's movies… It's good to see that he's still getting work.
