My fear of fish. :(

From those massive fricken teeth you have to wonder what it eats? And how?

Must simply grab prey and swallow it? Because those teeth would be useless at much else… They couldn't even help tear stuff off like shark teeth… I imagine it would probably latch onto your arm or leg though and not let go!

It does look tasty ^^

Um…wow. That thing just may be the complete culmination of all my freakish, fevered, water-related nightmares.

I can imagine that thing falling for the ol' put a stick in its mouth so it can't close it's mouth trick.
But it's also the reason I stay away from oceans and rivers.

I wonder what ind of fish it is. Those teeth seem rediculously large for the rest of the fish. Does it eat things much much bigger than it's self, or something?

the angler is scary, but i doubt it'll do any harm since it's home environment is at the bottom of the ocean. now that fish right thar is from the congo so it could prolly surface and eat yer arm.

Whoaaaa, now that is a fish. *-* Imagine the damage that sucker could do if it latched onto your arm. I wonder how they went about catching it, lol.

I agree!
The deepsea angler is also a tiny little thing as well… Most people don't realise just how little it is ^_^

About the size of a baby's fist.

it's called Hydrocynus goliath or the “African Tigerfish”

www.aquariacentral.com/
This fish is basically an enlarged version of a Tetra. All of the fins are pointed, there is an adipose fin, the scales are large for a Characin, and the mouth and dentention are extremely well developed. The teeth are designed and look like knives. Each tooth fits in a socket between each tooth, allowing the teeth to mesh like cutting sheers. All teeth are seen all the time even when the mouth is completely shut. The entire body is sleek and designed for speed.

One of the most fearsome predators freshwater has ever known, the Tigerfish has a viscious reputation. These fish hunt in large packs, just as their South American counterparts, the Piranhas do. Prey consist primarily of other fish, but just about anything alive can fall prey to the Tigerfish. Like the Piranha, prey is eaten away bite by bite. Because they have razor sharp knife-like teeth, and extremely strong jaw muscles, they are among the few fish that can turn the tables on prey the same size or larger than themselves. There are unverified reports of attacks on humans.

In packs, so I guess the teeth are for tearing like a shark. Albeit not as efficient.

Man I'm gonna have nightmares about that fish now.

Okay, I didn't know that about the angler.

But the great white shark is still the scariest fish ever. This doesn't even hold a candle to a great white. ;)

The great white is indeed a horrific beast, but I've got another contender:
A little known species of parasitic catfish. If you urinate in the ocean near where this little tiny thing happens to be swimming about, it will swim right up inside your urethra (in a person of either sex) and use a spiked fin on its back to hook itself in there and that's where it will stay: causing a painful infection.

…I can't recall its name right now, but it's a nasty customer!

Uggggh I remember watching a show on that on the Discovery channel a while ago. One more reason for me to avoid tropical climates at all costs, lol.

Yay! I found its name:
Candiru
2.5 cm (1 inch) long almost transparent catfish that lives on blood that it gets from other fish through their gills.
-From the Amazon.

Will swim inside your urethra or anus and become lodged there using a dorsal spine. Surgery is the only way to get it out.
