SITE ISSUES UPDATE - Data retained and restored, but no images. WHAT YOU NEED TO DO

It IS frustrating.

We have a number of issues it seems:
1. Sidebar info not loading (The “My account” link needs to be made more obvious to people because of this)
2. Comics that were created after the 13th STILL can't be updated.
3. People are being logged out when they comment or rate comics.

I'll report all these. Anything more?

If I could actually do anything I might find other stuff, but since mostly I just watch the page and pick my nose I can't say.

At this point should we all just remake our comics?

Also noticed the DD Store is offline.

If you don't mind losing your page structure, author notes and user comments.

BUT, you weigh that up against this extended, forced hiatus.

I suggest that you make a new test account and put the new comics in there for now and see what you can do. Move it back to the old account again when that starts being usable again.
If you haven't got a lot of comic pages posted in your main comic or a decent reader following, then yes, make a new account and use that instead.

Both of my comics were created back in 2010, had to reload about eight pages because I don't update that much as it is, so that wasn't a huge chore for me thankfully. Lost my thumbnails due to the automatic thing not working anymore, but I just went ahead and made my own and uploaded them today just fine. However, I have been experiencing the extremely long load times for the “My Favorites” and “My Comics” in the sidebar, plus I have been getting the log out issues. Seems like I have to sign in twice to stay logged on.

This is new info. Thankyou! :)

-Re- stuff in the sidebar has been dead since at least Thursday. That's a known issue.

That log out issue I mentioned yesterday still happens, but only if I log in via the comic pages - if I log in via the forum I stay logged in even once I go to the comic and control panel.
Magellan - superhero cadets, their worst enemy is themselves!
Crossoverkill - prepare to crossover… to the other-side!

So the forum login is stable and the other isn't? Well that gives me more to bring to the discussion with Lawrence tonight. Thanks!

Thanks for lending an ear ozoneocean.

I don't care about the sidebar or anything. I just want to update my comic books so that readers can still follow even if the rest of the site is shutdown. I missed about two weeks of update.

I've listened to all the explanations on podcast but could we at least get the uploading of pages fixed. It's been 2 weeks.

I've been a software developer for 12 years and if you at least zero in on “one” bug, you could fix it in a matter of days. If not, you should get out of the business.

For other types of business, this is totally unacceptable. No quick fixes, no updates. We should be moving forward not backward.

Wake me up when we're ready to roll.

Is there an estimate for when we'll be able to post pages again? For those of us who still can't, I mean. For that matter, do we know why we can't post pages?

Lawrence couldn't speak to us yesterday, hopefully we should be talking again to him tonight.

Skool and I have had no updates since we spoke to him last on Tuesday. We're not sure what's happening.

You've both got comics that were created after the 13th of January right? These are the ones with the update issues. The only temporary solution I know is to make a new comic account and post in there in the mean time- change your author notes to tell people you're posting in there till your account is fixed.
That is a super crap solution, but it's the only thing I can think off to keep comics going for the time being.

-If your custom HTML saves you can change you template to put in an auto redirection to your currently updating comic, and when the issue is fixed just put the auto-redirect code on the new comic and go back to updating the old one again.

-Normally we frown on auto-redirects, but in this case if it's only to another DD comic (instead of to an outside account) and just to get around this current issue, then it's perfectly ok.

I started my madness combat comic AFTER this happened. Is it safe then?
Been years since I was here. I've been at rehab since. So uh. Yknow, things got interesting.

If you can update ok then there's no issue Mettaur.

Just spoke to Lawrence. He says they're re-implementing the fix to try and make comic uploading work again for post Jan 13th comics.
He's working all weekend on this to try and make it work.

Thanks ozoneocean.

I think I'll hold out a bit cause I don't want to lose my stats and comments. Those are precious to me.

But I might bite the bullet in a few weeks and just start from scratch.

Thanks again.

Same here. I'd feel like a dick if I deleted all the comments people have left on my comic. I'll wait for a solution (with the hope that it won't be too long).

It's been too long already.
Thanks for your patience guys!

We're getting near the third week of thins thing now… I'll have to ask Lawrence about it again.

Fortunately for me the one comic still affected is one I haven't had the time to update so the break isn't harmful but for those putting all their energies into one comic it must be frustrating.

tried to access DD (through www.drunkduck.com) today and got a forbidden access message. Went through my comic and was able to access the site fine.

Not sure if this is a known issue or not… or even if its temp (cause they are working on it), but figured I'd post about it.

I can't open any comics currently. It gives me a ‘fatal error- unknown’ message on all of them.

Looks like my problems are fixed, or at least it appears that way to me. Would anyone mind checking Modest Medusa to see if I missed anything?

Yes. MM loads for me fine.

Thank you for your patience waiting for this to be fixed! We're very, very sorry for that! I'm glad you guys stuck around!

I just got an email from Lawrence this morning to say that Dan had fixed the issue finally.

I see one problem left though: My faves aren't loading in my sidebar.
Anyone else have that?

Which version of Firefox are you using?

So far these are my results for the sidebar dropdown:

MyFavourites-
-Does not work in any browser.

MyComics and Latest News
-Works in:
Firefox 3.5 and Firefox 4,
As well as the Webkit browser (based on Safari) on my Android 2.2 phone, and the version of Opera that's running on my phone.

-Doesn't work in:
Seamonkey 2 (based on Mozilla coding like Firefox), Internet Explorer 9, and Internet Explorer 8.

Got a parially functioning sidebar on my end. “Latest News” is displayed and “MyComics” but not “MyFavorites”.

Also dealing with a very slow duck today.

Currently using a computer at school, with IE 8 installed. Wish I was using one of the computers that I regularly use cause I've installed Firefox 4 and Chrome on those and thus could have checked them out as well. Will probably check those browsers later, when I return home.
Those were my two cents.
