Somthing Wonky happened last night

Happy Valentine's Day. Last night I posted two comics. One for Magical Misfits and one for Magical Misfits gallery. They were set to go live today 14 February 2010. I went to bed. When I got up this morning I decided to check for comments. Both strips had disappeared. I quickly reloaded them and went to work. I just peeked at them and I found that the gallery has four comments dated 13 Feb 2010. They are four commenters who have never commented on my comics before and their comments don't seem to have anything to do with the picture. My gallery gets few comments and visits on it's best day. I'm wondering if the Duck is having some problems? How can I have comments dated the day before I posted?

I just stopped by Danielle Dark and he too lost a strip last night. One that had already been commented on!

Well the duck's been screwed up for a while now but that I think could just be different timezones? I'm predicting that the timezone option is messed up and isn't showing the time it was posted in your zone but the time it was posted in theirs. Does that make sense?

(by the way, cool sketch)

I supposed that's possible but I am in Alaska They would have had to be in Samoa I think to still be in the 13th. Also the comments are not mine and It does not explain what happened to the two strips I posted and well as Jay's over at Danielle Dark. I think this glitch is new.

Six of the seven pages I posted yesterday have disappeared. I'll be really annoyed if I have to reupload all that.

This is reported here as well:

http://www.drunkduck.com/community/view_topic.php?tid=52451&cid=230

This is the earlier thread so I'll lock the other and link it here.

Skoolmunkee has reported the issue. It sounds to me as if the site was backed up from an earlier copy so all those changes were undone. I don't know for sure yet, but that seems likely.

The site being restored from an earlier copy makes perfect sense given what happened to me: on Wednesday, I skipped my update, so I posted a page offering an apology to the people that follow my comic. Last night, I went to upload my page for today, and so I deleted the apology notice.

When I logged on this morning, the page I uploaded wasn't there, but the notice I deleted – and its comments – were.

I'm just a generic member so I haven't a clue what goes on behind the scenes, but seeing as something I removed was suddenly restored, it makes perfect sense. It seems like things are under control, but, yeah, it wasn't just disappearing pages in my case >>;

Two of my updates from last night were gone today too. I'm okay with uploading them again. I just don't want this to be a persistent problem! If it deletes the re-uploads I may be a little annoyed. Do we have any info on why it happened?

Hm. Well, reuploaded my page once after it dissapeared, now it's gone a second time.

It sucks I lost those comments. :( ..maybe I shouldn't even bother trying to reupload again until, maybe tomorrow? Sure hope this is a fixable problem….

Yes, this is becoming rather annoying ><. Same thing happened to me as well for the third time. I'm not sure if I should bother updating tomorrow because of this problem :/. It's throwing off a lot of my readers and I just don't feel like being bothered with the situation anymore.

Ok. I've re-uploaded a page three times now.
This isn't funny anymore.

Just some observations I've made, if it might help sove the problem(s): I've noticed that at least once a day, the site itself seems to go down entirely (that is comics and forums can't be accessed; although maybe this is just happening to me), which seems to last anywhere from 15-45 minutes. As far as I can tell, this has been happening ever since the problem started. Is it possible that the site is, for whatever reason, being restored from an earlier state at set intervals (like once a day)? I've also noticed that, as far as I can tell, most comics (at least the one's I've read) that use the auto-update feature haven't had their pages deleted, although the comments and author's notes might disappear regardless (this happened to a page on my comic that went live on Sunday). I also saw that after the last time the site went down (which, for me, was earlier today), several forum threads also completely disappeared when the site came back up; namely two threads that were in this section (Extermination Station) of the forums list.

I really hope this gets taken care of soon…

Oddly, I had this happen to a Saturday manual update, where the page disappeared, then reappeared with all the comments intact. The Sunday manual update I've re-upped three times now, and has failed to stick. The latest drop happened after the site went down today.

Happened to us too. Thing is, after I reuploaded, and left. Came back the next day, not only was my comic page/comments back, but the hits were back as well.

It's happening it the forums too! I'm sure I posted something on this topic earlier that isn't here now and a lot of recent posts are being deleted everywhere in the forum games!

Also my re-uploads are gone from this morning so I had to re-upload a third time.

Sounds like the cache needs to be emptied! XD

Okay sorry. I know it's more serious than that.

Yes, it's very, very, very annoying, most especially because it KEEPS on fucking happening.and a lot of user time and effort in uploading pages, writing author comments, posting in the forums, PQs to people, posting reader comments is totally going to waste over and over again.

This is unacceptable.

It's not even a bug, it's just our programmer working on the site trying to get something right and in the mean time it's screwing around with the work of a couple of thousand people.

Here's a great idea! Some may not agree with me but here goes.

Why not all of us just not update until this is over? Eh? I could live with that. I bet it would make their job easier too and things will go faster! Maybe…

The trouble is that these “fixes” seem to happen at random, we've no idea when it will be over, we've also no way of making every single person aware that this is what's happening- so people will still update.
It also affects the forums, PQs, reader comments, every single thing on the site.

I've suggested to the Plat team that they cease work completely and just do another freeze over the weekend or something like all those other times. That's annoying, but atleast then we wouldn't keep loosing everything every few hours.

Maybe we should all just not use the site for a while. A newspost telling people to not use anything and log out. Could that help more?

No, since only a tiny proportion of people who use DD ever read news posts because they're always hidden in a teeny easily ignorable link on the right of the screen and an easily missed News link at the top of the page.

That was why even though we warned people in news posts that the site was going to freeze over a weekend and then come back on the Monday, we still had constant PQs asking us what had happened and constant posts in the forums afterwards wondering about it too. Each time it happened. T_T

So no, that wouldn't work. Even freezes cause disruptions but at least people wouldn't loose so much stuff.

Do I take it that Platinum just kind of brushes off our pleas and does whatever they please?

No, They can just take a while to get back since Skool and I are on different time zones to the Platinum offices.
We've received a sincere apology and a full explanation.

Apparently this problem is over now and won't be ongoing any longer.
The missing content was due to the programmer doing live copies of data currently in use on the old server across to the new one. Even after the big changes a lot of the database was still running from the old server.

If you notice any problems related to this ON-going after this date, PLEASE report them all here!

The only other issue I'm aware of that's related directly is the PQ notification issue, which I've also reported.

I was wondering why my most recent uploads didn't disappear! Glad this is over! Maybe next time they'll just put the freeze on DD when they want to work on it.

More Wonkiness here:

“I kinda flipped out about this below…
I don't think all the bug errors are done. I clicked on the recent most quote from my comic Pwnd Randomness after it said the pages I updated two days ago were gone but that quote was still there. I got this (Image is kinda too big for forums):”
