I just don't know about this movie.
The book was really good– but it was just a compilation of fantasy stereotypes. And the way the trailers say it's going to be the most original movie of the summer– well we've had threequels and quadrilogies to boot. It doesn't say much. I still will see it for the sheer fact that Neil Gaiman's work usually comes out really enjoyable–
but what about you all?

–I looked back a couple pages and didn't find a topic about this so I decided to make one. If there's already a topic, I'm sorry.

I've never read the book, but any film featuring Sky Pirates has got to be good.
Please, please, you give me too little credit.

I've read some reviews and they said that the movie is mediocre except for Pfeiffer savoring her role. The star girl and the young hero are both poor performances.

it was funnyish, but it lacked the soul of neil gaimans story.

Clair Danes was mostly good at what she was doing, and the boy that played tristan was good as well, they just had really, really, really poor chemistry.

most of the dialog is awkward and clunky.

It doesn't really look that great too me. From the commercials it looks like they tried too hard to make it the “most original movie of the summer”.

Well the Find the fish sketch in the meaning of life was very original too, but did anyone understand what the HECK was going on? Of course not.

I saw it and saw De Niro as a sky pirate yelling about princess kidnapping and laughed for ten minutes. I just, couldn't stop laughing. I had heard Neil Gaimen was quitting comics to do serious film work, and this was the result. Robert De Niro yelling about princesses on a flying pirate ship… I laughed pretty hard. I'd say its probably going to be a good popcorn flick. Not as lame as Harry Potter or as interesting as Spider-man, but still fantasy stuff with Robert De Niro yelling. How can it lose?

I just wish they'd adapt some Sandman stories into films or a TV show. Talk about something that would be great…

sandman would be an awesome series, would be hard to make into a movie. Which story line do you take? Do you follow Nada? Orpheus's death? Dreams suicide?

Robert DeNiro playing a crossdressing pirate danceing around his quarters in a dress and furry fan to that Can Can song is all the reason to see it in its self. :3

He's such a good actor.

it gets compared to the princess bride because they are the only two mainstream movies of the genre.
