Well i do believe i shall interject here with my humble opinion.

1. Yes i do love yaoi. there is just something so sweet about it<3 only problem is is that I usually just end up thinking about it as a girly guy with an incredibly hot rich guy:D

2. Dead babies are delicious.

My sister and I tried this a school and 99% of the people we asked were like "WTF is that?!O_o
My first thought when I discovered yaoi was "Wait, I can draw the most softcore porn possible and instantly have appeal with not only the lgbt community but also a significant portion of female anime fans? That's a marketing goldmine!"

I don't read much of it but I enjoy it from time to time.

Like it or hate it i dont think there is really a big issue, for example i'm not a huge fan but due to my wife reading large amounts of the stuff & writing some on the side i think i have become a little desensatised to it…

Like it or not, there is a market for yaoi, one big enough to have more than one supplier of it. You've got the likes of Yaoi Press, Doki Doki and Tokyopop distributing yaoi manga, to name the few. Heck, there are even conventions supporting the stuff. And then you've got stuff like Sengoku Basara and Gundam 00 that have some homoerotic undertones and are surprising popular with women.

What should be of note is that yaoi is a sub-genre of an already relatively niche industry. So simple statistics should say that the number of yaoi fans is very small. A small number are really into anime and manga, and I'm assuming a minority of them are female. And not all of them will be into yaoi. So yeah.

Also of interest is that Blu Manga, an imprint of Tokyopop, have decided to raise the prices of their yaoi from $12.99 to £14.99, so what you infer from that fact is up to you. Personally, I think it suggest that firms believe their existing audience have an inelastic demand for price. Either that or they are trying to revenue maximise since their demand is faltering. In any case, usual manga volumes of yaoi go at £12.99, at least a quarter more expensive than regular manga, so it's pretty clear that the market isn't as competitive as the mainstream manga industry.

So yeah, people do like yaoi, just not as many as the internet would make you believe.

I deserve some kind of medal for not being sarastic at all. In fact, I'm going to celebrate with a dance.

The lack of demand of print yaoi is hardly suggestive of the overall demand. Free internet yaoi subsides it :o

But asking the question as “do you like yaoi?” is really weak. I personally like many comics in this genre, but the genre as a whole is overwhelmingly disappointing at times: teeming with cliches, bad art, and horrible, horrible writing.

Back in the early days of Sci-Fi writing, someone asked Theodore Sturgeon why 90% of it was crap and he said that that wasn't surprising because 90% of EVERYTHING is crap.

I've found that 90% rule to be generally true - books, TV, movies, music, art, you name it. The struggle is to find that elusive 10% that is actually worth experiencing.

I'm pretty straight, but I do like yaoi.
I'm pretty sure it's the only thing where I actually like the cliches. I guess it's because I consider it my cotton candy entertainment, I don't take to seriously.
