I don't think the “Age of Remakes” began all that recently. As a matter of fact, they've been doing remakes ever since they've been making movies.
The point about remakes not being new was made earlier, but we've also established the fact that it IS a LOT worse right now. ;)
Mainly due to change in the creative/financial relationship structure of the Hollywood film industry.

Movie industry people themselves are publicly complaining about the fact.

Fight Club 2, but this time, Tyler's a chick played by Megan Fox who seduces the guy imagining her and they start a mud-wrestling club.

I…fail to see how this is not a good idea.
