Hey, guys, have you ever had a horrible art teacher, or just a horrible teacher for that matter?

I showed my teacher my artwork (since it was assigned) and he told me everything was bad. First, he said everything was completely anatomically incorrect, and said I can't draw. Then, he said that I have no imagination. He then stated that if I ever put that in my resume, the people at the college would be extremely offended because I don't put any time into my artwork.

He didn't say “Good job, but-” or “You're doing well, just remember that-” or “You're improving greatly, but-”. My stuff, like he said, is completely horrible.

He told me that taking two hours in drawing a self portrait isn't enough. I need to take at least 6 to 7 hours, and if I don't, I'm not working hard enough. I told him that I have so much homework every night, I can't possibly work on something for 7 hours. He told me that was a stupid excuse, and I have time. I'm apparently not trying hard enough.

After that, he told me he was a better artist than all of his teachers in high school and college, and none of them could ever compare with him.

Bullshit.

I KNOW that my drawings aren't horrible. Of course, they need a lot of correcting. That's not a problem. My problem is that this guy loves mental abuse, and just won't stop. It's constant, and I'm really sick of it.

I'm not dropping the class because it's a free class that helps me make my art resume for college. I can handle this guy. I'm not weak.

He's actually a good teacher. But he's an asshole. And when I say ‘teacher’, I mean he's going to teach you how to cry. I admit, I cried the first time I went. After the next few times, I really didn't give a fck.

So, tell me if you ever had a worse teacher than that. I'm sure you all have interesting stories. I want to feel fortunate.

maybe he might have been a good artist when he was young, but he ended up just a teacher.

My worst teacher…

I got A's on all my tests in Chemistry my first semester in college. I ended up with a B in the class. It was a year later when one of my classmates told me that professor is known for marking down female students because he doesn't believe women should be in science – and had said so a few times. He sucked at teaching too. Put all his confusing as hell notes online and essentially read from them word for word. If anyone asked a question, he would berate them and treat them like idiots (and usually not answer the question). I essentially taught myself chemistry, and, dammit, I earned an A, even if I didn't get one.

(You get a special kind of bad teacher in college because they don't have education training. Some of them just teach classes because they have to to get research funding. A PhD in a subjects doesn't mean you can teach it.)

LAUSD is filled a bunch of jerks but ah so little time.

My advice: Drop as many classes as you can.

Actually, he was pretty much spot on. But he should have told you how to put them right. Don't give up.

I remember my Maths teacher at my old school, he literally plopped textbooks in front of us and said ‘learn’ knowing full well the class was a bunch of idiots. Not that it mattered in the end.

School is worthless. I hated my teachers. My time in school was terrible. If you just manage to do the bare minimum like me, you could get Cs and Bs without really trying. Teachers just didn't like me at all. I'm too much of a rebel and a comedian. Two things schools don't want, people who think for themselves and people that think their funny. It was just a useless period of time in my life. Not that I'm not wasting my life now typing all this out on an internet forum that no one cares about.

Ironicly, and this is funny, I'm now dating a teacher. Talk about sleeping with your enemy! I guess he likes that I think for myself and think that I'm funny.

Rant ahead…

I've gotten an “A” every art class I've ever taken except for one. I had this bastard art teacher in my freshman year of high school who basically picked his favorites and failed everyone else. If he didn't like you, you were basically fucked.

I'm not exaggerating, either. He “lost” so many projects of mine, and it got to the point where I stopped trying in his class, because I got tired of my work disappearing. It wasn't just that I expected a grade. When I work on something for two weeks, I kind of want it back. I do not have a single project from that class in my possession, because nothing was ever returned to me, and most of it was declared “lost”.

And some of it was just asinine. For example, the first “project” we did in his class was the friggin' color wheel. He handed out xeroxed pages of the color wheel and made us color it in. The last time I colored in the color wheel, I was in third grade. So, I did it in like five minutes. I even colored it nicely and stayed inside the lines. I handed it in and doodled for the rest of the hour. That was the first project to go “missing”, and I absolutely refused to do it over. I'm positive that's what doomed me for the rest of the year.

Naturally, I failed the class, because most of my projects were deemed “incomplete”. I finished every single assignment in that class. Every single god damned one of them.

And to make matters worse, my parents didn't believe me that this was going on, until finally enough students complained about the exact same thing happening to them. This guy was such a bastard. I don't know if he was ever fired, but god I hope he was. It still makes me mad to this day.

I had an English teacher my junior year that did very much the same thing, and he DID get fired some years later. I was working with a guy who was still going to school there at the time, and I got all the juicy details. That made me feel good. I was further vindicated when the story made the local paper, and I was all too happy to show my parents that this teacher was every bit the bastard I said he was when I was in his class.

The funny thing about that was that, in order to avoid getting the same teacher my senior year, I took a summer school course that was “taught at a college level” (whatever that means). I will give it credit for being the single best English class I'd ever taken, and I certainly learned a lot from it, but it was EASY! I think it helps when the teacher is actually honest.

Even though I'm technically not in school anymore, there are still some projects I have to turn in. And the reason for this is that they lost them. I already made them and turned them in like two years ago, but whenit was time to get my diploma they just went ‘We can’t find your grade, turn it in again.'

Now, a while ago my external HD crashed and formatted, so I didn't have the original projects anymore, meaning that I now have to do it all over again. Which sucks. There's a bigass complaint going to that department, but it doesn't mean I don't have to do the project.

The worst part is that the teacher I have to turn the projects it to is a complete bum. I needed some formats for the paperwork going with the projects, so I mailed him and asked him to send them to me. He said he would, but three weeks later I still hadn't gottenanything, so I mailed him again. Then we mailed back and forth about three times, him telling me about the project readers, me saying that I already have that and that I need the formats.

It's like he doesn't ever read the stuff I send him. I have to turn this all in near the end of January, but at this rate I'll never finish on time. All because that bastard failed to let me know that they ‘lost’ a project before it was too late. Seriously, he called me on the day of the deadline at which all grades should have been turned in and said ‘We can’t find your stuff, do it again.'

It's incredible that two years after I should've finished school (Some of it is my own fault though), I'm still trying to get rid of them. And they just won't let me.

My English teacher is downright awful. Not because of his teaching methods (although they are questionable in themselves), but his personality. Seamus, as we so lovingly call him behind his back, is from Ireland. But that's not the point. The point is the whole class hate him, and he's oblivious to it. He's a very ‘laugh at him’ person, per se, in the way that his way of speaking, his humour and his hand gestures.

An example.

“Riiiiight. Okay, lock in. Put the cone of silence upon your head, you have your mocks coming, and if you can't deliver, just find a toilet and live in it, because you don't belong here. I need laser like precision.”

He says this while his hand gestures suggest he's trying to build and invisible wardrobe.

It's a challenge to not laugh. Ho ho ho.

And he never gives us a break, we did work on the last day of school. I mean, what? Last days of school are meant to much videos or DVDs as everyone has given up! But not us, we have to ‘lock into’ Death of a Salesman.

I mean, last year, I tried to tank my grades at the very end to a last ditch attempt to get moved down to a dumber class (I'm in the top set for English), but alas, no dice. I'm not even sure why I was in the first set to begin with (maybe it was when I improv'd my way to an A* during the drama section).

Oh god I hate these people. The head of Arts and Sciences at my uni is exactly fucking like this and I just want to stab him in the face. Repeatedly.

Last year i had this teacher called miss bamford, i couldnt do anything right, if anyone else was talking, it was my fault, if people were talking miles away from me, it was my fault then she told me mum and dad at parents evening that i dont deserve to be in that set and i should move down

When I was still in Secondary School, we once had a substitute teacher who wouldn't look out of place hosting a seventies game show. I don't remember his name, but it sounded a bit like ‘cobs and ham’. Why do I remember that?

I once had a teacher who would actually give you detention for coughing. But he was a bloody good teacher he was. Oh, and he once ripped my work book in half, I don't remember what for, I probably didn't show my working out.

I'm not really whining. I'm just telling you about this guy in detail form. And sorry if it got close to a rant; I didn't mean for it to be that way.

Some of you said it's better to have a stict teacher than a teacher that does nothing. I agree with that, but he really doesn't do anything. He just says your stuff looks horrible.

I have never had a teacher that has done absolutely nothing but sit around. The teachers in my school value their job and money.

He does sounds like a horrible guy, but he does have a good few points. You should try to take advice even if it is nasty. Does he tell everyone else their work is irredeemable shit or is it just you?

I have this one teacher… a total wimp. The way he talks and acts, you just want to punch him and tell him to grow a backbone.

If the class is talking and he wants them to settle down, he just sits there quietly looking around. He leans down to the nearest student and quietly says, “I'm just waiting for you guys to settle down.” possibly hoping that everyone else will hear him and get the message. They don't. Every single time, it's a student that gets the class to quiet down, never him.

He's very annoying. You can tell he desperately wants everyone to love him, to think he's a “cool teacher” but he's really just a joke.

art is all they know or whatever field but they were never able to achieve the noteriety or career some have in their respected fields. There are a number of bitter teachers out there. But there are a number of excellent teachers as well that love their job and see the benefits of encouraging the future professionals in differing fields.

Also most artists have big egos. Take failed artist and make that persona teacher…plays out like a winded up toy.

I once had a math teacher, who would make you fail if you didn't write your name on your paper PERFECTLY in curseve.
I'm not even kiding, she would take time out of every class to force us to repeatedly write our names PERFECTLY like she wants it. Now, really, what did that have to do with math?! ><

As a former teacher, let me tell you…the majority of educators out there SUCK! It's an easy paycheck with lots of time off. That bein' said. I wouldn't take ANYTHING a teacher like that says to heart. I've dropped classes where the professor didn't agree with a stance and therefore failed a paper, turned in the SAME paper in a different class and got an A. I've also known MANY art students that are penalized for their style or subject matter. Art is subjective and a ton of teachers teach because they can't “do.” Blow it off and keep on truckin'.

My mom had this librarian at her school who wouldn't let anyone in the library. Even if a teacher sent someone down for a book, this librarian wouldn't let anybody in. Obviously, she was fired.

My dad had a teacher who said he was dumb because he didn't play sports. Today, my dad is a doctor, and we live comfortably on his paycheck. Yeah, he's dumb all right.

My worst teacher?

She grabbed my ear and lifted me up bodily from that grip, and kept me hanging from that ear until I would give up the toy train I was playing with. She was the kindergarten teacher.

I am grateful to that horrible woman for making me decide at THAT age that I would become an educator specialist just to keep people like her away from young kids.

I've never really had a bad teacher. A few forgettable teachers, and here in my college we have a few annoying or mean teachers, but those dudes know what they're talking about. If there's something wrong with your picture, they don't just tell you what it is, but how to fix it (sometimes in the “why the Hell didn't you…” way, but still, it's fixed).

No, it's everyone else.

I try to follow his pointers, but he doesn't really give any. He just rates my stuff, and doesn't say more about it. All of my friends say the same thing about him.

Meh, it doesn't really bother me anymore. It did a few weeks ago, but I just put up with what he says, and attempt to do what he tells me.

There was a history teacher I had in high school that bore a striking resemblance to Benjamin Franklin. No one liked her to begin with, she always played favorites. It was funny watching the people who really didn't like her. One kid set the record, got himself kicked out of class two minutes before it started. Near the end of the year the teacher accused me and a friend of cheating on a paper, which wasn't true and my parents knew it. I've never seen my mom so angry with a teacher. She said if my little brother turned up with her on his schedule she would ask the school to switch him.
