so. somebody comes up with something somewhat original and interesting. lots of people are impressed and start to get inspired. “ hey that gives me idea” but its realy they just do same carp. but this takes a while to get going so msybe a year or so later there is this huge spike in knock off crap. then it gets boring and starts to fade out. yet some people are really slow and or lazy. so there is a long tail of neverending unfunny unoriginal garbage stuff
like this graph i made

Interesting…
But When the thing starts, it isn't always all that funny or cool really. Sometimes it's only due the to some of those early people being inspired by it and creating something cooler and more fun that it takes off.

And maybe something that's a little bit funny or interesting gets a short burst of popularity that brings it to the notice of cleverer people who make better versions, and then that gives it a second huge burst of popularity that is arguably more important and more significant than the first one?

That said, your graph/diagram is a good simplified illustration of the nature of fads.
Truer picture would probably show a never-ending tree of interrelated threads exploding like a never-ending firework (because all ideas comes from somewhere), but this version is still interesting.

You should try applying it to some internet fads and actually having the real timeline to show the progress. That'd be fascinating. :)

This graph also just happens to chart the rise and terminal decline of western cvilisation. Nice work!

I'm pretty sure you could get a research grant for this.

The really cool stuff keeps getting copied forever.

I mean, we are all copying that first caveman who drew paintings on the wall of his cave.

You could probably add to the ‘slow to catch on’. I personally never get tired of internet memes, so the number will never hit 0. :D
