Anyone think that the cosplayers just get dumbass amounts more attention that they need to at any give con. I'm not just talking the anime cons(duh?). I mean, even the sci-fi, comic, & fantasy cons. Hell, even the fursuiters at furry cons are just the most precious buncha primadonna furverts in mascot costumes. They act like just because they spent a few sleepless nights puting together their “awesome Naruto costume”(complete with foam wig, no less)that we're supposed to put everything else we were doing at the con and give a crap about them and the insane amounts of floor space that they and the fanboy photographers take up when they're doing one of their impromptu photo sessions in the middle of a freakin' hallway. Or the complete jerks who have to come dressed as Wolfwood with the standard tremendous crucifix that takes up at least one-to-three people's worth of space in the hotel elevator. They've got a time all to themselves during the costume contest. After that, they should be put back in the world of us mere mortals and forced at gunpoint to wear t-shirts & jeans like the rest of us. Hall Cosplay contests should go the way of public book burnings and be outcasted like the archiac waste of times that they are. You already got a regular costume setup, you don't need another one at the same con. I think that the cosplayers should be getting as little attention as the rest of the struggling people striving for recognition at the cons. Just cause you're dressed like Buddy Christ doesn't mean that you ARE Christ!

Without them, cons would be a bunch of ordinary people walking around and buying things. If you want that, go to the mall.

Cosplayers make the cons much more interesting.

Yeah, I agree with Spang. Jalford, is there some sort of personal incident that sparked this outburst? Do you need some time to heal?

Plus people in costumes are goofy. And goofy stuff is fun. And fun is good.

Yeah, so some cosplayers are a little weird, but mostly it's all in good fun.

Gotta go with the other three there. I mean, if it's their thing, it's their thing. Wouldn't like a person that makes costumes go up to artist alley and go “all you artist get too much attention for your art”

Cause that's pretty much the same kinda arguement. Cosplay's a hobby just like comic makin is.

I concur! Plus watching two cosplayers fight in life, and they happen to dressed as Cloud and Sephiroth, is quite awesome… except the swords aren't real…

Cosplayers are nothing to be afraid of!

Well, unless their costumes remind you of slasher films, but they aren't actually from any slasher film… Then you probably have something to worry about… especially if they're carrying real weapons/construction tools.

So, honestly, the real problem is not the cosplayers, the problem is the playground attitude everyone seems to have at conventions. If the three hundred pound hairy man in the Sailor Jupiter outfit wasn't trying to make himself a complete spectacle, and other people weren't obliging, it would be fine.

Well, what do you want? Do you want us not to ogle the weirdos who have taken all that precious time and effort to make people notice them?

I'm not saying that none of them are creepy. Some are. Quite a bit, in fact. But as anyone who has spent a lazy summer afternoon down by the creek poking dead things with a stick can tell you, it's better to be creeped out than to be bored.

Aw, don't be so angry at the cosplayers! They are only dressed that way because they're different. Like clowns. They look rediculous because they need money. And cosplayers look rediculous because they need attention. See the similarity? Eh? Eh?

This year, school's full of BS!!!

Actually, it seems like fun. I just got too old to Treat or Treat and a Con would give me a chance to dress up. Costumes allow you to become other people, and that's always fun.

Too bad I'm not an anime fan.

to be honest, I don't know what the actual definition of cosplaying is, (but isn't that where people dress up in costumes of characters from TV shows or books?)

If the definition is basically the same as what I think, then it seems pretty harmless, yet annoying.
sorta like halloween for creepy teens.

Doesn't seem like something to blow up about, in my opinion.

yea i think everbody shud cozplay all the time that would be way more fun ! i think everybody just hates them at cons cuz cons just suck anyway !

it's realy just cuz Amerika is so wound up tight and worry about the way they look in everyday life ! if you go to other country like Japan its not like that . more people are looking wierd and theres more crazy toys and mangas all over !
I saw an old guy taking a looks like 20 kilo stack of mangas out to the garbage !
i dont think there is comic cons in Japan or its not popular ; it would be like ahving BBQ con in Amerika !

You better believe there are. Japan has their big comic convention, the Comic Market (also known as Comiket), twice a year. They just finished their 70th convention. It is considered by some to be the largest comic convention in the world, usually involving about half a million people between guests, artists, staff, and security. Of course, there are also many smaller conventions in Japan. They also have scifi cons like in the US, anime cons and even cons specific to cosplay.

And for the record, we do have BBQ cons in the US. The National Barbeque Association's 2007 convention will be held in Raleigh, NC, February 14-17.

1. The elleged “hot chicks” in skimpy clothes aren't so skimpy themselves.
2. The sun won't kill you.
3. Back acne.
4. Shut up about Sailor Moon and ponies already.

I could go on if you wanted me to.

wait. wait. I said I'd vouche for the convention nerds being better looking than before, and I will.

<edit>

yeah, there are still these:

but in addition, look! Normal-looking people!
