Anyone going to see the new TMNT movie? It's supposed to be a follow-up to the original live-action trilogy. The animation certainly looks alot better than most of the other all-CGI movies they've done in the last year. At least this one will be an action movie and not just another kids flick with talking cars or forest animals.

The previews made it look awesome. And considering it is TMNT, it will be the most awesome CG movie of all time even if it sucks.

I'll see it. I heard they were trying to stick closer to the comics, which would be a good idea.
This also explains why the release for XBLA this week was TMNT: The Arcade Game :P

I'm also doing that other comic "Space Waffles".
We now have a podcast called The Random Pirate Comics Show!

Damn I'm a cheap bastard. I keep telling myself, “I don't need any of the current consoles. I can make it on my own.” Damn it! I need a 360! I'm tired of hearing about all the kickass games that are on X-Box Live!

As for the movie, I had very grim opinions of it early on, but it's looking rather okay. I doubt I'll see it in the theater, but as soon as it's only DVD, I may have to take a little trip over to my sister's house and watch it with my neice.

OMG, the *real* TMNT arcade game? The 4-player Double Dragonesque romp? Not the ugly Nintendo versions or the later insipid 3D ones?

The “Tonight I dine on turtle soup!” version? The game I wasted countless afternoons on? The ultimate TMNT game ever?

Looks like time to buy some more LIVE points!

Just saw it. It was actually done pretty well. Of course there were some corny moments for the kids, but the action and the comedy made it a good watch. I recommend it.

The original arcade TMNT game was awesome, as was the 2nd. It became the basis for the Simpsons arcade game too. Even though they don't show it in any of the trailers, April & Casey Jones have some big parts in the movie.

Saw it yesterday, and let me tell you, i didn't think the movie stood a chance. I don't like the CGI look for most movies, and i didn't think anybody could recapture the TMNT feel, especially after the latest cartoon.

GOOD GOD WAS I WRONG ON EVERYTHING, that movie will be, i guarantee will be, my favorite movie of the year! I thought it made everything perfect. I loved this movie, i'm very tempted to go see it again!

For Goodness Sakes people, just go see this movie if only to see Master Splinter kick ass!!

It was simply amazing.

While I still feel TMNT: THe Movie has a few things above this film, and again, maybe it's cos it's the origin story, but the humor was a loss for me. While the humor was more kid-geared, it did feel natural. The first film's quips from Donatello and Mikey were sorta witty-we're trying to make you laugh, and not as natural.

I also had one small gripe, and that is how are the monsters gravitating to NYC? If you watch the movie, you'll get it, but I don't wanna say anymore.

Personally, the best scene in the movie, it's amazingly tense, and emotional, but the Leonardo vs. Raphael sequence.

I'm done. Watch it. Enjoy it. Revel in it's glory.

The TMNT HAVE RETURNED!

Hm. TMNT Vol. 2 I believe, when the comics went color and the TMNT moved out of the lair into their respect abodes, April was training in ninjitsu from splinter as self-defense, but she got kidnapped by Baxter Stockman anyway, since he was ‘killed’ by April initially…

The happiest I ever came out of a movie in years.

I was bouncing around for the rest of the day because of that movie.

It's pretty amazing how good this movie was. I went in expecting it to be a somewhat pretty snorefest.

I was pleasently surprised!

Out of 34 million to make, and as of yesterday's BO take (check here, it's at 28 million. It will easy, I feel, thanks to strong word of mouth stay in the top 10, and overput the 34 million budget. Plus DVD sales in July (July 10th is the release date) and wha-la. You got yourself another TMNT sequel down the pipes. SO… the big question is, what is Kevin Monroe and Peter Laird have up their sleeve next time? AND… will WB and Weinstein Co. take more control of the property in the process since it did decently and yet, is not a huge huge hit..? (like 300 is, per se)

Personally, I almost do NOT want the Shredder to return just yet. If they are gonna do a ‘trilogy’ of new films, The Shredder is best saved for the finale. And really, they have set up some ideas for “City At War”….

Sadly, they're already planning to resurrect Shredder yet again, if what I've seen in interviews is true. Hopefully he won't be an alien this time…

Anyway, yes, this movie was great. I was afraid that it was going to be overally “kiddy'd” up, but thankfully the story had some real depth to it. Not that I would really call it a “deep” movie, but in the sense that it didn't feel dumbed down to be more accessible to a younger audience. I'm still not entirely happy with the designs of the humans, but it all came together nicely.

Also, was it just me, or did Leonardo outright kill those Mexican dudes at the start?

Shredder being an Utrom in the new series was a welcome suprise, though since the next movie would be in continuity with ALL of the films so far, it would be hard to establish him as an Utrom in that continuity, so I doubt they'll do it.

However, Shredder being a centuries old Utrom was freaking cool.

the very first comic of the turtles:

very ahead of its time (1984)

very ahead of its time (1984)

Actually, not really. None of the themes in the comics were particularly ahead of their time. The violence wasn't uncommon in the underground comic community and even some mainstream comics were starting to ignore the comics code at that point. Ninjas were pretty popular in other media and were starting to feature more often in Marvel comics. Mutation was hardly anything new for the time, either. Marvel was practically built on the concept. The original turtles were drawn as a joke and Eastman and Laird just ran with it. Hell, they didn't even research the source material very well. Yoshi's love interest doesn't even have a Japanese name.

I won't deny that I loved the comics as a kid and still do. Despite the fact that it started out as a parody of popular comic themes, they still managed to create an overall more down-to-Earth story than many of the comics they parodied. While thematically the comics didn't really bring anything new to the table, TMNT was groundbreaking in its popularity. It wasn't common for independent comics to gain that kind of recognition back in the 80's.

I started getting into the comics around the time the first TV series aired. I've never liked the original TV series because of how commercial and immature it seemed in comparison. They just felt it was necessary to color code the turtles, add stupid catch phrases which didn't even make sense for New York City, throw in retarded villains, and an obsession with pizza. The first movie really tried hard to get back to the spirit of the original comics. I just wish they hadnt felt the need to appeal to the younger audiences who had grown accustomed to the TV representations. After that they just kind of gave up and got silly again.

How is Shredder being anything other than a mortal human, supposed to be cool? It's stupid.
