I never watched the entire movie. I tried to watch it at 2 a.m. and fell asleep despite Michael Bay's loudest pyrotechnics. I woke up to see somebody shoving a cube into some robot's orifice. This was enough to get the general idea of the movie, because I've never really gone back to see the stuff I missed.

I agree with Lizard. Sure, the movie was WAY different than the cartoon. Well, of course it wasn't going to be anythihng alike, you all should know that. I'm a big Transformers fan myself and I loved the movie. The only thing I didn't like much was the lack of color on part of the robots, but that's just ‘cause I found it hard to figure out who was who when they weren’t vehicles. XD

Anyway, I'm real excited about the second movie.

The cartoon was stupid too. Transformers was only cool when you were a kid because it's like the sweetest toy ever. It's a car and a robot! That doesn't translate to a live action movie. Megan Fox is hot though.

being a geek myself, and not a tranformers nerd…i thought the movie was just all around cheesy and just lots of stuff exploding and robots fighting. change the names and the title and it would have been an entertaining summer movie.

what got under a lot of TFnerd's feathers -or quarterpanels- was how they were all lied to about the movie initially. it was stated that the movie would be based off generation 1 transformers, and there was even a flat-nosed red and silver 18wheeler as a teaser for the movie:

then they got the HUGE GMC contract…..
no one would expect a live action replica of the original cartoon, but it could be possible to make a decent movie with the characters and main plot presented in those cartoons. there was no reason to throw out that mythos altogether, and replace it with some magic hellraiser puzzle box thing.

So if Megatron comes back, How many robots died in the first movie? Wasn't it something like 1 on the Autobots side and a X number on the Desepticon side?
Those were my two cents.

What annoys me about Transformers is how it suddenly made Shia Lebouf appear in multiple action movies that I otherwise would like to watch. He should be in comedies.

Megan Fox can appear in as many action movies as she wants, though. She's very welcome.

Hated the first movie and I'm sure the second won't be any better with Michael Bay still at the helm. I'm sure it will still have the bad acting, juvenile toilet humor, horrendous writing full of plot holes, inconsistent/annoying characters and bad dialog, and Michael Bay's signature blurry, ambiguous special effects since the man refuses to hold a camera still. Michael Bay is much like a 13-year-old in his sense of what's “cool” and that is pretty much the audience he caters to.

i wouldn't say worked up over movies they don't like…..as more to the point of Hollywood needlessly fucking up beloved properties that makes people so vocally upset. these are characters and a mythos that generations have now grown up with, and a lot of people feel upset when Hollywood makes them mediocre at best.

i only saw this movie because my gang of friends wanted to go to the midnight premere and they all pitched in to buy me a ticket and snuck in a 40oz mickeys for me. i had no intentions on going and was very vocal about it….but i was told to keep my yapper shut (which is why they gave me booze to keep me satiated).

i think only one of my friends will be going to see the second one though.

i'm glad that people like it and it can keep life breathed into the Transformers franchise. that means they'll keep making more toys. and i can live with that. i can't stomach any of the animated series that have come out in the past 8 or so years, but as long as they keep making them, i can get awesome toys like 20th anniversary optimus prime!

Transformers had awesome special effects. That's about it.

I'll probably see the second one though, hoping it'll be better. Not gonna treat it like the plague or anything.

Stuff about the cartoons sucking

It's almost so bad it's good! Well… Except season 3 of generation 1. I haven't watched that shit in months ‘cause it’s so bad.
I still love the cartoons, though. Except for that particular season.

true….but at the time….generation 1 was THE SHIT! there was a tape deck that had tapes that turned into a panther, a vulture, and robots?!?! WTF!?! there had been nothing like it at the time. and while, YES, it was just a commercial to sell toys ultimately (the early 80s were a difficult time for american animation and cartoons as a whole. star wars had just kicked the door in to what action figures could doa few years earlier, and toy companies and marketing agencies were scrambling to figure out how to make money off the connection…but without big budget films), it had opened a door that created this “conflict” and these “characters” and their personalities that have spawned so many different incarnations for like 25 years.

so….yeah, those cartoons are silly now, 25 years later. hell, even the toys look pretty silly by today's standards. but they have transcended that status and become icons. when people hear optimus prime, they think red semi, noble leader of the autobots. when people hear bumblebee, they think VW beetle, naive young autobot. “megatron” evil mutha fuka that turns into a gun that shoots the living shit outta everything……well, i guess us old dudes do.

cartoons sucking part 2:

did any of you watch the “Masters of the Universe” animated series that was on cartoon network a few years back? it was an attempt at making a serial out of the series' storyline. it was killed by the toyline's failure (poor marketing), but it was still noteworthy, nonetheless.

THAT is how they should have handled the transformers. they didn't change the characters' personalities. they didn't “recreate the mythos” by making up some “allspark” (because needing to create fuel from energy sources and convert it into useable fuel for alien spacecraft that is transported in glowing cubes is a lot sillier than a giant box that can magically shrink and created all transformer life) or anything. the writers just filled in a lot of the gaping plot holes from the 80s series and made it all make sense in a “hey, this is still a cartoon” way that felt right and worked.

man, that looks hella awesome.

the first movie was fun. it was good it you took out megan fox. it was GREAT if you took out megan fox AND shia ledouche.

hopefully they downplay the human element and just let the robots do the talking (and fighting….and transforming…)

I never watched any of the cartoons, and I will see this movie like I saw the last just because I like the models.
Seriously, the complexity hurts my brain and gives me eyegasms.

I just hope there's more Transformer action in this one, because some of them having only one line in the last one was lame on a universal standard.
