It's unclear wether this is real or not, either way I find it quite impressive.

Ha! I wonder if it really is real? It'd be piss-easy to fake all that, if that was what you wanted to do… Although why anyone would fake it is unclear.

Yeah, that looks good! I like the idea of some crafty bugger sneaking some camera footage inside ILM :D
-or just a test screening or whatever… It's still sneaky and fun :)

Actually, the idea that it's made to look as if it's on film stock is a little sus… ILM is all into digital these days and all that footage would be digital, why go the extra step and put it on film just for a test screening?
-but then film is harder to steal and maybe wherever it was screened when it was videoed required it to be shown on film…
Ah well, if it is or not doesn't matter. A transformers movie would be interesting.

I would have to say it's fake. For test footage it's WAY too clean and the CG is way too finished. Plus the style and speed is exactly like one of those amateur transformers CGs you find all over the internet.

many more than several but some common ones that can be used to do the modelling include 3D Studio Max, Pro-Engineer Wildfire (My particular favourite) and SolidWorks 2005. While they all render fairly well professionals tend to export to other programs like Alias for the final product.

I have Cinema 4D at home because a magazine was giving an old version away but I have yet to take the time to learn it.

Well, for Hollywood production, the big two are 3D Studio Max and Maya for studios that don't produce their own software. Unfortunately, it looks like that may become the big one soon since I think the company that owns Max recently bought out Alias Wavefront, so Maya might be scrapped. I use max mostly. The newest version has some really nice additions (like fur and hair), but overall, the program still seems a bit flakey for something on it's 8th version.

Despite the stupendously high price tag, though, a lot of amateurs manage to get their hands on Max anyway (file size is pretty small, so it doesn't take much to pirate it) and use it for all sorts of little projects.

I personally always liked Soundwave, but he's a little “retro-looking” now.

Maybe they can make him into an MP3 player? :P

It will inevitably not be as cool as we remember the cartoon. (Nothing Transformers has ever really lived up to G1)

Technically G1 doesn't even measure up to how people remember it. We like to have fond memories of things from our childhood. Try watching them again, though, and their flaws can be quite overwhelming. Some of the series since G1 have actually had better, more thought out, storylines and animation.

I dunno… I tihnk part fo the appeal was the simple stories… I've seen a few of the newer shows and I was totally lost… almost TOO muchstory/plot to be entertaining. Plus, who the crap wants to see a robot/person change into a robot/ape?? Cars and planes and tanks and all that were much cooler.

You are right about the flaws, though… It always bugged me how Soundwave could fit in someones pocket, then transform and be one of the biggest robots… Or in one eppesode, one of the Autobots parachuted out of a shipwith a metal parachute… still lots of fun, though!

I was thinking a bit more of technical flaws, like painting characters the wrong colors or just awkward drawing. Plus, while some episodes worked well with simple one shot stories, there were more episodes where the stories seemed really lame, especially once you got past season one. There was one in particular that stuck in my mind where the Decepticons dismantle Optimus Prime. They reassemble his body as an alligator and put it in the New York sewers and place his arm and gun on the top of the Empire State Building where it is able to single handedly stop the rest of the Autobots. The story was so incredibly stupid it made me lose some faith in the old cartoons. There were also many episodes in season two where they farmed out the writing to less reputable people and it really shows.

If there isnt a DAMN good explaination for transformers being on mars alot of people who grew up on transformers are going to be crushed.
Of course you will. All intelligent beings dream. Nobody knows why.

Also, tell random people they are awsome! it helps!

The trailer for the Transformers movie is now online at http://www.transformersmovie.com. Can't really make out if that's Megatron or who that knocks out the Mars probe. Since all Transformers base their vehicle modes on the the first ones their idento-computers scan, then that means that a few will probably come to Earth as Mars robot probes.

That's kind of much bigger news since this thread is just about the test footage. I think it makes more sense to have its own thread.
It would make more sense, if people weren't talking about the exact same thing in this thread.

Anyway, title changed.
