Vector Graphics editors?

Ok, So my comics (all of them) use Vector graphics, simply because its easier that way, I currently use Microsoft Expression: code named acrylic, but in december it becomes a comercial product.

So I was wondering if any of you know of any good, preferably free vector graphics editors? either on par with or better than Acrylic.

Welll flash is what imidiatley comes to mind, but is it actually better than anything else for vectors? I need to do lots of twiddling about with gradients and path nodes/handles. I found a program by the name of InkScape that appears prommising.
