Hitler's Wacky Future Predictions. Redneck Space Aliens Terrorize Trailer Park. Farmer Kills 120 lb Grasshopper. After almost thirty years, my excuse to go to the supermarket even when my fridge was full is being cancelled: http://www.miamiherald.com/103/story/181281.html

For me, it's like a death in the family. I've been hooked on this paper for years. My best friend from high school actually wallpapered his entire bedroom with pages of it. My cubicle at my old job (before I left the U.S.) was plastered with clippings from it. It partially inspired the plot for “So I Married an Axe Murderer”. And it was selling well, according to the senior editors. But the parent company is shutting it down. They're even discontinuing the website. They've turned down other companies' offers to buy WWN. The announcement itself was very abrupt. It's a turn of events as mysterious and nonsensical as any of the paper's articles. And as mysterious and nonsensical as the three-decade success story of such a weird, esoteric publication.

It had amazing comics, too, drawn by a surprising amount of big name artists. Any fellow readers out there?

Damn.

I loved to read the Weekly World News when waiting in line at the market. The magazine always stood out against the “WILL CELEBRITY X MARRY CELEBRITY Y?” crap on the stand and it's huge bold black and white covers, font, and pictures could be spotted from across the market. The magazine, always an entertaining read.

It's a shame to see such a magazine go, it's slot to be replaced by celebrity magazines that have that whore with the big lips and Paris Hilton, some soap opera magazine that details what happened on Days of Our Lives (it's never Passions, is it?) or that small Disney magazine and possibly some Milky Way's and bottles of nice refrigerated Coke.

I am weeping internally, believe me.
What a bizarre thing to happen… WWN was one of those things that I just assumed would, you know, always be there. I never imagined that it would cease to exist.

I always read the WWN. But I never bought one, I just read it while I waited in line.

Same here.

I have to say I'm having trouble imagining going to the grocery store, being stuck in line, and not having a copy of WWN immediately to my left that I can pick up and flip through for a chuckle.
Also, some of their photo edits were amazing.

WWN really confused me. I never could figure out if it was just a publication full of jokes like a mock-newspaper, or if it really was fooling the most gullible people. Still, it made that wait in line a lot more fun.

Damn, that really bugs me. I used to get a kick out of looking at some of the headlines and pictures while standing in line.

Now where will we go to hear about Bat Boy saving the world from an alien invasion?!
Karen's Edge- The beginning of the wildest road trip ever!!
How Unfortunate- Coming back in mid-July!

That is so disappointing.

Charlie Mackenzie: Hey Mom, I find it interesting that you refer to the Weekly World News as, “The paper.” The paper contains facts.

May Mackenzie: This paper contains facts. And this paper has the eighth highest circulation in the whole wide world. Right? Plenty of facts. “Pregnant man gives birth.” That's a fact.

I have to admit, I've bought like three in my life and I think they are still floatin' around here some place; but they sure were entertaining at the check-out line.

You know what would be really funny? If their next issue of WWN said it was cancelled. No one would believe them until they notice they're gone for real…

It sounded funny in my head.
