What commercials annoy the crap out of you?

Special K:
Teen Daughter holds up an old pair of cute embroidered jeans. “You used to fit in these?” she ignorantly asks Mom. Mom looks hurt and determined.

Scenes of the daughter, wearing cute embroidered jeans, sashaying to and fro with boyfriends while Mom shovels Special K into her mouth – presumably for the recommended six weeks.

Mom takes back the 30 year old jeans and skips out the door thinking she is… what, a teenager again?

Sorry, but a teenage girl wearing vinage embroidered jeans may look cute because it looks retro on her. A woman over 30 trying to pull off the look just seems pathetic, because she never bought any grown up clothes.

What about you? What commercial annoys the ever-loving crap out of you?

If you have the vid, please link to it so that we can all suffer together. ;)

You could say that the kid was just trying to look like the mum, which is a little strange in a way too… How the fu*K did those jeans last that long anyway???

All adds are annoying, that's why I quit watching TV… That and the reality shows. :(
When I did watch I'd say the car adds were some of the worst: BUY NOW! GREAT BARGINS! WE'RE CRAZY HERE DOWN AT SHITTY CRAP CAR CITY! TAKE A RIDE TODAY! FREE AIR-CON! 2000Km WARRANTY! DRIVE AWAY NO MORE TO PAY!

…But maybe the king of all crap adds was Tony Robbins and his stupid fake self help… I want someone to kill that big faced dude. Come on, he's got a MASSIVE head, that'd be an easy target. Watch one of his vids to build up your self confidence so you can aim better. Go on, you owe it to yourself to make the change!

Those commercials that always go 1-800-blahblah twice, something 18 years or older near the end.
Christ. They always look like they're never going to end.

Even the new ones where they make fun of themselves are obnoxious.

To me, it will always be the barely sensical Old Navy commercials; particularly the ones with that ugly old dog.

I hate the Mac vs. PC ads. It's bad enough they've dressed each guy to make false implications about their respective computers, but the Mac guy just keeps spouting half-truths and neglecting the Mac's faults. Plus the background music is irritating.

PC: “Hi, I'm a PC.”
Mac: “And I'm a Mac.”
PC: “I'm a frumpy stiff-looking guy that implies that PCs are lame and awkward.”
Mac: “And I pretend there's nothing wrong with Apple products by distracting people with the PC's faults.”

I'm going to agree with Ozone here–commercials themselves are annoying, as are reality TV shows. But you know what is worse?

Commercials about reality TV shows!

Ah! Those… They're all over the net too! Those adds deserve their own thread!
One thing in their favour though…:
They show that the PC guy doesn't care what people think about the way he looks; he makes his own style. Whereas the MAC guy is just a hipster wannabe that gets his “style” out of a magazine. So very true :)
Which of the two would you rather be friends with? I'd go with Mr PC, he looks more friendly and genuine, happy with himself. Mr Mac looks like he tries too hard, a bit emo and insecure. lol!

Arrrrgh! Evil! That's even worse than reality TV about commercials!

I think the ABSOLUTE worse (and I'm talking America, I don't know if other countries are as bombarded by them) are the drug ads.

Drug ads have got to be the most misleading, disingenuous, fear mongering, pieces of crap out there. Cigarette ads in the ‘50s were more genuine. Drug ads are the cigarette ads for this generation.

I love how they all say, “tell your doctor if you have high blood pressure, heart problems, or (etc, etc) because _______ may not be right for you. ”
Wouldn’t your doctor KNOW what ailments you have? WTF? Why would you have to tell the Doctor anything? Shouldn't the DOCTOR be suggesting what could work?

Here's a tip: If your doctor doesn't know your medical history, get a new doctor! Sheesh.

…When I last watched TV we didn't have any of those. I'm pretty sure they're not allowed to do it here, only simple over the counter stuff like Aspirin etc.

I agree, it's wrong. Sounds like a corrupt system to me (I don't mean that literally BTW, just in terms of working incorrectly).

A lot of those drug commercials are aimed at the elderly. Quite often these are people switching over from other health plans or moving around a lot, so they may be switching doctors frequently, making it harder for them to have a regular doctor with that information on file.

Which of the two would you rather be friends with?

I have a friend who looks and acts just like the PC guy. I always have a blast when I hang out with him. On the other hand, I've had roommates and classmates like the Mac guy who I just wanted to take a baseball bat to.

I don't like the caveman commercials… the ones that are for geico I think? “it's so easy, a caveman can do it!” and then cavemen get offended. hilarious. …not!!!

omg though my favorite commercial is the one where there's this lady and she goes, “after douching… refresh!”
sometimes my friends and I say that to each other. we're weird, though.

one that perplexes me is the one for sears air conditioning where the wife goes, “when are we gonna get AC?” and the guy's like “I'll call later” and the wife says, “you'll call now.” and then the husband goes “I'll call now.” it's like some lame jedi mind trick or something.

ooh and I hate the one where it's talking about using a computer program to do your taxes as opposed to hiring people… and there's this bitchy wife complaining to her husband and making him talk to the computer program's box…

and how about the girls gone wild one where they're in zero-gravity? it's like, have we become so desensitized that girls gone wild is no longer interesting? you need zero-gravity to get people to buy your damn videos?

OOH BUT..! the hot pockets commercial where he's like, “new hot pockets! deli style!” according to a friend of mine, the guy who does Miroku's voice from Inu Yasha is the narrator of that commercial!!! wow!!

And how about the operatic-singing rabbit commercial for skittles? One time someone told me I sing like that. It makes me very proud/sickened.

Any of those Viagra/Cialis commercials. Or one of those genital herpes commercials with people in relaxing social situations relaxing at ease that they wont have an outbreak.

But a commercial I can point out specifically?
My most hated one that they still show for some reason is one with a guy sitting in a chair bragging about his credit score and if you know your credit score and how you should make it better and can get a free credit report. I hate that guy. He makes me angry. Possibly because he comes off as kinda snooty and obnoxious.

Oh and you asked to share the vid if possible.. Sadly, I found it…

I also hate all Vonage commercials… Mostly because I hate that song, but also because they are usually pretty stupid.

Domino's and Pizza Hut are both getting really annoying now. Domino's “anithing goes” ads are particularly grating.

Has anyone else noticed that the new Wendy's jingle (a repeated whistled tune) sounds an awful like the McDonalds “Im lovin' it” musical jingle?

and the repetition of it in the Wendy's commercial is unbearable when you recognize it.

I just find those Mac ads funny (when you ignore the fact they're representing who they are), although in my opinion, the UK version was better than US. But that's mainly because America doesn't have Mitchell and Webb. Shame on them.

What I really hate is American imported commercials dubbed with British voices. It makes it feel so fake. Blargh.

Sony's game commercials that have nothing to do with the game itself.

Out here there is a radio ad for Sunsetter retractable awnings. It features this guy talking about the awnings and his really annoying wife who keeps whining to him to tell people about the discount. It probably wouldn't be as irritating if they didn't play it at every commercial break on the station I listen to. It really makes me feel sorry for this Harry guy who has to life with her.

Sony's game commercials that have nothing to do with the game itself.

Kind of like Microsoft's game commercials which don't show any game footage? Or Nintendo's which show people jumping around like idiots in their living rooms (as if you're really going to need to dive when playing metroid)? Most videogame ads on TV are pretty pointless and don't give me any incentive to buy games. It's all just a mixture of half truths and CG cutscenes.

Every commercial in England is horrible, EXCEPT the Stella Artois and Honda ads. We get the full length ones and they're always good. :) I adore the Hate Something, Change Something song (which America probably never got because no cars have diesel engines there, which is silly).

The worst are usually the TV show bumpers, each show will have a sponser like a mobile phone company. They have to be clever in the 5 seconds between swtiching to and back from commercials. Currently the most annoying ones are the “american guy” who does CSI and Law and Order on 5. He's not even really American, just a guy trying to sound american. Look at me, I'm wearing TROUSERS la la!

I don't know about the commercials (although I've seen the commercials in one of my classes), but we definitely do have cars with diesel engines.

They don't play them on air anymore since the Christmas season is over but I absolutely hated those West 49 commercials.

Everytime I saw it, I was filled with disgust. It's as if they're encouraging kids to throw temper tantrums just because people didn't get them exactly what they wanted. I just wanted to reach through the television set and smack some sense into each kid's head.

Edit: I hate that commercial so much that everytime I pass by West 49 at the mall, I remember that commercial and can't walk pass it fast enough. Clearly I'm not their target audience. :S

I've always hated lunchables commercials for that same reason. They encourage kids to bitch about whatever's in their sack lunch.

I guess I'll make a list:

- Those Head-On commercials… Apply directly to new ad agency, jerks.
- Taco Bell commercials have been pretty weak and lame for a long time now.
- Any radio ad that includes police sirens.
- Jewely commercials that imply that giving diamonds is the only way your wife will know you love her.

Here's one: last year Doritos started using a commercial of recycled footage from the American Godzilla film. I guess it doesn't annoy me, in and of itself, but I'm just baffled as to why they're rehashing footage from an eight year old movie that everyone hated. It's not old enough to be retro, and there's no recent Godzilla craze for it to “piggyback” on. So what's the freakin' point?

I would agree, but I also saw it on a birth control ad, a heartburn ad, and an ani-depressant ad. Besides, everything is on a central database now that the AMA shares, from what I hear. If the doctor has a computer and your social security number, then he has your medical history.

It's just a slimy way of doing things is all.

Did you know that every time you check your cedit score, it counts against your credit score? You can make arguments that it doesn't, but I have talked to Financial Service Reps that handle that sort of thing at my job. It's actually true.

Problem with marketers these days is they try to put anything out that will make you remember their commercial. All of this typing out of commercials that you hate just shows how much they've managed to make you remember their specific product by making the delivery obnoxious.
