I just switched my music mood to “happy music”, because I was tired of listening to Evanescence and AFI and “woe is me I should cut myself” shit. ….I discovered an unsigned artist on iTunes.

Eric Hutchinson, “Sounds Like This”

It's what would happen if Stevie Wonder and Jason Mraz had a baby.

None Shall Pass - Aesop Rock

Oh man, I just can't get enough of Aesop Rock right now. His new album, None Shall Pass, is just pure win. There's nothing to not like about it! The cover art is by Jeremy Fish, a lot of the songs are produced by Blockhead, and Aesop Rock continues to dominate. I mean, I usually don't like rap… But Aesop Rock doesn't rap about smacking women or… puttin' wheels on your car. Aesop Rock has found his happy little niche under the alternative or, “underground” label of hip hop. The lyrics don't make sense at first listen, and that's what makes them so great.

You should listen to more stuff of the Def Jux label. Or maybe you have, there is this promo CD that you can download for free on the Adult Swim website.

And ey, Dirk man, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is AWESOME :) Especially THAT song!

I'm listening to the Donnie Darko score. Makes me feel weird, but it's like kind of INCREDIBLY great!

I actually have been getting into the Definitive Jux label as of late. Some of my fav artists from the label so far are El-P, Aesop Rock, Del that Funky Homosapien, Mr. Lif, RJD2 and MURS (those last two artists aren't exactly members of Def Jux anymore, but I've still been following them). The collaborations these guys have done are also pretty grade-A.

But I didn't know I could download a promo CD of theirs off Adult Swim… thanks for pointing me towards that man. :)

And since I'm in the mood…

Phantom - Mr. Lif featuring El-P

This song be TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGGHT!

I picked up Aesop Rock's None Shall Pass the other day as well, and I love it. I haven't heard anything by Aesop Rock that I haven't liked, though, so I'm not surprised, just pleased.

Right now, though, I've got 7L & Esoteric's Moment of Rarities playing. So much good stuff. There's even a track with some Star Wars music sampled into the beat (“Lurkers at the Threshold” featuring Truth Elemental).

Well did you guys already hear some of the new RJD2 album? :) Seems to get a lot of bad reviews, tough the song ‘Beyond the Beyond’ was great, and I also liked Have Mercy. These are the only two songs I've heard of it, so I wonder what the rest is like.

I'm Shipping Up to Boston - Dropkick Murphy's

The Across the Universe soundtrack

(I've also been listening to a lot of Christmas music lately – especially Trans-Siberian Orchestra – but I don't think you could really call that “jamming”. :P)

Just now it was “I don't need anything but you” from the soundtrack to Annie, but just then that finished and “When the Levee Breaks” by Led Zeppelin came on.

Blissful :)
