When Winter sucks...

Don't get me wrong. I like the winter. I like all the pretty landscapes when it snows and having snowball fights with my friends and making snowmen and having hot cocoa with loved ones… but there are times when Winter can really really suck.

Yesterday it was around 60 degrees and raining. During the night, it dropped to about 10 degrees and we're supposed to get about 6-8 inches of snow tonight.

This morning, when I was running outside to my car, I tried getting in my car and… the doors had frozen shut. Completely and totally. For the life of me I could not get them open. I was afriad I'd break the handle off of the car or something. I even tried getting into my car through the trunk! (The trunk had frozen closed too, though.) I ended up calling one of my friends to give me a ride to school today, but it was still a little frustrating.

Ah well, it made for a pretty funny story to tell everyone, though.

It doesn't snow in California. Our winter doesn't really suck that badly.

What is this winter you speak of? lol..

Actually, over Thanksgiving, it got downright chilly down here near Miami. It was probably the low 40s with a gusty wind. For non-snow bird types such as myself, that can make me shiver, but you see Canadians vacationing here out in the pools or on the beach in skimpy bathing suits in that weather.

Even on a day where its 85(like yesterday), I wont get in my pool because the water, almost like it knows its winter, is freezing cold.

It was 75 degrees out today, but tonight is expected to drop down to 40 and we're getting cold, 50 mph winds tomorrow.

What's scary is it's expected to fluctuate between 10 and 70 degrees this winter in our area. It's being described as “mild”. I describe it as “freaky”.

The only thing I don't like about snow is driving in it - we're expecting 3-10 inches tomorrow. I hope I don't have to deal with it on the roads.

Unfortunetely, whenever the big storms hit is whenever I have to be somewhere. I mean, geez, a few months after I got my driver's license, the worst snowstorm of the year hit and I had to get to a school twenty miles away to take an exam! I was so freaked out - I learned a few things about driving in the snow really quick, though.

You guys and your silly fahrenheit temperatures, I have no idea what you're saying is cold and what you're saying is hot. Wellington pisses me off like that. The general temperature here is somewhere between 10 - 14 degrees, but it's never snowed. It's like you stay here and you think “gee, the weathers pretty crap all year ‘round, it must be building up to something spectacular” but then it’s just like “HAHA JUST KIDDING GUYS I JUST FELT LIKE RAINING ALL YEAR LMAOLOLZ.”

I'm actually typing this in the morning, during a blizzard, when there should be school.
BUT THERE'S NOT! Ah… one of the best things about snow… snow days!

This is actually the first snow day I can remember having since I was in…. uh… maybe third grade. That was… 8 or 9 years ago now. Maybe even longer. My school is always the last school in the region to close. Ah well, I'm not complaining now!

Well… I do have to go shovel the driveway since our snowblower is broken. Go figure.

California snows, but only in the mountains, really. That's kind of convenient… it's a short drive to a winter wonderland, but you can leave it whenever you want.

On the other hand it gets fairly cold here… i mean, lately it's been around 38F or 3.5C… while it's not an arctic tundra, it's a bit of a pain since I don't really have any freaking winter clothes :) I have a few light sweaters and such, but I guess I never really see a need to prepare for the cold :)

Just like rain… I never find that I own an umbrella when I need one.

God forbid it snow out of the mountains here… nobody would know what to do ;)

That's the same with me. The only time I've ever seen snow in my life was when I was a little kid, all the way across the other side of the country (about 3000 km), on mountains outside of Melbourne. Magical ^_^

We're getting into summer now, but thankfully it's been a nice, slow, cool start for us in Perth
