*Imperium Thought for the Day*

Death be thy compass.
Carry the Emperor´s will as your torch, with it destroy the shadows.
Blessed is the mind too small for doubt.
To admit defeat is to blaspheme against the Emperor.
Prayer cleanses the soul, but pain cleanses the body.
There is only the Emperor, and he is our shield and protector.
A small mind is easily filled with faith.
Praise be, Emperor, Lord.
For those who seek perfection there can be no rest this side of the grave.
The difference between heresy and treachery is ignorance.
Thought begets Heresy; Heresy begets Retribution.
Knowledge is power, guard it well.
A small mind is a tidy mind.
An open mind is like a fortress with its gate unbarred and unguarded.
Better crippled in body than corrupt in mind.
Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
If a job´s worth doing it´s worth dying for.
Innocence proves nothing.
Only the awkward question; only the foolish ask twice.
Pain is an illusion of the senses, despair an illusion of the mind.
Success is commemorated; Failure merely remembered.
The wise man learns from the deaths of others.
Zeal is its own excuse.
Victory needs no explanation, defeat allows none.
Know the mutant; kill the mutant.
Death is the servant of the righteous.
My armour is contempt.
Ignorance is a virtue.
A wise man does not fear, a man afraid does not think.
Even a man who has nothing can still offer his life.
Only in death does duty end.
Excuses are the refuge of the weak.
Kill, kill, kill.
Faith is your shield.
All souls cry out for salvation.
Without Him there is nothing.
Damnation is eternal.
Cease and Repent.
Submit to His will.
Purity of purpose.
Curse now the death in vain.
His will be done.
No man died in His service that died in vain.
To withdraw in disgust is not apathy.
There is nothing to fear but failure.
Mercy is a sign of weakness.
A mind without purpose will wander in dark places.
Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.
Truth is subjective.
Faith without deeds is worthless.
There is no such thing as innocence, only degrees of guilt.
Beginning reform is beginning revolution.
Educate men without faith and you but make them clever devils.
Forgiveness is a sign of weakness.
Hard work conquers everything.
Perseverance and silence are the highest virtues.
Success is measured in blood; yours or your enemy´s.
Leniency is a sign of weakness.
Hatred is the Emperor´s greatest gift to humanity.
Magnanimity is a sign of weakness.
Thou shalt not.
The man who has nothing can still have faith.
Compassion is a sign of weakness.
Be strong in your ignorance.
Doubt is a sign of weakness.
A broad mind lacks focus.
Tolerance is a sign of weakness.
A narrow view sees better.
Despair is a sign of weakness.
The blood of martyrs is the seed of the Imperium.
Burn the heretic.
Kill the mutant.
Purge the unclean.
Examine your thoughts.
Serve the Emperor today, tomorrow you may be dead.
Obey your orders.
It is better to die for the Emperor than to live for yourself.
To question is to doubt.
The truly wise are always afraid.
Fear denies faith.
Never forget, never forgive.
Only the Emperor is all.
The Emperor knows, the Emperor is watching.
Life is a prison, death a release.
A suspicious mind is a healthy mind.
Heresy grows from idleness.
Life is the Emperor´s currency, spend it well.
That was then, this is now.
Foolish are those who fear nothing, yet claim to know everything.
Brave are they who know everything yet fear nothing.
Ruthlessness is the kindness of the wise.
It is better for a man to be afraid than happy.
Happiness is a delusion of the weak.
True happiness stems only from duty.
To serve Him is to worship Him.
The loyal slave learns to love the lash.
Work earns Salvation.
Work is Prayer.
He who keeps silent consents.
Truth begets hatred.
Cowards die in shame.

My country is certainly important to me… most especially everything that stands for it. However…that doesn't mean that I would jump at the chance to “defend” my country in any war.

Because after all, not every “enemy” is there to kill off America, to kill off the bill of rights of our forefathers, to kill off our freedom unlike what the obviously biased media and the government would like you to believe.
After all, most of our “enemies” is actually on another contient. They're usually in third world poor countries with no way of actually killing our families (unless our family memebers actually went over in the war to go fight those “enemies”), and or destorying any of America personally. Most of the “enemy” actually have no bomber planes, no tanks or any of the techology to actually cross over to America to do any damage to us personally. They just have a lot of personal issues of their own to even care about America…. they only care when America chooses to butt into their issues and tries to make everything “better”.

And yes, you're proably gonna bring up omasa bin laden and how he had no techology of his own and stll managed to come to america to do some damage.. But that's my second point that I'm about to make. this whole war started off with us looking for that rat bastard. but now the focus competely changed, and now it's not even about him anymore. now our troops are off fighting “terrorism” in a whole different country competely while osama bin laden is off somewhere laughing at us and getting off scott free.
This war has changed it focus and goals way too often that I'm not even sure what the actual goal and cause of war is anymore.

So how can I be so certain that I'm doing the right thing, that I'm doing this for an noble cause when the war keeps on shifting and changing?

So my answer is No, I would not… as much as I love my country.

I pretty sure he ment a army that could in fact do that. Not if terrorists invaded…because thats not going to happen.

I would help out… like, I might lobby and stuff for better equipment for soldiers, and I think if you're helping to save soldiers' lives, it's a method of “defending your country”. Personally it's a goal of mine to go through life without intentionally killing anyone (yeah, that makes me sound like a creeper… heh…) and if I were in the military not killing people, I'd be a bit of a waste of space, no?

so I guess I wouldn't defend my country. Especially since I disagree with almost everything my country stands for politically right now. Especially border control issues, the war in Iraq, our current educational system, censorship, and our malfunctioning (euphemistically speaking) healthcare system.

I have and would again.

Disabled War Veteran here. Served as a Scout (Armored Reconaissance Specialist - 19D) from 1998 to 2004… with 2 overseas tours.

I don't blame you guys for being unwilling to fight in THIS war though. The call to defend your country (I'm referring to America, in this case) is a good and just calling. Unfortunately, this war doesn't seem very just and if I were 17/18 and deciding what to do with my life, it may not include going off to Iraq. I'm finding it tough to put myself back in my 18-year-old mindset. That version of me is someone long forgotten. I don't think he'd enlist though. The current 26 year old version of me might, however. Tough to say.

I guess I'm glad I can fall back on my disability and say “… and I don't have to make that choice” because it's tough to say whether this war is actually “defending your country” - the topic of this thread.

Bless you guys who have served… in any country. It takes a special person to join the military.

If the spirit of this thread is: would I fight for or to defend something I believe in?… the answer is, and has been, yes.
If the spirit of this thread is: would I fight because someone told me to?… then the answer is an emphatic NO.

i would defend my cuntry to an extent… i DO NOT see the point in bloodshed for bloodsheds sake (unless its virtual :) ) but i will kill or at least fight any one who threatins the way i live on any scale. (im joining the army) but like i said i dont like needless bloodshed and wont needlessly kill people just to keep my cuntry alive. no crime is worth death (yes i also uppose the death penalty…)

I'd defend it but I have no other use for joining the army otherwise because I can probably afford college when it's time.
i will also like to know you the more
