Despite how much the Clone Wars seemed to be over from Episode III, Lucas is pulling out way more for the franchise. There's an all-CGI movie hitting theatres this summer, plus a brand new 100-episode TV series playing on Cartoon Network this fall. For more on the new movie, see http://www.starwars.com/video/view/000478.html

Wasn't this all covered in that CN cartoon?? What is this then, a rewrite of that cartoon's storyline, or a supplement?

Too many key events happened in the cartoon to be ignored in this new CGI movie, so I'm guessing this is a rewrite of the cartoon. Greeaaat… rewrite your own canon whydoncha? Lucas must've gotten jealous when he saw DC and Marvel stoop lower than him.

He milks that franchise like the owner of a prize bull collecting all the seamen he can sell… lol!

Well I used to like the old animated series… “droids” I think it was called…? And at least one of those Ewok spin-off films was pretty good.

Why watch stinky ol' hand drawn 2-d animation when you can watch a whole movie in the kinda cg graphics you get from videogame cutscenes?

Um, not to be defending this roundhouse kick on the dead horse that is the Star Wars franchise, but some people (ME!) actually prefer hand drawn 2D animation to cg graphics.

Well… huh. Er… well, it looks nice, but, uh… a has been duly noted, haven't the Clone Wars been covered already? I mean, if they're gonna go the CG route anyway, why not do something they couldn't otherwise do by just calling up the actors again and dropping another couple million in their laps to do cartwheels in front of green screens? I dunno, I guess I'm just thrown off because not only have the Clone Wars been done, but they've been done excellently. I'd rather watch Tartakovsky's Clone Wars shorts than the Revenge of the Sith.

Can I ask a question? Why is Lucas making this tired piece of tripe and not doing an actual, original Star Wars movie about something we've never seen before? On film at least. What about a movie based on the game Jedi Knight? Would anyone watch that? I know I would, instead of another yawner about the Clone Wars.

Wait, don't tell me… is it because Lucas didn't have direct control over the Clone Wars cartoon shorts? I mean, it was too good, so that must mean that he didn't do it, right? So now he wishes to rectify that, by doing a CGI version in which his hand is more all over it?

That sounds about right, actually. I mean, Lucas has made huge changes to the original movies in their various re-released formats to better fit his “grand scheme”. I'm sure there are things about the Clone Wars shorts that he just wouldn't have done (like, no wacky hijinx? Who are the kids going to identify with if everyone is taking war seriously?). I dunno, though. Some part of me is hoping that the influence of the Clone Wars cartoon will up the quality of writing and overall “feel” for this film.

Really I could never really stand watching the Clone Wars too much other than their shorts. They were mostly just ridiculous action. The Star Wars stuff never had that great of a story anyways. I think Babylon 5 had some of the greatest sci-fi political stuff on the screen(well at least the first two seasons I still need to see the rest) I liked how BSG treats the military aspect(even though it's top gun).

New Star Wars films, games and TV shows are and will always be an inevitable fact of life.

How else could Lucas fund new Indy films, games and TV shows?

*headdesk* Man, this is what I get for posting late at night.

I'm still standing by the first part of my statement, though - this really is a roundhouse kick on the dead horse that is the Star Wars franchise. And if he's using the proceeds from Star Wars stuff to fund other things, why the heck isn't he making more Monkey Island games, or something? Or, you know, Grim Fandango.

Are you sure this is a movie? Everything I've seen from the “Introducing the Clone Wars” segment on that site to the imdb listing suggests this is a TV series and not a movie. In fact, they announced an all CG Clone Wars TV series way back when the Tartakovsky series ended.

Wait, don't tell me… is it because Lucas didn't have direct control over the Clone Wars cartoon shorts? I mean, it was too good, so that must mean that he didn't do it, right? So now he wishes to rectify that, by doing a CGI version in which his hand is more all over it?

Are you kidding me? Did you LISTEN to the dialog in the previous series? Lucas definitely had a hand in that. Lucas has a hand in every Star War project to some extent, usually from a design standpoint. It will be the same here, but what makes me somewhat excited about this despite the disappointments I got from the last three films is that he isn't scripting or directing this.

I don't have any real objection to CG Star Wars. In fact, I still think it would be a good idea to remake all six movies entirely in CG to bring back some level of continuity that may have been lost between the original and prequel trilogies. It could only be made better if Lucas took a back seat in the production and let other people pen and direct them.

Actually some of the Star Wars games are pretty cool, I still love the Dark Forces series.

Here's the thing Lucas is not that great of a writer or director. He did however had some really great ideas.

Just watched the trailer and I have to admit, I'm kinda anticipating this… it's a lot better than having to watch reruns of bland cartoons. Seriously, when's the last time I watched a show from start to end? We just don't seem to have time for this anymore…

Besides, I really don't mind people senselessly killing the heck out of each other- it's a nice change after watching shows where people mercilessly gossip about how their lives were once good and now it all turned into a mess. Same reason why I liked the Clone Wars animated ones- though they were still… how do you say it, slightly-not-very-well-pieced-together (Can't really put them into words)?

Not like I was around to any of the classics…

I think it might be because each one was only like, 7 mins long (10 if you add credits and intro). It would be hard to piece a story together like that (probably easier with 30 minute cartoons).

We are not the target audience anymore. We have aged out. A while back, I was the park with my 3 year old and watching a pack of pre teens boys tell and act out every major action scene of latest star wars movie. They were really into it.
I admire Lucas for milking his one hit wonder into a long term media franchise. As long as there are young teen boys who love the story, it will last forever, regardless of how crappy it seems to our adult brains.

Yes, but truly great creators can create a classic which works on multiple levels. For example, Alice In Wonderland.

Lucas is already rich and famous. That's a given. But his next aspiration should be to be remembered in posterity as a great author. He needs to wake up and realize that he'll be remembered as an idiot to 50% of his audience.
