Musical theatre, something you can take or leave. Most of us who like musicals have a few select favorites that are close to our hearts. Me? Why I'm glad you asked! Personally, I love ‘Avenue Q’, ‘7 Brides for 7 Brothers’, ‘Paint Your Wagon’, and ‘Tanz Der Vampire’.

What about you? What musicals do you like? (If any.)

Edit: also like Sweeney Todd and anything to do with Danny Kaye.

seven brides for seven brothers is a great one.

My favorite would probably have to be Pirates of Penzance. Ugh, so good. The Mikado (oh, mikado!) was really good too. And of course, little shop of horrors.

heh, I like Musical films… 7 brides, Paint your Wagon, I agree, they're both great!

What else… Dancer in the Dark, 8 Women, Vengo, Swing, those are four newish ones that're pretty cool. Only the first one's in English though, the others are in French and Spanish.
I like anything with Fred Astair in it and all the big popular ones I saw as a kid; Grease, Oliver, The Sound of Music, Xanadu, The Wiz.

I can't readily recall any others right now but I always liked musical numbers in TV shows and movies, like that great “bees do it” number in Tank Girl, or the “impromptu” musical sequences in the Drew Carey show and even the Simpsons! The Boosh is another great show for imaginative musical pieces.

I like a lot of stuff, I generally hate plays (because its rude to get up or to say stuff, and people get pissed and throw you out and yell, its not that bad at a movie, since ya know, I never shut up), so most of this list is based on the film version of stuff that used to be plays. I'm looking forward to seeing Hairspray, to take a classic John Waters film and turn it into a mainstream musical, that is going to be something to see for sure.

anyway, musicals -

Team America
Rocky Horror Picture Show
the producers
little shop of horrors
the new Phantom of the Opera
South Park's movie
The Wizard of Oz

I also tend to think that Rock Opera's are interesting. My favorites being Bat Out Of Hell and The Wall, good tunes are good tunes. Even with over the top flamboyance.

I've liked pretty much everything I've seen on stage.

Phantom of the Opera
Jeckyll and Hyde
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
Fiddler on the Roof
Man of La Mancha
The Secret Garden
Anything Goes

…I know there are more but none spring to mind right now. I really want to see Spamalot!

Films… Here are some off the top of my head… I love musicals.

Music Man
Annie* (the one with Carol Burnette and Tim Curry ;))
Seven Brides for Seven Brothers
Fiddler on the Roof
The Producers
Little Shop of Horrors
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum
Hello Dolly
Bedknobs and Broomsticks
Mary Poppins
Muppet Treasure Island (does that count? Again, Tim Curry is great)

* Probably my favorite – mostly because of those two actors.

Hair. It's about hippies and sadness.
or maybe even the new Reefer Madness.

I just saw a play about the start of Alcoholics Anonymous. Oh how I wish it were a musical.

Oh, my goodness:

Okay, first In high school, I was a “theatre chick” so, I made Ethan audition for the senior musical and he ended up with the lead…Therefore, The Music Man will always be a favorite. My favorite role that I have had was in: Into the Woods.

I'm also a fan of:
Phantom, Les Mis., Sweeney Todd, 7 Brides for 7 Brothers, A Little Night Music, Annie, My Fair Lady, Chicago, The Sound of Music, Annie Get Your Gun, Gypsy, The King and I…I could go on…Obviously, I'm a fan of the musical…

As for Movie Musicals; Singin' in the Rain, The Pirate Movie, Moulin Rouge, the Wizard of Oz, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, Little Shop of Horrors, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Grease AND Grease II okay, I'll go out on that…It's easy to see I'm also a fan of the movie musical… (Oh, pick a Disney—Little Mermaid, Lion King (which is also a fantasic musical on the stage.) Aladdin…Blah Blah Blah

Television musicals; Buffy the Vampire Slayer's: Once more with Feeling wins the mythical tonyemm I made up in my brain.

Wanna know something cool? My dad's roommate in college wrote the score to the musical version of Little Shop of Horrors. (Hee, I'm two degrees away from someone sorta famous!)

My favorite musicals are: Reefer Madness, Wicked, Avenue Q, the Buffy musical (don't care what anyone says, it was awesome!), Chicago, the Producers, Little Shop of Horrors…I could go on.

I was raised on musicals, I love them all, but the one that blows then all compleatly out of the water is Cannibal! the Musical. Dear lord, that was a funny movie. Probably my favorite movie period, if it came down to it.
Yes, I know that no one else has heard of it. I still love it. ^^
