Crossover project--anybody in?

Okay, I recently read the Crossover Wars (almost all of it–still can't read Zortic or a couple other pages, but that's how it goes sometimes) and got the itch to create a big crossover project as well.  I have an idea for what I could do, but I need people who also want in.
My thought is that I could create a superhero-centric project, but one that doesn't necessarily preclude other comics from participating.  The ultimate goal would be to stop a multiversal conqueror, one who I hope would be considered Kirby-esque.  The plot would have no overt ties to the Crossover Wars, in part because I had nothing to do with the Wars and want those who have the say to do whatever they want with the characters, but also just to make sure such a project can stand on its own.
Really, it comes down to who would be interested in being a part of a large crossover project at all.  The fact that I want to does not mean others do.
Hopefully, if enough people want to get involved, things can start rolling and working up to something fun and relatively soon (January at the earliest–I know it takes time to plan such a thing).

Well, hey, I hope it's not necroing the thread, but when it comes to crossover projects, I'm in full support of em. January of the next year, eh? I think I'll have a decent enough amount of plot by then if things turn out well.
Best of luck, hoping many people join ya!

ERasER, I would love anybody who is willing to be involved to be involved.  After all, I would love something big, and every person involved can halp shape the events in interesting ways.

So, after discussing this with Shastab, I'm gonna, later on, start building two teams for this crossover.
The writers will know which team is which, but the readers will NOT.
A loose idea for the general plot is beginning to form- we have the premise, now to see if we can pan it out.
Planning now for January might well be a great idea- give us plenty of time to recruit some great writers and artists.
XD hopefully I'm not overstepping, but I really am a fan of crossovers, and the story that's been forming in my head is one I'd love to tell.
Anyone have any ideas for how to share info? Skype? PQs?

What Escutcheon said (except I shorten my username to Shasta, not shastab, but I hadn't mentioned that).  Let's get some great people in on this.  Escutcheon's ideas have helped lift the concept to be able to even better incorporate non-superhero comics, as well, so that should be helpful to know.

D: Whoops! Sorry Shasta!
That said, yeah, even if you don't fit in the superhero/fantasy archetype, I'm sure we can find a way to work things out. I definitely want everyone involved to have a blast with this! If anyone has any idea for recruiting more, let us know!
That said, I'm wondering about the actual recruiting. Like I told Shasta, once I have a more detailed idea, I'll start another thread for the recruiting if we need. One thing we can all do is to advertise through the author notes sections of our comics. And if anyone is comfortable asking anyone they know with an adventure/fantasy/superhero comic, that'd be cool too!

Yeah, the barriers for entry are really this: if the comic's creator thinks it's feasible to be in the crossover, then they're in.  Otherwise, of course not.  In the Crossover Wars, so many different types of comics were involved, some even getting involved in roundabout ways, so as not to mess with the tone of the original (like when Scale from CameoComic went into the comic The Devil's Panties, it was a quick page in CameoComic, not followed up in the Devil's Panties, because the latter is more of a slice-of-life).

But the Crossover Wars had superhero, fantasy, science fiction, erotic, parodic, serious, and so on comics all coming together, and I think such a situation is what I would want to shoot for.  Obviously, I like to gear towards superhero, but that's my personal genre preference.  I would love to see many different comics I would have never thought to read getting involved.  After all, I don't want this to be just something for me–I want it to be a situation where people can follow threads that appeal most to them.

So I will say that my comic, Karabear Comics Unlimited, will be involved (I would assume that would be a given, of course), but also that my in-development project of Trans Dimensional Trans Superheroes will likely be involved (depending when I can get everything going on it).  I think I'm going to eventually start running a list in this thread of the comics who will be involved in some way (but I need to get more definites before I put some of them up).

Well, I'm still doing some thinking about how I want to involve Dueling Heroes with any crossover. I've been tossing a few ideas around with myself.
Option 1: Effex and/or Scareflare gets brought into the story, but we don't go to their home-verse. Instead, we only get hints about it from the characters- since it's intended that it's somewhat isolated and ‘behind’ in the superhero department.
Option 2: Option 1, but the events of the crossover push their way into DH-verse and the clashing mechanics make a heckuva headache.
Option 3: Rather than one or both of the heroes, involving a villain in the story, whose origins are only hinted at being from DH-verse.
Lemme know if any preference exists. XD I wanna do what I can to make the comic work!

Well, I can go back to the Crossover Wars on this one.  In the Mindmistress part of the Wars, the Evil Overlords do attack her on her turf, but not in any way that the people of her universe would know what's happening–in a pocket dimension Mindmistress designed and then later in the Arctic, when she lures them there.  Her universe is explicitly not one with known superheroes: Mindmistress is considered an urban legend at best, the other heroes were pretty much created by her with the same amount of secrecy and the villains likewise don't draw attention to their supervillain ways.

It wouldn't be hard to have a setup where the characters are never seen in their universe.  Thinking of the Crossoverlord: the Green Avenger is a main character despite the events not spilling into her universe, and the reader really never seeing it.  Stories involving such characters can allude to the universe without showing it (perhaps they were collected a la Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars?).

So, I've been working on the storyline ideas some and I was wondering- do we want to wait until CrossOverKill is done and see if that'll kick up volunteers? I mean, I'm okay either way, but whatever we can do would be awesome. Dunno, thoughts?

If we wait for Crossoverkill to end first we'll be waiting a very long time. Its been going for over a year now with no sigh of stopping any time soon.

Right then! Good point! So, let's see if we can't use the authors' notes of our comics to try to recruit more people- hopefully this'll come together fairly soon! :3

I think Crossoverkill is projected to end at the end of the year.  However, Stephen, Magellan's creator, put a spoiler in his current storyline of Magellan because he thought Crossoverkill would be done by the time he got to that point.  Sometimes things take longer than people think.

So I do have a rough idea of where to go with things: there will be a kickoff storyline in Trans Dimensional Trans Superheroes to introduce Shai'tan (and to start said comic).  From there, things will expand out on that front with invasions and alliances made.  Karabear Comics Unlimited will definitely get involved at this point, and possibly earlier (but considering there are Karabear characters in TDTS, it would be a little tricky to get things going for before that comic).  I also plan on running another comic concurrently, which will be a little more self-contained for quite a few pages before branching out.

I also thought of another thing to consider: a major annoyance with the Crossover Wars is the lack of a print version.  I understand the logistical nightmare that can come out of trying to compensate everyone whenever a book is sold, so I thought of a better alternative.  I would love if the end result of the crossover could be sold on IndyPlanet, with proceeds going to a worthy charity (I lean towards Hero Initiative, myself).  It would help a fun and exciting project to do some good, as well.

Of course, that last bit is only if every person involved agrees to such an arrangement.  Obviously, if even one person balks at the idea of their work in print, then a print version won't happen.  Of course, if a print version were to happen, then every character would have to be allowed to be there by their creators (and it would limit how “adult” contributing comics can get, since IndyPlanet doesn't allow for pornography).  I just love print versions over digital for comics (nothing beats actually cracking open a book–and print is an easier medium for sharing with family, at least for me).

NO OF COURSE NOT NAY NO NEVER NO MORE
Yeah, it's cool by me.
I understand how delays can happen. XD
So, I'm still debating WHO to use from Dueling Heroes- and I may just throw out teasers for some of the comics that, depending on schedule, I also make.
._. looking at how long Dueling Heroes' story has become, I'm really surprised because it was, to be honest, just meant in the beginning to be a prologue for another story. XD Now it's got a life of its very own.
Any suggestions?

Well, either one could bring their own situations to the table.  Effex is nice and clear-cut as a good guy, while the other guy (why do I forget his name?  He's the other main character!) could stand to learn some humility (but would he learn, that is the question).

Anyways, I am sening out invitatins to various venues.  Some, I wold never expect a response (like Marvel Comics–it's doubtful they'll even read the e-mail, and even if they go through the hassle of responding, I'd expect a “No”).  However, it has gotten at least one nibble from a bit bigger of a fish than I would normally be able to contact: Heroic Comics (home of Flare, the Champions, Sensational G Girl, the Liberty Girl, and the like) has gotten back to me, and I've been e-mailing about who would be a good character to use.  Since my only experience reading them is a copy of Champions #1 that I've had since I was little (from when the company was called Hero Comics), I don't know their characters well enough to make an informed decision.  Though it's been suggested either Liberty Girl or Sensational G Girl.  If anybody has any suggestions, please let me know (there have to be some fans of their comics or the Champions role playing game out there who can help).

Actually, a brilliantly wicked thought occured to me. I think I'll be playing both sides this go round. I'll be putting up an upcoming hero to DH as one of the major characters, but I'll also throw a sleeper agent on the side of our villain.

I'm thinking that there are three routes that I could go with one of the DH leads-
Effex- Pretty good team player, Effex can keep a cool head in situations that normally overwhelm most people- though whether this is through pragmatism or mere stubborn will is unsure. He's a friendly one, but at times may be naive to other people. An idealist at heart, will often stick to his guns, even if they get him in trouble. Overall, though, a people person with strong leadership qualities. He can, at times, be a stick in the mud when it comes to doing the right thing and trying to keep things ‘fair’, but if you're looking for someone to pull through, Effex is your man.
—-
Scareflare- Not as bad a team player as the first 25 pages of DH suggest, Scareflare will make it clear that he wants to be the biggest hero EVER. His pride will get in his way more than once, most likely, and he's likely to take on foes that either outrank or outnumber him. Will not let things go past him that he disagrees with. His cooperation is dubious, but his bombastic nature is never in question. If nothing else, huge entertainment value. Scareflare can occasionally get himself stuck by his own pride, as well as his lack of foresight. He still has a lot of growth to go, but he's a powerhouse- if you can get him to focus.
—-
Megi- Yes, the girl who cons Effex's alter ego into letting her stay at his place, Megi may very well be a team asset, due to her quick-on-the-fly thinking and pragmatism. She also is, by the point the story would start, familiar enough with Effex's armory to be able to more than defend herself. As far as teamwork goes, Megi is surprisingly quiet, except when she wants to be. However, she does get annoyed at times when people are talking in a seemingly endless manner (or loudly). In a situation of danger, Megi is not going to use herself as a shield for anyone- ever. She's far too concerned with number one to risk getting killed easily. However, that doesn't mean she won't do whatever she can to support a team- within reason. A risky choice, but one that may pay off.

Also in play will be a new superhero who I will be possibly using to bridge a connection between DH and other comics, though she's not quite finished in development yet. Not to mention, spoilers. XD

Aaaand I didn't bother to finish my own post, it seems!
I'm down for Liberty Girl- she sounds like she'll be an interesting one. Once we have a decent pool to start from, we'll be able to start picking sides. :3

I'm really sorry for not being at this forum more often.  It keeps slipping my mind, as I try, for one, to seek out comic creators off of Drunk Duck (plus, my regular Internet hates this site, so I tend to get off of it as soon as I've read the comics that updated and possibly put up pages of my own).  I'll PQ those who want me to do so.

But I also have been thinking that, since there's half a year to go until January, I might want to get together a forum specifically for hashing together the story (coordinating everybody together, working on plot threads and the like).  That's something to look out for.

I also already have created a wiki I'm using as a central hub of sorts (http://crossovermelee.wikia.com/wiki/Crossover_Melee_Wiki), which is woefully under-developed.  But I'm doing it as a wiki so that all participants can update it, rather than just me.  People may know better about when their comic updates, or the details about it.

On that note, the project is going to be called Crossover Melee.  I like the name, and it might prove fitting, considering how chaotic such a project can be.

There is now a planning forum.  I've contacted all that I can remember who wanted to be involved.  Check your PQs if you haven't yet and if you volunteered and didn't get contacted, just let me know.  I'll send out the address to the forum to anybody that wants to be involved.
