Hey you Brit-type DDers: anybody run down by Olympic cyclists yet?

So who's watching?

I've missed a lot, including all but about ten mintues of the opening ceremonies
(Lucky me - I got to see actresses dressed up as Victorian nurses scolding kids jumping on their beds - and tuned out before Mr Bean arrived. drats). But I did see the re-play of Daniel Craig escorting QE2. She must have been tickled pink! Wait. Pink! (You know you did see what I did there)

So I'm waiting for the cable TV, 24-hour coverage of the curling competitions to begin. My husband tells me this is only a winter sport - but … I Believe …

Update:
methinks Genejoke has been injured by said cyclists. tis sad. pay him no mind

The only Olympics I was ever into watching was the 1984 LA Olympics.^_^
All our school was really into that one, we were given photocopies of stats on the events and worksheets and problems all based on it, TVs were in the class rooms.

My fave part was the “intro” for Australians that was hosted by George Pepard from the A-team (and Breakfast at Tiffany's). So, so cool!

Since then I haven't really paid much attention. The Sydney 2000 event just made me cringe a bit, especially with that stupid opening ceremony with that little girl singing (the only people who like little girls singing are their mothers, grandmothers in general, and disturbed men), and the lawnmowers and clothes lines. The transvestites were good though- I later met and worked with one of the guys that designed their costumes.

Anyway, I can imagine how some Brits feel about having their country on show like this.

Fuck the Olympics
last time it was in oppressive communist China , and now its in the Orwellian dystopian Britain . its all about ads and product placement and bulldozing poor neighbourhoods . on top of that their mascot is fucking creepy.

You've aving a giraffe ain't ya? our politicians couldn't organise a piss up in a brewery. A police state is way beyond their capabilities.

And the mascot is unsurprisingly absent from any Olympic coverage I have seen.. I wonder why? :p

Who's idea was it to make nightmare aliens the mascot?
Comity and focus group insanity.
Should've gone thw the traditional royal lion or British bulldog and damn the focus groups and critics. Even Bail Brush would've been better than the nightmare deformed inbred cousin on the teletubbies.

Indeed, what are they, some sort of mutated clocks? Sydney 2000 had way better mascots.

And my opinion on the opening ceremony: it was the most British thing I've ever seen on TV! My favourite part was the army of Mary Poppinses vs. Giant Voldemort!

What's all this hate that their mascots are recieving; I've yet to see them. Surely the mascots can't be that…

Jesus! What the hell is that!?
Those were my two cents.

Looking at the title again: “XXX Summer Olympics”
-That's actually something I would really love to see! Lots of bikini clad women doing “XXX” sports…
Sorry, it's not me, it's that title!

Or then again, it IS you. This IS ozoneocean writing, isn't it? XD

But between mascot chatter and random competition thoughts, now I want to see an International competition of mascots / animatrons go at. I think the US would still lead the medal count if those creepy animatrons from Chucky Cheese led Team USA.

My sister's fiance got a new 3D TV for the living room so I've seen many different sports so far. Gymnastics was particularly epic with all the SPARKLY!!!
I'm looking forward to BMX, though. Flying bikes and dirt and awesome…
I don't like a lot of the shady stuff going on around the events like the guarded electric fences, use of troops to make up for the lack of police and private security, the fact that if you put anything badmouthing the olympics in your window the police can just come into your house and rip it down, the civillian cyclists arrested for going on their usual route and the other news stories barely reported of atrocities committed by G4S and the Met police, though.
You can't fault the fact that it's here, however. A lot of what's going on now couldn't have possibly been predicted seven years ago when the economy was in a better state and you can't fault the athletes for it because they've worked for most of their lives to get to where they are now.
But god DAMN are those mascot designs horrible and the logo has been parodied so many times it's not even funny anymore.

Call that jumped up metal rod a knife?
Watch mine go straight through a kevlar table, and if it dunt do the same to a certain gaixan's skull in my immediate vicinity after, I GET A F*****G REFUND! BUKKO, AH?!

Ayes, you are right… maybe.
I did a google image search for “xxx Olympics” and only came up with 2 actual porn pics out of over 100, 2 pics making a joke out of the fact that “xxx Olympics” sounds like porn, and a bunch of pics of male swimmers with the scores positioned over their groins so it looks like naked dudes in a gay porno.

I am big much disappoint :(

Not that I'm any expert on XXX material, but I had assumed that category would be sans bikini. So maybe you're happier than you know. Or not.

For me, I think the Games definitely inspired some productivity - so no disappoint here.
