When we open our latest comic page, on the right side we can see how may people liked our comics… i think information should be provided on the identities of the users who liked it like they do it in Facebook. This would be a new step to bridge the communication gap between users as we will know which guys liked our comics even if they are not our friends.
We should also be provided with information about how many people favorited and recommended our comics.

I disagree. Facebook isn't a great benchmark for that kind of system. It's meant as a social network where people can connect and follow what their friends are doing or are interested in. DD is more like youtube, where people are looking for an audience. A lot of people just want a quick method to show support without giving away their personal information or requiring a login. Not everybody who comes on here is looking to make friends with the writers, or might not even want people to see what their guilty pleasures are.

Anonymity is great, but I still miss all the ways to guage our comic audience.
We used to have site stats – you know, page view numbers… That alone was a great motivator. And the DD Alerter told us how many people favorited your comic. We have nothing now. :( They took all the useful stuff and replaced it with those sad “likes.” :P

I completely agree with usedbooks here. i think we should be able gauge our comic audience, and just knowing the number of likes just doesn't cut it.

The WOWIO guys said they would be bringing that stuff back, but that was over a year ago (and they even took away any ability to put up our own hit counters :P ), so… Just don't hold your breath.

None of the stats before, however, revealed who was looking at your comic. And I really don't see that that's a necessity when it comes to the likes. Other sites don't do that, why should the Duck? It only serves to discourage people from liking comics.

I can definitely see how a lot of people wouldn't want it to be known that they Liked my comic. And also sometimes you accidentally click the stupid thing because it's so close to the navigation bar.

I'm sort of a “Like whore.” I Like just about everything I click on, unless I just absolutely hate it. But I'd hate for people to find out I Liked their comic and then feel obligated to have to reciptocate that and Like mine back. That's one of the reasons I don't comment on too many comics, especially if they're below an M rating. I once left a comment on somebody's comic and then got a PQ from the author saying basically “thanks for commenting, but don't expect me to look at your sick, awful comic.” Gee, thanks.

Personally, I prefer the quiet life of an anonymous Like whore. And if people really want you to know they enjoy your comic, they can leave you a comment or send you a PQ.

I also agree with keeping the anonymity. But I would like to see the stats, custom HTML comics, imaginative logo, the old name, a better color scheme, PQ notifications, and my mod powers.

As far as business goes becasue of what Wowio did to the site, if I were to buy the site from them, I would be reluctant to pay even half of what they paid Platinum. The broke this site like a child breaks its new toy.

Actually some small, tentative, positive changes have been happening from what we've been told. I can't go into what, It's nothing to toot a trumpet over, but getting DD back on its feet does seem slightly closer now, to me at least. And I'd totally given up hope. :]

Dear friends, I have change my mind after reading your thoughts and think anonymity is better for us. But we should atleast be able to know the popularity of the comics created by us and the likes just don't cut it. We should atleast know how many favourites and recommendations we got for our comics. Atleast that facility should be provided. I fully support usedbooks, and completely agree with users seeking to keep anonymous abot liking a comic.

I don't have any particular problem with them having better stat tracking. It sounds like a lot of things got lost in the transition. I just knowthe anonymity is a big deal for me. I find that as I work towards building my own media company, I have to be careful where my name and username shows up online.
Another thing that bugs me with this site is how if you go to a section that requires you to log in, once you've filled in your username and password, it takes you back ot the main page instead of the page you were on. It's the only site I've been to that dumps me back out onto the main page rather than the reply page I was just at when I have to log in. I know that's not something that changed when the site switched over, it's something that has always bothered me.

i think it's fair to say the loss of stats is probably one of THE biggest downfalls of the site change. i know it's beating a dead horse, but MAN, it's like Wowio cut off our index fingers and forgot to glue em back on. it's really disheartening and that, among alot of other things, has just nuked the Duck as far as readership goes and participation. thank god we have commited mods and members willing to go the extra 100 miles to keep this thing breathing life and grabbing people in off the streets, such as the DD Awards, the Webcast, and the Radio Play. thank god for you people.

I've noticed many art forums across the web have died down in activity, not just Drunk Duck. Where did everyone go? At least Deviantart still seems to be alive and healthy.

Like a lot of people they might be working harder and longer as making a living in these lean times.

I can see one good thing about knowing who gave the “likes” you could hunt down and lobby those who haven't and beat them up until they do dammit. You realize those with the most “likes” are all “adult” rated. And the creators actively canvas for “likes” so does this mean that more read pornography or is it that readers of porn are more likely to like what they're reading?

I thought that the “favourites” stat was the only one that actually worked?
When you edit your comic, overview, pages etc, it is right there if you click the STATS button. While the pageview is always at zero, the “total number of favorites” changes…?

second and third most likes and they're both “teen” rated! Heck, mine
doesn't even have swearing! :P

It was a weird process when they remade it… they asked us how things work and what they do, when you'd assume they really shouldn't spent time working that out for themselves from a user perspective.
Then, despite repeated advice, given at the end in “very” strong terms, repeatedly, they went ahead and changed things to work in ways they came up with (for whatever reason), and we had to work it out afterwards.

The admin section is rather… special ^_^

Anyway, I wish my comic was on the like list… I want more likes! :(

Regarding the adult thing, I think that's just the nature of the internet. It was kind of the same when we were working on shows for Mondo over at Animax. The shows that prominently feature T&A always get more upvotes and views than anything else, even when the shows are garbage like Chainmail Bikini Squad (decent designs, coupled with bad animation and some of the least funny writing on the channel, but hey, boobs!, that means an auto upvote and 100k views).

The one thing I REALLY miss is the DD alerter. That was a neat feature! It also encouraged people to leave comments on past pages because they knew they were going to be read. Now, nobody does that- well sometimes I do but I don't think my comments will be discovered anytime soon and that's a downer.

I miss that alerter too. :( I catch back comments because sometimes I go back to check on a fact on an earlier page in my comic – and then end up reading a hundred pages or so and the comments. ^_^; But I don't leave comments on people's previous pages – partly because I doubt they'll ever see them. Even without the alerter, at least DD had that “most recent comment” thing.
It was kinda crappy that it was just the ONE most recent comment. But I used to hang on that anyway, especially as someone was browsing (and commenting on) archives. So, losing that was really sad. Since I have a mirrored site with ComicPress, I have gotten spoiled on being able to manage comments and view them all listed from most recent. – Even though I don't get many commens there, it's still a great feature in theory.

I'd like to CONTACT the ones who liked my comic. See I haven't posted in a year and a half and it appears half my fans don't even go to this site anymore. I've messaged them all to let them know my comic is back and they all died or something. In fact it appears the whole site kinda fizzled since the revamp. Nobody even takes part in the forum games anymore like we used to. It was fun! What happened to the drunkduck.com we all loved?
And how do I get my fans back?

There are four ratings on this site. E, T, M and A. Six of the top ten are rated A, leaving four split up among the remaining three ratings. You're exceptional.

But then what do I know? My comic has sixteen likes and even fewer readers so I certainly know next to nothing about popularity. If anything knowing who liked the comic would give me a list of people to hit up for money.
