I went to New York Comic Con last week. 180,000 people attended. I was hoping there would be independent and alternative publishers there, but it was all mainstream stuff. Oh, well.

I graduated with my BA Hons today! I've actually been done for a while, but missed the deadline for spring convocation. Maybe for the best, because it was much shorter.
Hey, Bravo!
You have big ears and your mother dresses you funny and your comic is mildly amusing in how much it sucks.
Just FYI.

Anyone else here multilingual? I'm applying myself really heavily to learning Russian this year in preparation for grad school, and it's been interesting. I'm also fairly fluent in French, but I've been speaking French since I was five so it's definitely a different experience this time around. Unfortunately I don't have that magical knack for languages that some people have to have, so it's a lot of hard work - and a different kind of work than I'm used to! Some of it is lots of fun, like watching old Soviet comedies or trying to decipher Russian jokes/stories, but some of it is trying to wrap my head around cases and also just rote memorization, which is hard for me.

Talk about other people? Ridiculous. Get out of here with your fancy notions about ‘socializing’ and whatnot.
Talk about other people? Isn't that considered rude?
Like: so-and-so is such an ass and has big ears and does the most over rated garbage comic ever.
As opposed to; everyone hates me and I hate my job and have no friends and why does my comic suck so much.
Or do you want: hey, buddy, you have big ears and your mother dresses you funny and your comic is mildly amusing in how much it sucks.

I grew up speaking German. I didn't start learning English until I started going to school in the states. These days, my English is much better than my German, because I never get the opportunity to practice it.

And I have one year to bone up on Italian for the Eastern Mediterranean Cruise my wife and I are going on.
Believe it or not but in plastic model building you pick up bits of German, Russian even French depending on what country's stuff you build a lot of. Back before instructions were translated there were even magazine articles on Japanese for model builders.

I speak a bit of Spanish. I will never claim fluency. My bilingual coworkers think I could pass for fluent because my accent is very good. They keep asking me if I'm sure I'm not Hispanic.
…
I have been having a severe case of the f-its lately. I think there are two contributing causes.
1. Even though I was a trainer last year, I only did the small 1 to 2 hour classes. This year I have done 3 new hire classes. They are 3 to 5 weeks long and they last all 8 working hours of the day plus about 1 additional hour to do paperwork. Two of my classes were 6:30am to 3pm during a 5 day work week and one was 3:30 - midnight. Add in the fact that my building was moved so that now I have an hour long drive both ways. I'm thoroughly exhausted during my off hours and really don't want to do anything (that includes the weekend). By the time I recover, it is time for my next class. I'm on my last class now and then I'll taking most of November off work to recuperate.
2. The 2016 presidential elections are battering me emotionally. I am pretty sure what is going on here is a sign of impending doom. I don't like either candidate and my dad is a heavy Drumphf supporter and he won't shut up. I've been trying to avoid him while still being a good daughter. There are also people that are too vocal toward either side at work. I can't wait for the elections be over so things might be able go back to normal.
So all and all I really am in a turned off mode and I would like to apologize for it delaying the release of the Drunk Duck Awards winners. This should not be an issue next year.

Ugh… saw a new early access game called Osiris: New Dawn. And from what I've been seeing on Let's Plays I really want to be playing this. However, the one problem I have now is my underpowered video card. It was great for a while, but now many games are coming out that require a memory bus of 256 or better (think of the width of a road and how many lanes of cars can be on it at once) as well as GPU processing power. So here's the card I plan on getting…

I have the day off and the leaves are turning color finally. What do you do with such days?
I owe the garden several hours, but my fantasy is to have a deli pack up a picnic basket and then drive out into the country to find a vineyard.

Cambodia is nice but poor. Very poor.
Everything is in American dollars here, not surprising since the local currency is too confusing. 10,000 notes are hard to deal with. I think it's like 4,050 rael to 1 US dollar.
People are nice, but not as nice as Thai people, though less vain about skin colour! Thais have a thing about looking white skinned, Cambodians seem to be happy about being dark.
I don't think that wanting to have white satin has anything to do with wanting G to look European though. It's a home grown prejudice. The idea is that traditionally, higher cast people were lighter because they didn't work outdoors on the land, plus they would have e worn make up etc, like in China and Japan.

Speaking of computers, does anyone know how to get a home group to stick? I had to upgrade the WEP security and now the Bluetooth laptop randomly stops detecting the Bluetooth printer, even though they are the only two devices in the home group.
I can't figure out what triggers the non-detect, other than when I have to print out something fast, That's when it seems to stop detecting.

I just spent the last three hours pouring over my mail-in ballot for the 2016 general election. I spent time researching candidates campaign pages, learning about every proposition…and then this question comes up:
I am pretty sure I voted on the exact same question in Los Angeles back in 2012, and here it is back on the ballot four years later. I wonder why this state has an obsession with adult film stars and condoms. It also legitimizes why voters need to be over the age of eighteen to vote.

kawaiidaigakusei) Do California ballots have a lot on them to do with the film industry in general?
Colorado ones are weird sometimes. I remember looking election results up before I moved here and one of the resolutions was about forming a committee to deal with extraterrestrials or something like that.

I do not know how to make that stay working.
The best I could ever come up with for bluetooth devices is to memorise the process of re-adding them so I could do it fast.
If you're on Windows 10 in sure there's an app or a workaround.

I'll post some pics later. :)
Most of my time in Cambodia has been spent in Otres beach outside Shianouk Ville. It's a laid back hippy sort of place.
It's very wet here and also very hot. It's relaxing and seeing new stuff is interesting, but honestly at this stage I'd just like to go home.
A week to go yet. :(

In New Jersey we have the one about extending casino gambling statewide. It didn't work in Atlantic City, so let's spread it across the whole state. The casinos are bankrupt in AC what makes them think that moving them a few hours north will make it any more solvent?
And then there's the usual bond issues about roads and the highway fund, which is constantly raided to shore up other parts of the budget. So now they want to amend the constitution so they can't raid it. It's all very corrupt and a filthy mess. And it can lead to such things as Bridgegate with Governor Christie.
And guess what Governor Christie is in charge of Trump's transition team for the White House. So I'm voting for Trump to get Christie out of New Jersey.

A few years ago on Guam there was a proposition put forward. Its purpose was to force the shutdown of the so called “gamerooms” (where people could gamble using machines if they wished). At the same time it would establish that the dog racing park would be the ONLY place on the island where you could gamble. It got rejected however as it was seen by everyone as an attempt at a monopoly on gambling by the dog park's owner. The dog racing park has been closed since then…

Nothing left
Nothing left for me to do!
It's not the pain that I want
Ow ow ow! Oh doctor

Here's a question for those knowledgeable with battleships. Why were a lot of ships equipped with broadside cannons while ships in science fictions are equipped with gigantic “main guns” in the bow? I take it being in space changes the way capital ship battles are fought?
And now that I'm playing Starmade (think minecraft + EVE Online eventually), I'm horribly tempted to recreate Hippie Van's rocketship (the one in her comic). :)

Think of the giant gun in the bow as a ram. Once upon a time ram bows were all the rage. Besides most of the bow gun space battleship designs draw their power off the ship's power plant. Engines usually run longitudinally.
And then there's the fact that they're all just copying off of Space Battleship Yamato. By the way just saw the new Space Battleship Yamato animated movie Odyssey of the Celestial Ark
Seems they just can't get enough of that ship.

@Lonne- Bravo is right that it's a copy of the Space Battleship Yammato (and most if the other ships in that anime).
Another factor is that particle accelerator weapons have to be long usually to accelerate the particles to the right speed and the longest part of a ship is the entire length… But that's still really short for an accelerator. Rail guns have the same thing.

So according to Wikipedia, the reason why ships had broadside cannons was the poor performance of the cannons of the time. I guess in the modern navies of today broadside battles are out of date so to speak as we have guns that can hit targets that are very far away.
I guess Starblazers had it right when it came out. Huge, long guns need a large platform for their barrels. Unless they're about stealth. I'm pretty sure stealth ships probably don't need main guns…

If you watch “Star Blazers ” (Space Battleship Yamato) you will see ships exchanging broadsides. Ships exchanged broadsides to bring maximum firepower to bear. Guns were mounted along the length of a ship simply because that's the largest measurement. You could fit more guns in. That is not to say there were no bow or stern guns. There were ships that were set up having their armament in the bow, but that could be a fraction of what you could mount on a side.
It should be noted that as long as there have been missile weapons on ships there were always ways to exchange broadsides.as well as go head on.
Once you had rotating mounts and later turrets all bets were off. A gun could be rotated to fire to the front or side. Monitor and Merrimack would be a good example for the transition. It should also be noted Merrimack also had a ram bow.
Nowadays weapon systems are still mounted along the length of a vessel. That is simply because being the largest measurement of the ship you can fit them all in. But of course they can fire in all directions. The stealth ships so far shown generally have missiles firing vertically as that is the easiest weapon mount to make stealthy. Though they still retains a rotating gun turret.
Just like the old Starship Enterprise. Sure the ship was always shown firing to the front simply because that was the cheapest special effects
But even in Star Trek the phasers were mounted in a rotating turret and could fire in different directions as the later series showed. But of course game designers and writers are rarely informed enough about such things to portray things the way they really are as opposed to how they looked after a casual glance at a TV screen.

Blegh, ended a 4 year relationship yesterday. It didn't go well, and I am emotionally exhausted. We were together for so long but things got to stagnate between us; he didn't want to move in with me or do anything social anymore, we hardly communicated or communicated well, and he had no ambitions for the future. And I was just unhappy. He was devastated and it's super hard to walk away from it all and of course it sucks to hurt someone you care about.. but I think it was the best choice for me long term. I deleted social media, going to lie low for awhile and focus on me, my work and my webcomic. Sighhh
