I had a similar experience one time. I kinda was half way across the world, and a couple years after I came back to the United States, I got to meet an online friend in Colorado. I never would of expected it before someone pointed out where he lived.

Hope you had a happy and yummy Thanksgiving. Though sushi is always good too. The first real-life meeting I had with online friends, we discovered that we were all very shy introverts who hung around online because we didn't like socializing face-to-face. We walked around for half an hour without anybody saying anything, when we were supposedly looking for a restaurant. I realized what was happening, and since I was the oldest I had to force myself to speak up and get a conversation started (for starters, where does everyone want to eat, and no "anywhere you guys want" is not a valid answer). That was hard, and awkward. But we all ended up having a good time (or so we claimed once we all went home and started chatting online again. LOL).

You may feel you are boring in real life but often people doesn't care. they just like you as you are. of course it can be abit awkward to begin with but as soon you break the ice. it is "hyggelig" time!

I'm happy to hear that you got some relief from the streets and are at least temporarily under a real roof and got to eat out at a high end restaurant (is it the same sushi place on the bridge, I hope?). I'm crossing my fingers that this is a real sign that soon you'll be off the streets for real and in a place of your own.

It takes 6-9 months to build a house. If you figure there's at least 3 people working on it at a time at an average pay of $50k/year + 7.65% employer share of payroll taxes, that's a minimum $81k-$121k just for the labor alone. Most home construction sites I've seen have closer to 5 people working at once. Add materials and purchase cost of the land on top of that and you're closer to $250k. Add a small profit margin and you're at the $280k average price of a new home. The cheaper homes are condos (townhouses or apartments) because you can reduce the construction costs (they share walls). The only way to build a $100,000 home is a pre-manufactured home (trailer park home), where you can do the construction at a factory assembly line. We bought one of those for a (poor) relative for about $45k (used), but they still have to pay rent on the land. Usually a few hundred dollars a month.

It's sad how hard it is to get out of a homeless situation. You have to have a stable job, earn 3x the monthly rent, save up enough for first & last month's rent and security deposit, and if your credit rating isn't perfect even that might not be enough. There are probably a million people scattered around the country with full-time minimum wage jobs that are homeless. And nobody's building $100,000 homes that they could afford to eventually buy and live in, just $300,000+ luxury homes.

Meeting long-distance friends for the first time can be so much fun. I met my best friend online, my rabbit and her squirrel had spent a few years engaged in verbal warfare in the Devilbunny War (maturity level approximately fourth-grade level) when she suggested I come visit her in Anaheim. I got to visit Disneyland and had a marvelous time. I've been visiting about three weekends a year ever since.

Great to hear you had a good visit with a friend in RL! Brightens my day to know you had a good time!

Glad you're staying warm ;) For those days you're in dark places, just remember that we're all here for you. We may appear as names attached to an icon, but you have no shortage of friends.
