We've got a brand new community project for the holiday season: Reashi is organizing another annual DD Secret Santa!
The way it works is that participants sign up, request a drawing of something, and then are randomly given another person to do a drawing for in return. Sign up HERE until Dec 15th.

TOP TEN REBOOT

Most of you are probably aware that stats haven't been working for some time. As a result, the Top Ten have been pretty much static, other than being used to promote community comics. No longer! We are rebooting the top ten, and here’s what you need to know.

The Top Ten will be determined by ‘likes.’

This is currently our most objective way of determining the most popular comics on DrunkDuck. Granted, using likes means the top ten won’t see quite as much movement as it might if we were using stats, because one can’t lose likes the same way they could pageviews. And some of the very top comics (like Charby – way to go, Amelius!) are going to be pretty hard to beat. But as you can see below, at the lower end of the top ten some of the comics are very close in likes, and very attainable with some good campaigning.

Your comic must have updated within the last month to be in the Top Ten.

This is in an effort to keep the Top Ten current. When DDers click on a comic on the front page, I want them to find a great new comic that they can follow regularly, not a once-popular comic that’s since been abandoned. At some point I would love to have a “DD Classics” section which could feature things like finished comics, but I don’t think the Top Ten is the place for that.

If your comic is rated Adult, it cannot be in the Top Ten.

Sorry! :( DD has no problem with Adult comics (nor do I personally), and if you click on ‘comics’ at the top of DrunkDuck you can see all the comics, including the Adult ones, listed in their proper ‘liked’ order. One of the main reasons for this is that folks have to be logged in to DD to be able to see these comics. When people first come to DD the front page is probably going to be one of the first places they go, and we don’t want them to see just a bunch of blank squares that take them nowhere. (If you want to see what I mean, log out and take a look at the ‘comics’ section.)

One spot will be reserved for a community project.

We like being able to promote community comics/projects on the front page, so various ones will be rotated through each week. Unless we have none on a given week, which would make me very sad. This means that the Top Ten is technically the Top Nine, I guess.


If you have any feedback, please leave it in the comments below or post it to this thread. None of this is set in stone, folks, and I’m happy to change around anything that DDers aren't happy with.
Also important: I am doing this manually, which means it will be subject to human error. If you think I somehow missed your comic and that it should be in the Top Ten, please don't panic! Just let me know via PQ or email and I will fix it ASAP.
