LISTEN!

Welcome to another Quackcast! in this “blahcast” we talk about a lot of different subjects. This Quackcast also sees the arival of a NEW feature! It's the Princess January Show, by VinoMas! Where all the hot gos about popularity on DD is covered.
Pitface tells us that Fury is the greatest tank movie ever, I correctly state that Tankgirl owns that honour. We chat about mistaken criticism of a movie or webcomic based on what we WANTED it to be rather than what it was, Suckerpunch being a prime example, but also the Secret Life of Walter Mitty. Bad promotion also sinks projects especially films like John Carter on Mars. We chat about Star Wars The Force Awakens AGAIN! Which leads us to badly written female characters: a strong character is a well defined character that drives a story, not characters that are physically strong, they CAN be, but it has nothing to do with being a “strong” character. It's like the famous “survival of the fittest”: “fittest” does not mean “strongest”, it means the best “fit” for a situation. So those are some of the pop-culture things we “blah” about.

We have a university student doing a study on webcomics. Please consider filling out her survey, linked in our links section!

This week Gunwallace has given us the theme to Project Prince. The simple plucked wire chords introduce us to a dark future scene. Synthesised organ and gentle patter of brushes on cymbals tip us off to the action to come. Loud distorted electric guitars give us the feel of a late night 1980s SciFi action movie

@VinoMas - hahaha!

Ozoneocean at 9:08PM, April 4, 2018

HAHAHA! I want to find out about that too!

VinoMas at 7:28PM, April 4, 2018

The BLAHCast should have been called how movies inspire artists and writers. But I guess there was a lot of blah blah blah with that. lol. I hadn't seen any of the movies you were discussing (other than Star Wars Ep 7) but I knew mostly what you were talking about. I thought all of your comments were interesting and enlightening. The Princess and I were so honored to get to make an idea from Episode 365 Fashion Forum Fantastic become a reality. I'm thinking after PJ discusses the bottom 5 in Top 10, she should start her next investigation reporting: Wha does Banes do while everyone is talking. He is like the posh spice of the Spice Girls (that's a compliment) but inquiring minds want more.....

I saw that Aussie made version of Sahara. It's not quite as good, but it's ok.

plymayer at 2:20AM, April 4, 2018

Could not find the James Belushi Sahara film on Netflix. Will look elsewhere.

plymayer at 2:19AM, April 4, 2018

I like the movie Suckerpunch. It is a live action webcomic.

PIT_FACE at 1:36AM, April 4, 2018

Huh, interesting. Maybe Tantz and I can use that in Brave Resistance.

Ozoneocean at 5:59PM, April 3, 2018

Honeycut is the best apparently.

bravo1102 at 5:32PM, April 3, 2018

And now I'm envious that you'll be riding on a Pzkpfw III! I've climbed on all kinds of tanks but been restricted to riding only on service vehicles. You know there were Pzkpfw III in Greece in World War II. There's a whole portfolio in the Bundesarchiv of them and Pzkpfw IV on vacation from the Russian front, just before they were tasked with hunting the resistance. You can have whole libraries on armor and still barely scratch the surface. Any of the Osprey New Vanguard series are a good start.

PIT_FACE at 10:41AM, April 3, 2018

(and sorry for the wall of text. the damn thing still doesnt paragraph break when I try to make it)

PIT_FACE at 10:41AM, April 3, 2018

(con't)presented in the movie. I was reading some back and forth about the scene with the Tiger vs. the Shermans earlier. Really cool insight! Actually, at the end of the month, I'll get to take a ride in a Panzer III. Really looking forward to it. Very civilian, I know, lol. But I am one of those. I wanna feel the rumblin and hear the creeks and tings. Wanted to drive a tank since I was in high school. So...well anyways. Thanks for the compliment, dude! And if you have any good resources for specs and info (a broad question, but still), I'd love to be pointed that's way.

PIT_FACE at 10:36AM, April 3, 2018

I know that you're passionate about this stuff man. its hard not to be when something's so near and dear to ya. I mean I can certainly get that way with movies about subjects that I've been/am a part of. Lol, trust me, you don't want to approach an archaeologist with ancient aliens. You probably see Fury the same way that I see Indiana Jones. I think they're great movies, but that sure as shit isn't archaeology. So I totally get you there. My malfunction was when you were saying that since I haven't lived your profession, I couldnt comment on whether I thought Fury was the best tank movie or not. (which i wasnt, but i mean now as a matter of principle). I couldnt comment on it from a tanker's perspective, true. But I could judge it from its cinematic qualities. so...ah. That's all I was trying to say. Truth be told, I have been becoming more of a tank enthusiast and would infact enjoy seeing a discussion where professionals discuss the merits and flaws with the tanks as they're

Zaptoid56 at 10:29AM, April 3, 2018

I'm looking forward to our upcoming military parade. No tanks. A few nukes on flatbeds pulled by all American Peterbilts on ice roads...it doesn't get any better than that.

Ozoneocean at 10:14AM, April 3, 2018

The worst tank film I can remember is this movie with one of the Baldwins in it... It's basically pure anti-Russian propaganda. That's all it is. The weird thing was that when I first saw it I had thought it was a really good tank movie from the Russian perspective. I recommended it to my dad and years later we saw it together. I was so embarrassed! I hadn't realised how shit it was till then 😂

bravo1102 at 10:06AM, April 3, 2018

As if it matters Tankgirl's tank started out as a PT-76 and morphed into an M3A3 Stuart. But of course the all time bar-none greatest tank movie of all tank movies is Sahara with Humphrey Bogart and the 1990s remake with Jim Belushi (He does a good job as a tank sergeant) The remake was filmed entirely in Australia and you can tell it was a really a labor of love. And Fury copied a pile of stuff from it. :D "There's just two things wrong with that professor. First, it's not made out of tin and second it's no hearse. It's an M3 air-cooled medium tank." Fury and Kelly's heroes or Sahara is the difference between technical excellence and spirit and humanity as opposed to faux Hollywood angst.

bravo1102 at 9:58AM, April 3, 2018

You're right Pit. Fury does a great job of putting you inside a turret of a tank in the ETO. You can almost smell it and I loved the movie. But the whimsical side of me still prefers Kelly's Heroes because those are the guys I knew and served with for ten years. There are all kinds of stuff going back and forth on the war geek boards about it. If the crew had done half that stuff and the movie a half hour shorter it would have been much better. I lived the life you didn't. I can't help that I have a passion about it. Hardest job you'll ever love. And I gotta say you'd make a damn good tanker. Good and ornery. And last time I checked you were the one with tits not me. A great war film that isn't about tankers but has a great scene in a tank is Big Red One. A French woman gives birth in a tank turret. Really happened. As if it matters Fury was an M4A3E8 Sherman. I have a model of it naturally. ^_^

Ozoneocean at 9:22AM, April 3, 2018

HAHAHA! 😁😁😁😁 And you were right Pit, it's an ordinary Sherman so I cut that bit out off the Quackcast.

PIT_FACE at 9:10AM, April 3, 2018

Though you know what? Fuck it. If i DID want to say it was the bet tank movie, I absolutely could. The prime deciding factor of that is not whether it's 'the truest true true movie ever, omg." it's due to the factors that I consider when taking a movie's merit into account. Cinematography, sound, dialogue, acting, storyline, what toilet paper the director uses when he decides to wipe his ass after the morning wank. I don't care. I'm fully aware that it is full of falsities. It's a movie. I enjoyed it. And Oz, stop trying to start shit.

PIT_FACE at 9:07AM, April 3, 2018

I didn't actually say it was the best tank movie ever. I just talked about how much I liked it. Calm your fucking tits, Bravo.

bravo1102 at 8:09AM, April 3, 2018

Yes, I have the been assembling the stuff to do a tanker comic but it's still a work in progress.

bravo1102 at 8:05AM, April 3, 2018

And Tankgirl is a cute comic and a fun movie but it ain't about tanking. Armor Rules. Now mount up and move out.

bravo1102 at 8:03AM, April 3, 2018

None of you know nothing about real tanking, so you can't pretend to call "best tank movie ever" Fury has it's moments but it's pure Hollywood. Those guys do in one day what about a dozen different guys did over 18 months in the ETO. It's full of real bits and Brad Pitt's character is based on real life Lafayette Poole. But the best tanking movie is Kelly's Heroes. That's how tankers see themselves. We're the dirty, crusty, grease-covered, unshaven hair-cut needing bright eyed little dips who can take a tank and do more battlefield damage in one hour than a grunt squad can do all day. "Don't hit me with those negative waves so early in the morning." "We was assaulted by them there Tigers in the Bocage country" "Crapgame to a New Yorker like you a Hero is some kinda weird sandwich not a guy who takes on three Tigers." "So many positive waves how can we go wrong?" Eastwood and Sutherland were World War II geeks and did everything they could to get it right.

Ozoneocean at 3:31AM, April 3, 2018

Yes. Oddball is the grandaddy of tankgirl 😁😁😁

plymayer at 1:16AM, April 3, 2018

IS Kelly's Heroes (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065938/) considered a tank movie?
