Episode 63 - Working for a living

Feb 7, 2012

Dressed in a long, tight fitting sparkly black evening gown and elbow length opera gloves, the lovely Skoolmunkee dashes from the scene of the murder of poor Banes to arrive breathless on the Quackcast set and establish her alibi! This week we talk about what us amateur webcomic artists do to support ourselves, or just in those few brief moments when we're not actually making webcomics, and how that affects, influences and changes our webcomic work. We have many interesting contributions from interesting people! I must once again apologise for the sound quality though, major computer trouble I'm afraid. Episode 63 re-issued! How working life affects webcomicing.

I just started listening to the shows. I like drawing and hearing you guys.

haha Ozone, I want intending on doing that joke... but it sounded funny when you were reading it XD

Abt_Nihil at 6:55AM, Feb. 9, 2012

Oz: I've been wiggling the jack like crazy (no innuendo implied :P), and in some extremely rare cases, it does work... :/

Ozoneocean at 9:00PM, Feb. 8, 2012

Sometimes wiggling the jack helps Abt_nihil. For some reason points on speaker and headphone jacks fail to conduct properly. Cleaning it can help too. Niccea, I think you just need better software maybe? Or try recording on a different computer?

Abt_Nihil at 9:48AM, Feb. 8, 2012

Well, now I have proof that my speakers only output the left channel (I could only hear Oz giggling, but not the reason for it :P). Luckily, plugging in my headset revealed skoolmunkee's contribution! Regarding what skoolmunkee said about the "don't look at my butt" page: That's actually one thing I'd do differently now, and I sort of regret the way it turned out. It came out like the "pervy male looks at sth he couldn't possibly have ignored and gets smacked for it" anime clichee, which I hate. It should really just have been mild bickering among friends, coupled with his unintentionally getting kicked because of the tight space (= car) in which she's changing. Anyway, I enjoyed your comment/favorable critique ^_^

I haven't been able to get good recordings of my voice. I have a weird quality I guess. Trust me. Most people prefer me to write what I want to say than to talk.

skoolmunkee at 6:37AM, Feb. 8, 2012

Gunwallace, nothing stopping you from sending in an addendum! Haha :] Thanks for the comments on this one, guys. :]

Ozoneocean at 12:19AM, Feb. 8, 2012

This time we had stereo, stereo... Hahaha! Chernoborg, replace that damn globe! Seriously ^_^ This crashed on me too, so my audacity isn't alone... Something in Skool's criminal voice is deadly to computers!

Gunwallace at 10:34PM, Feb. 7, 2012

Noooo. Once again I failed to read the instructions. This is why my BBQ doesn't work properly either. I think I'd better go and read my manuals.

Banes at 9:38PM, Feb. 7, 2012

I wonder if ozone's take on Niccea's voice will push her to send in recordings as opposed to forum posts to be read. Well, the voice had me in stitches, I'll tell you what. (dies again).

Banes at 9:36PM, Feb. 7, 2012

Mortally wounded by skoolmunkee (damn that distracting number she was wearing!), I've spent my last few breaths scrawling out a long, cryptic verse as a clue to my murderer's identity, to be discovered and deciphered by, say, a Columbo, Magnum or Matlock. Hrhm. Banes.....out......urk.....*huff* great....Quack...cast...by...the team...supreme..........uhhhh.

Chernobog at 7:41PM, Feb. 7, 2012

Also, a black rectangle? Maybe turn up your gamma a hair and get a closer view. What can I say? I like to hide in plain sight. It's quite intentional. (The old bunny pic was Robby the Rabbit mascot from the Silent Hill: The Room.)

Chernobog at 7:38PM, Feb. 7, 2012

To clarify, it IS a 40 yr old desk lamp and it isn't very strong even on the high setting. I'm left to draw in a great deal of shadow. But I can't bring myself to simply toss it. It's something my late family members had and yet it still works on the exact same bulb from back then. I've been using it on and off since the 90's. I call it my Macabee Lamp, if you follow the reference.

Niccea at 3:50PM, Feb. 7, 2012

TT_TT I have you know that my name is very important to me.

ayesinback at 3:21PM, Feb. 7, 2012

@Niccea - try again (they got your name right/wrong). Great QC, Alpha Team -- so that's a ref to the wrong TV show, but I just don't have Columbo refs. Nice to have the Team back! re Gunwallace, I understand he doesn't read directions . . .

Niccea at 2:49PM, Feb. 7, 2012

It keeps crashing on me.
