SS5 143 Sunday Night
skyangel on April 14, 2016
I just HAD to use a candelabra!! lol Lovely responses to last weeks page, it would be fun to have played in the toyroom more but we have to move on.
Next week as you can probably guess, Sarah's going to receive yet another piece of the puzzle as a dream, that will help her solve the riddle of what happened to Laura.
:)

Infected: I watched it last night. It was pretty horrifying!
Infected Blood at 3:28PM, April 22, 2016
Agh! I'll look for that on Netflix (now that I'm married to someone who never did anything that weird in ger sleep :) )

Fred: The one reason I've often put it on the backburner along with Nosferatu is because of it's age. I made it through Metropolis once but as the acting in the early films was often so laboured and theatrical, I suffer! But yea for ideas and inspiration I still know I'll enjoy them to some extent.

I've watched Caligari many times and I still am unsure what it means. But any visual artist should see it - it's one of a kind.

What? You are going to end this? "NOOOOOOOOOOO!" :D But seriously, if you do end this, please do a kickstarter to publish it

DV: I think this is our eighth year! It was supposed to be our last too but it always surprises me how long it takes to tell a story in pictures! THis present arc though was never originally planned so that has extended the finishing line quite a bit.

Fred: I know you only started reading a short while ago but already you've proven to be a very likeable and valued reader, especially by me. :) Incidentally I've never seen The Cabinet of Dr Caligari even though it's been on my wishlist for about 20 yrs! I really must try and get to see that before someone spoils the plot for me!!

Bear: I like the way he used the word 'compulsory' I guess that might scare many hetero guys!
DarkVisor at 10:58AM, April 20, 2016
Agrecian FredHedges; this is one of the longest running webics have personally been reading (certainly the longest consistently), and will continue to read it for as long as the interwebs lasts :D (longer when it gets published :D)

I just love this strip! I love all the comments, the jokes, and the serious discussions. And I love being confused about the plot twists! Thanks to all.

I remember when they legalized homosexuality, in the U.K. Some stupid reporter was interviewing people returning after years away...some old major type said he didn't mind it being made legal, as a lot of his 'chaps were that way' he knew, but if they made it compulsory. he was damned-well going back to India, By Jove! B-) p.s.,it was still illegal here in Qld,when I got here ( 'til '89 !)

DV: Sarah's a tough little cookie deep down :)
skyangel at 12:30AM, April 20, 2016
Bear: I find it interesting that back in the 60's it was actually a punishable crime to be homosexual and when one reflects on cases like that of Alan Turin and even later cases such as Jeremy Thorpe it feels as though the more obvious the orientation was, like Liberace and Kenneth Williams, the more accepting people were, although perhaps in a rather naive way. Whereas being outed after trying to keep their sexuality private was seen more as dark and unacceptable. So to me it feels like being outrageously obvious like Libby, KW and Quentin Crisp back then seemed to attract more compassion and acceptance than someone who just said 'I'm gay', because they made us laugh.

Poor Sarah, but at least she's not giving up, and working out ways around the 'problems'
BearinOz at 4:51PM, April 19, 2016
" ..for some reason.." He was as camp as a row of tents. He was very popular in the 50s and 60s, so appeared on a lot of variety ( pre-chat ) shows. I think his outfits were the inspiration for Elton John's. He was ( like a lot of gay entertainers ), very popular with the "blue-rinse" set and they filled his live concerts . He was probably the first "big" name to die of AIDs, along with Rock Hudson. I'd like to see that film about him, with Michael Douglas, but haven't yet .

Tommym: I like to think that Laura is trying to help Sarah focus on certain details that will help her reveal the truth.;) I do remember seeing Liberace on TV just a couple of times when I was very young, and that was at my gran's house too. I've no idea if he was just a very popular guest or if he had his own shown but I do remember finding him very amusing for some reason.:)
skyangel at 5:23AM, April 19, 2016
Fred: I'm good at confusing people for sure! lol Lucy's dreaming of real events from her past but I can't imagine a sleep talker could give a great deal of accurate detail so although Sarah's picking up those lines in her sleep it's no doubt her own sleepy brains version of events rather than Lucy's. I rather base it on the same idea as perhaps hearing a car horn at 3am but dreaming it was a tugboat! For the sake of clarity though the main points of each dream do reflect what really happened. When Sarah finally gets home, Nikki will go over it with her logically to make sure we all get the right idea. :)

Tupapayon: Haha I love it :)
skyangel at 5:15AM, April 19, 2016
Infected: Thanks for sharing that, that really is very creepy! I'm not sure how I'd deal with that. Coincidentally Netflix have just added an hour long documentary entitled 'Sleepwalkers who kill' which explores that exact same thing but where people were murdered by the dreamer!
skyangel at 5:07AM, April 19, 2016
Bear: We have three of those things too. Two are in cupboards and the third is stuck on the wall right beside my pillow! Even though it only takes 3x aaa batteries, looking at it full on late at night can be quite painful!
skyangel at 5:02AM, April 19, 2016
Kim: It did seem amusing to me to think of Sarah describing Lucy to her friends as 'the stuff of nightmares! ;)
tommym at 7:49PM, April 16, 2016
Dear Sky, Sarah must have that old time haunted house feeling:) So now I know where Libarace's candelabra came from. My grandmother watched him on TV fifty years ago! Think Laura's ghost( who lives in Lucys unconscious mind) is trying to reach out to Sarah,to tell Sarah how she really died! This can become a Nancy Drew moment for Sarah:) tommym
fredhedges at 1:50PM, April 16, 2016
So, OK so... Dreams are the royal road to the unconscious, so Sarah's dreaming, but she's dreaming about Lucy's dreaming, so that leaves us... And maybe Sarah talks in her sleep too which affects Lucy's dreams, so whose road are we on? I'm mixed up again, dammit.
tupapayon at 8:03AM, April 16, 2016
In the words of Gabriel Iglesias: "Man, she's got issues... But look at her butt!"
Infected Blood at 6:50AM, April 16, 2016
Ok, time for my creepy tale, because this is really hitting close to home. A woman I met a while back used to talk in her sleep. I didn't know that. The third or fourth time we slept together, she woke me up because she was yelling "I'm gonna kill you!" I jumped out of bed and nearly ran for the door, before I realized she was just having a nightmare. So, I kind of reluctantly went back to bed. The next day, I asked her if she had any recollection of talking in her sleep the night before. She said she didn't, and was very surprised when I told her what had happened. Her justification was, "Oh, I remember dreaming of a man who yelled at me 'I'm going to kill you!', so I repeated that back to him in disbelief. I must have said that in my sleep." That was... the lamest excuse ever. She turned out to be a very passive-aggressive person and had other unexplained bouts of aggression during wake time. Long story short: watch out, Sarah! :/
