I know we're late this week but it happens from time to time so please don't worry too much. Becky has Lupus as I think I've mentioned before and that means she really does have a limited amount of energy per day which she has to plan in advance quite carefully so she's home if she suddenly needs to lie down etc. naturally she has a life beyond the comic and last week she overdid things abit and it all caught up with her, but thankfully nothing serious, just needing more time to get the page done for us. Because of the delay I was going to leave this update until next Sat to give her more time for the next but she insisted I post and keep to schedule. She's a trooper! :)
Next week then…. Find out what lies behind the door. It has to be the tape recorder right? ;)
Fortunately for me, have the computer and games and webics, if didn't have those probably would never get out of bed (have one game that have been logging in daily for over 1400 continuous days)
That explanation about sums it up, but for me, it's a random number every time wake up and that number is never revealed to me. A better explanation to better explain how it is for me: you are like a barrel, a huge water barrel... with holes in it, while you sleep it fills up, but the barrel is sealed (apart from the holes) so you can't see how much is in it ... You have heard the term "running on the fumes of an oily rag"? That is a common occurrence for me, it's a struggle to do _anything_: thinking, walking, talking, all you want to do is go back to bed and sleep, but you can't, you still have things to do, and even getting (un)dressed for bed is sometimes too much, but you still have to, if you don't stick to how things are supposed to go it's far to easy to skip them all the time
"I review the comic for publication, just to help the story flow more smoothly" ...hmmm, taking our advice, or always part of the plan ? B-) ...yeah, most of us have 'funny' events and I've woven a few into my stuff, like B.E. As for art style, when I was young, women's mags usually had a piece of fiction, accompanied by a romantic water colour illustration...it's the kind of look I wanted for B.E., but it drifts back and forth between 'paint' and 'line'...plus I love getting away from the 6( or 9) panel format !
DV: When I first met Becky she showed me a short piece somebody had written about using a handful of spoons to explain Lupus to a friend. This is just part of it:
"I asked her to count her spoons. She asked why, and I explained that when you are healthy you expect to have a never-ending supply of "spoons". But when you have to now plan your day, you need to know exactly how many "spoons" you are starting with. It doesn't guarantee that you might not lose some along the way, but at least it helps to know where you are starting. She counted out 12 spoons. She laughed and said she wanted more. I said no, and I knew right away that this little game would work, when she looked disappointed, and we hadn't even started yet. I've wanted more "spoons" for years and haven't found a way yet to get more, why should she? I also told her to always be conscious of how many she had, and not to drop them because she can never forget she has Lupus."
Fred: Thanks:) When I first started this comic somebody asked me if I was a storyboard artist, which threw me as I didn't really see the connection! But I've come to realise that my style is far more influenced by film than other comic art. I've rather stubbornly stuck to the six panel layout all through because to me the 'camera' is always that shape, although I do pinch or stretch frames more now than i used too. I'm such a movie buff too though and it's hard for me not to play the SS scripts through my mind as if I wasn't sitting in the middle of the cinema eating popcorn. :)
Bear: That's the sort of stuff I love about life, there's always enough unexplainable or mysterious events to make us realise there are probbaly things we still do not really know enough about. When I first thought about doing this 'haunted house' arc I felt I might be betraying my intention of writing a realistic story based on real incidents but when I thought of all the things that have either spooked me in my life or just occurred without a rational explanation I found there was so many similar small moments like this in my own life that they were worth working with.
Tommym: I never did a page where the girls are listening to the old tape recordings as I felt it was wasting too much time to do so but I was thinking I will probably add that as an additional page when I review the comic for publication, just to help the story flow more smoothly. :)
Kim: I'm like you, I always want to believe in ghosts and flying saucers and fairies but I always need that personal evidence to totally win me over or I'll always slip back into having doubts again. :)
Don't know what 'Lupus' is (except, according to Dr. House, it's never Lupus :P), but do have Chronic Fatigue, which is a mild form of "Cinderella Sickness", so understand about running out of energy and sleeping for days
I'm impressed with how cinematic this strip is/has been. The sequence of panels replicates camera movement and camera set-ups. Panel six is a wonderful high shot and the foreshortening is beautifully done. Then the last panel is your typical cliff-hanger shot, right out of an action serial. Keeps me on the edge of my seat!
And the advantage of a "late" strip is that we may not have to wait so long for the next one!
O.K., glad everyone's O.K.-ish. There's a logical explanation for everything, right ? However, I AM still waiting for someone to give me one for having my girlfriend/wife shout at me, on several occasions to "wake up !", when I've fallen asleep at the wheel, when she was at least a dozen kilometres away, often a lot more !
( and similar happened to my Dad, many years earlier )
Dear Sky, Hope you feel alot better now Becky. You do a great job with the coloring! I dont remember the girls playing with a tape recorder. But like Kim, I really would love seeing Sarah run into a ghost. Sarah would faint, Becky would come down stairs, and the ghost would explain to them the Real History of the house and its past inhabitants :) tommym
Well, whoever is there (whatever?), I'm awaiting in gleeful anticipation!! Be brave Sarah!! It's funny, even though I'm an extreme skeptic, I'd love to see a 'supernatural' something such as a ghost!! In such a way there were no doubts...! Once I convinced myself I wasn't crazy, my whole worldview would change!!

@DV yep very similar. Sometimes I'm more fatigued when I wake up than when I went to bed. I'm sorry to hear what you go through.
