SS6 18 The Carlingford Curse 5
skyangel on Feb. 25, 2017
The story so far:
Since moving into the family home of her girlfriend Lucy, Sarah is convinced the house is haunted. At first she assumed it was Lucy's previous partner who died there in mysterious circumstances but now she is not so sure! An old couple who live nearby are telling Sarah about the strange legend that surrounds the house.
Next Week: Lenore disturbs Carlingford's garden party! ;)
Have a good week!

PM'd you, after your B.E. comments, btw ! (p.s. NO !. I'm not further ahead over here - I just left it 'finished' at e.o. Book One...unless someone comments, I might not restart the D.D. version)
BearinOz at 10:15PM, Feb. 27, 2017
"... I treat you guys like my editors..." Hmmm...I miss that on mine. Even the odd adverse comment would be nice. It tends to be just you and Ply', in my comments, mostly B-)

I am blessed with that pleasure for sure and as we've both mentioned before it's quite amazing how many people do read comics but don't comment, but it all seemd to change when people could follow on their mobile phones. I really treasure the early pages on here when web comics were in their infancy and there was so much excitement on both sides of the comic production. I'm all caught up on Fury btw but here on DD you seem to be further ahead.

This is one of my favorite layouts! It's so beautifully designed and it guides your eye so smoothly through the action. Fantastic colorization, as well. Just Masterful!

Wow Barry thank you so much! Coloring this storyline has been lots of fun :)
skyangel at 12:48PM, Feb. 27, 2017
Barry: I've really enjoyed doing the pages in this short arc as it's given me plenty of new things to draw and challenged me to try and make them more exciting than normal, but I am getting a bit tired of drawing crows! :)
KimLuster at 6:47AM, Feb. 27, 2017
Sorry for my late response - I'm just now recovering from my computer woes!!! What a wonderful page! Great layout and just love how you overlayed all those flying crows!!! You have an excellent knack for maximizing the drama!! "I am Vengeance!!"
skyangel at 12:07PM, Feb. 27, 2017
Kim: You're too sweet! :) I know you've been having problems so I was wondering if you had managed to get up and running again, and luckily it sounds like you have! Funnily enough... those last words of yours are almost exactly what she says next page although Lenore do put things in stranger ways!
DarkVisor at 8:46AM, Feb. 26, 2017
You need not have changed her last line simply because didn't understand it, it just seems so... _plain_ now
DarkVisor at 5:12AM, Feb. 28, 2017
The original line was good, just didn't understand it, but if you were considering changing it anyway, then that makes me feel a little better ... Not sure if we read "The Raven" in school, but everyone knows it, and we had to do "The Tell-Tale Heart", possibly _because_ everyone knows "The Raven"
skyangel at 11:56AM, Feb. 27, 2017
Haha I was waiting for this! Not quite as plain as 'Right let's get the bastard!' though. Don't feel bad about having mentioned it in the first place, I've had my doubts ever since I inked the text but I treat you guys like my editors, if there's nobody to throw the page back at me it's very hard to tell how it comes across, as it always makes sense in my own head!
BearinOz at 7:58PM, Feb. 25, 2017
Jeeez, I'm late today, with comments _and_ replies already !! I thought the same as Dark' "still, no more" sounds contradictory. Being a big Pratchett fan, I immediately thought of Grannie Weatherwax and her "borrowing" when I saw that nice big "L" panel B-) For MO' Crows and Ravens belong to the same family. - "Corvids" - the crow family, including magpies, which are such a pain in the arse here, attacking people, and jays, are the most intelligent birds, along with the parrot family. And "no" I can't tell crows from ravens either.
skyangel at 5:18AM, Feb. 26, 2017
Bear: You are indeed, considering you were first last week! :) I agree now, the line was clumsy and as her final words are supposed to reflect her anger it's important they make sense so I've changed them. I have never read any of Terry Pratchett's work btw but it's something I've often thought about doing when I have more time spare.
moizmad at 1:27PM, Feb. 25, 2017
Yummy, I can't wait to see what she does to Carlingford, something dastardly I'm thinking. What's the difference between crows and ravens? We have crows here, and they are very smart birds, they recognize me (I toss them peanuts on my walks) but I can't tell them apart.
skyangel at 2:46AM, Feb. 26, 2017
Mo: It's pretty evil for sure! hehe As for the differences, visually they are so similar that I felt I didn't have to worry too much although ravens are much bigger. Speech wise the crow goes CAW and the raven goes CROAK so I preferred to stay with the crows on that one. Interestingly though the biggest difference is in lifespan, a crow lives for around 8yrs and a raven 30!
Phantomduck at 11:51AM, Feb. 25, 2017
Hell hath no fury like a pissed off parent mourning their lost child.
skyangel at 2:36AM, Feb. 26, 2017
Phantom: Absolutely! Lenore's lost everything she held dear and she's a changed person now!
Ashley.Grenstone at 7:30AM, Feb. 25, 2017
Ooo can't wait to see what happens!
skyangel at 2:34AM, Feb. 26, 2017
Ashley: Haha get the popcorn ready!
tommym at 6:42AM, Feb. 25, 2017
Dear Sky, Great that Lenore can use her crows as extra eyes and ears. Carlingfords heart will never know rest, it will be in torment for all eternity! Think you put it quite well Sky, not easy to improve on Poe. Like how the ravens are grouped together in second panel, they know the sadness of Lenore and seem to be thinking about their next move:) tommym
skyangel at 2:33AM, Feb. 26, 2017
Tommym: Hehe you got it! I'm not pompous enough to think I could improve on Mr Poe for sure, what I really wanted to do was use a line from the poem itself but unfortunately nothing really fitted. The background in the second panel was originally just the horizon with a few trees but then I thought it was more atmospheric to have the birds grouping around her. :)
Infected Blood at 5:34AM, Feb. 25, 2017
Oh, so she can see through the eyes of the crows! Or maybe she can understand their "language"? Either way, this is really cool, let's see this revenge :) *munches on popcorn*
skyangel at 5:56AM, Feb. 25, 2017
IB: I did originally have the showman introducing Lenore as the 'Daughter of the Ravens! protected and saved by them as an orphan and now so in tune with them that they can communicate with each other in a way that defies normal understanding' But along with the lines describing her act the text became too text heavy so I decided this was something that wasn't really relevant to Sarah's investigation anyway.:) *pinches some popcorn*
DarkVisor at 4:41AM, Feb. 25, 2017
"Let his heart be still no more"? Not sure the meaning behind that, but fun times ahead (well, not for Old Carl though)
skyangel at 5:43AM, Feb. 25, 2017
DV: Poe uses the word 'still' and 'stillness' many times throughout the poem and it gains a sort of weight that becomes much more evident in the very last verse, so I really wanted to use that if I could. In a comparable way the narrator first says, 'to still the beating of my heart' and then later,'let my heart be still a moment,' in regard to it beating with fear, so I've used his words as a threat from Lenore instead. I've thought about changing it ever since I wrote the line but rather stubbornly I suppose I do like the way it comes out. I'll see what other readers think first and then maybe change it if needbe.
