SS6 57 Ron's Story 7
skyangel on Dec. 2, 2017
Quick Recap: Ron here took Laura into his family after being told by a previous partner who was dying, that she was his daughter. The new addition to the family caused a lot of trouble for her new family as she did not settle in easily and as a result Ron spent more time away from home as he didn't know how to deal with the escalating friction between
his wife and new ‘daughter’.
Huge amount of responses to the last page, and some very passionate too! As I've said before, what I really like about Ron's character is that he's not a downright villain and can be very thoughtful and generous at times but he's also a man who lives on his emotions and reacts in ways that makes him very scary at times. As to how good or bad he is though, you lovely readers are the jury who will judge him on the evidence he is submitting now, so it will be interesting to see how the majority of you see him when Sarah leads him to the end.
Have a nice week :)

Very dramatic first panel - I like the way everything in the composition expresses the urgency of the situation.

Fred: I'm always amazed at how effective tilting the viewpoint works. It's a very useful technique in that it enables the artist to include more in the panel (like the top of the house here) as well as creating a more dramatic effect to a scene which would probably look much more relaxed were the angle level. I also like how Becky turned an upstairs light on in one window and left the rest dark as it has a greater suggestion of disturbance than if all the lights were on.

Nice layout and perspectives. Good details of the hospital too.

Coydog: Thanks :)

Wow the scenes and angles you come up with!!! I still don't love how Ron has handled everything but he's certainly starting to win me over! Even with the dumb decisions, seems there was never any malice!! In fact, seems he truly cared!! Maybe he'll do something really mean and make me not like him again!!

Kim: Thanks :) As I said to IB it's wise to hold judgement back at this stage as there is a bit more yet to come and from here on it gets a little more complex for Ron emotionally

Haha I feel the same, he seems to be either heading towards 'super misunderstood dad awards' or 'hell' depending on where the next pages takes him. He's been a bit manipulative and creepy though, but if it is for the sake of his daughters protection maybe the actions are somewhat redeemable.

Yeah, he's made some _seriously_ dumb decisions, butt, he has made them in what he believed to be the best for everyone, some were hurt, but you can not please everyone every time

So Ron's not such a bad guy after all. Panel #1 makes me drool with envy sky.

Mo: I used sketch-up to get a handle on that panel but at the start of the comic I would happily set up a couple of models and either sketch the pose from life or take a digital photo.

Dear Sky, Very nice hospital bed, her vital signs are stable. Ron may have meant it when he vowed to be a proper father, but I wonder about the outcome. Presumably he uses this opportunity to say that Laura died, then he sets her up in the flat Sarah saw her in. Then what? He visits her secretly so he can be a proper father? All the while maintaining an on going lie to Lucy. He created a real life soap opera situation for his self. tommym

Tommym: You're right on several points there but you'll hear his reasoning and some additional material over the next few pages so I won't elaborate on what you've said right now. :)

Beautiful page, full of desperation and desolation (hospitals are very good at that), with a glimpse of hope at the end! About Ron - the jury is out, right now. I'd like to hear the whole story before making up my mind :)
skyangel at 1:31AM, Dec. 7, 2017
IB: Ron's story will all be told in the next few pages so you're wise to hold back until he's finished.

Hooray ! Great page. Apart from the colour scheme, that hospital corridor is so familiar to this " frequent flyer " -although not for 2 years now, touch wood B-) The top panel is great.

Hi Bear, I'm lucky in that it's been many years since I was admitted to hospital as a patient but just visiting other people makes me feel uneasy!
