Im L, Im considered the worlds greatest detective. Through clever use of aliases, Im also known as the worlds second and third greatest detectives, Eraldo Coil and Deneuve, respectively. Though outwardly appearing as disheveled and languid, I am a genius on par with Light. My powers of deduction and insight allow me to draw conclusions from the smallest of clues. I tend to second-guess everything I am presented with, and am extremely meticulous and analytical. I have several quirks such as preferring to crouch rather than sit, loving sweet foods like desserts and fruits, and holding items very delicately.

I am quite secretive and only communicate with the world through my assistant, Watari. I never show my face to the world, instead representing myself with a capital L in Old English 5 Font. I only first reveal myself to the Kira investigation team, and have them refer to me as Ryuuzaki for discretion. When I attends Lights college, I take the name Hideki Ryuga, deliberately using the name of a popular singer to see if Light was Kira. Even the Kira investigation team never learns my true name.

When it becomes clear that the one known as Kira is responsible for the many heart attacks among the criminal population, I make it my duty to bring him to justice. I quickly suspect that Light Yagami is Kira, but cannot obtain any concrete evidence. After having Light join my investigation team to analyze him further, Lights false persona and I soon become close friends. Although I cannot shake the conclusion that Light is the first Kira, Light is the only person I have ever identified or connected with, and I openly stated on one occasion that even though it would hurt my pride to admit that I have been wrong, I hope that I would be. Light managed to kill me by manipulating Rem into killing me for him, making her believe that she must kill him for the sake of Misas life. My last sight before death is Light triumphantly smiling over his defeated rival, and in his last moment I confirm to myself that Light is the first Kira.
