Another great page by Neil of DASIEN. Here's his commentary:
“I shouldn't even insult you by giving this away, but this is obviously an homage to Sailor Moon.
”For someone who was initially aprehensive about becoming a Valkyrie, Yuuki seemed to really enjoy that transformation. Loki, on the other hand, just doesn't understand magical girls.
“And once again, one of Kittyhawk's own drawings appear in this page. I'm sure you can figure out which one.
”There's another comic coming this Thursday! Don'tcha dare miss it!
“By the way, has anyone ever noticed that the music that DiC used during Sailor Moon's transformation sounded a heck of a lot like the second half to the Eric Clapton song ‘Layla’?”
I might add this is one of the first pages, in rough form, approved by Kittyhawk, Yuuki's creator.
Yeah, Chicago was REALLY the Windy City on Tuesday and Wednesday. I did have one major outage that lasted for a few hours, when one of the power lines got blown down. After that, it was a couple days of lights flickering. That's no good when you're working on the computer.
Ah, I should have learned by now that it's not a good idea to work up to the last minute. Oh well. If you don't see the new page tonight, I'm PRETTY sure it'll be up really early in the morning.
Obviously Neil, as he mentioned, got delayed because of power outages due to the bad weather in the middle of the country (I had to dodge a tornado down in the mid-South myself on Tuesday) but he always does a quality product when it's finished. And he's done a bang-up job with the last three updates.
And the next four updates after his are already in the "can", so to speak, already completed, so there won't be any delays on those.
i always wondered why their enemies didn't use that time to take out the girls, though i think that later on in the series there was some super enemy that kept attacking them, and thus weak ineffective attacks became quite deadly, it was hilarious.
ya, if you look for it you can see the difference in neil-sama's style and kittyhawk's. though you do have to look for it. it makes one really appreciate kittyhawk's that much more. i mean if kittyhawk's looks better than neil's then that is saying quite a bit (though i wonder if the same would happen if kitty drew dasien).
But Kittyhawk loves fan art! And this is very good fan art. The best kind in fact, the guest comic...on another comic, but you get the point.
Though she might still beat you with a stick for the Sailor Moon transform...but not very hard. ;) I'm sure she's laughing just as hard as I am...probably harder.
Thanks, Azu, but this is actually the least Kittyhawk-like page of the three. For one thing, it was the first one drawn, and so I was just then only getting familiar with her style. This one is kind of a weird hybrid of my art and the way Kittyhawk drew her characters two or three years ago. There are a lot of old Kittyhawk-isms in this page and not much representation of her most recent stuff.
Don't look at the last two pictures of Yuuki too closely. They start looking very dissimilar if you study them long enough. Still, I had balls enough to put them side-by-side without too much of a style clash.
Thursday will probably be the best of the three in terms of mimicking KH's style.
...before she beats me with a stick and tells me to cut it out.
Neil does a very good job of imitating Kittyhawk's style. I mean, look at those last two images, you almost can't tell they were done by two different artists!
This reminds me of that girl in Super Temps who can do the Sailor Moon transformation, taking a long time to finish, and when it's done she doesn't have any powers (she's just in the Sailor Moon costume).
I wish I could magically transform every time I changed clothes. "What's that, i'm late for work?" *Magically transforms into shirt and tie*. "Oh, you guys want to go to the beach?" *Magically transforms into bathing suit" "huh, Grandma just died?" "Magically transforms into black funeral suit*
It'd be convenient and classy.
Hey, Sailor Transformation! My second favorite in history. Number one slot however goes to Power Puff Girls Z, the Japanese remake that had them as magical girls.

ah lokki, who can beat lokki?

Comic might be a little late, gang. I live near Chicago. Winds have been picking up, making the lights flicker. Not a good time to be on the computer.

Whose archives, Oz? Ours? Hey, we just started. Yuuki's? There are two links on this site, it wouldn't be hard to find. Just curious.
Ozmandious at 5:34AM, Oct. 27, 2010
finally found the comic and read the archives. There should have been more!
Neilsama at 11:12PM, Oct. 26, 2010
I would squeal like a little girl if that happened.

The perk of his (or her) new role. The gender swap, not so much.

well at least she didn't start talking in rhyme at the end of it
TuuronTour at 8:23AM, Oct. 26, 2010
Yuuki likes cosplay (see Edda 2 at sgvy.com), that's why he enjoys the valkyrie outfit. The gender-swapping was his biggest objection.

Awesome work, Neil. Love the flutter of her skirt framing the penultimate panel.

Where's the fun in being a Magical Girl (albeit of boy origin) if you cannot do a flashy transformation sequence? ;-)
Nepath at 3:10AM, Oct. 26, 2010
Great transformation sequence and a very solid run so far!
Neilsama at 2:59AM, Oct. 26, 2010
And yeah, I am breaking form here, as this is not typically how Yuuki transforms, but I just couldn't resist!
