Super-heroes, upon meeting, tend to immediately team-up (Justice League and Justice Society) or immediately fight (Human Torch and Sub-Mariner) Any one of the HU members presently could probably take MM down in a fight, powered armor or no. (Which gives her strength in Spider-Man's range.)
So…she uses them against each other.
The field mentioned therein is not a spur-of-the-moment thing, but one of her principle defenses, the VRF field, explained here. After all, she's not dumb enough to face guns, missiles, etc., without appropriate protection.
My apologies. We heard from Neil last night when he was working on it but nothing so far today. As I've said I've seen part of the page---one half-colored. We're trying to get a response from him. If need be, one of us can color what he's done so far and post it. Just waiting to hear from Neil.
The reason Mind Mistress is a tough foe to fight is the same reason Spiderman is. Both are a bit more powerful then 'street' heroes. But both use the greatest muscle, their brain. It's easy to stop a world shaking threat if you got the powers of S man or a god. But when ya can at least hold your own against such threats without that level of power, that's when your truely dangerous.
Exactly.
BTW, Neil's doing the next page, and we'll upload it as soon as he finishes it, but he's running a little behind. Will upload it as soon as he's ready. I've seen the partially finished work, and it's really good. Readers of CROSSOVERLORD may remember Neil's pages were often a little late, but VERY much worth waiting for.
The two updates for next week, though, both by myself, are finished, so they will definitely run Tuesday and Thursday.
I don't see Mindmistress as really being a power house. Yeah she's tough, but what makes her truly nasty is her brains. Normal humans (ok, above average humans) have beaten her in the past. Heck, a lucky con artist was able to take her down. The ninja wanabees were able to hold their own. Smith (miracle) beat her too, and he's a normal person. As did the Mimir Institute.
The thing with Mindmistress is, yeah you can beat her. But defeating her is a whole nother ball of wax. Even when she loses, she's so hyper smart she is already coming up with at least 3 ways to escape and take you down. Why did it take her so long to stop Anasasi after their initial fight? Because she wanted to restore Viki first. But she already had plans in motion.
@thereddeath well, actually, if she went insane(not just antagonist) implying something happened to her outside of this story to cause her logic/plans/sanity to change, and imbue her with a desire to say, um, become the queen of the multiverse, for instance, and if she wasnt having a 'super' sleepover at that very moment, she could outfit herself with ANY of her devices and modifications, and further alter them to her own design. for instance, her battlesuit, osiristor, forcefuls treatment, genetic modifications and various living nightmares(as seen on metamother and lifeloom), utility fog, space loop shield, her transforming robots, and anything else i might of missed looking at the device page on al's webcomic. i think she can also visit one lucky scientist to obtain new elements not on the periodic table to do who knows what else. and if all failed, kosheis eraser to go out predator style if she wanted. so let us be thankful of double Ms firm grasp on reality, and for a morbid and ironic twist, be thankful of the smiling mans lack of, eradicating so many who could potentially have gone down that path for various reasons specific to their reality. still, evil mindmistress (mindmaster?) would be a pretty nasty villain.
I have to say, if I were asked to join Heroes United in THIS part of their continuity...I would turn them down. If I were already a member, I'd leave, whatever the cost may be...
I must say Al your art has improved a lot since Crossoverlord. I may have hesitantly given you a 4 before but now, I must give you the whole 5. Your shading is subtle but effective, and it really makes the art feel real for me.
If I had to pick a panel to critique, it'd be the second last. The chin seems a bit too far down in that panel.
If I had to pick your best panel on this page, I'd say it's number 2. Legend looks accurate and awesome at the same time, and the shading on MM is just perfect.
Moreover, this sequence more than anything has convinced me to read your comic. Seeing MM outwit a whole team of heroes has truly driven home to me the guiding principle of her character. I'd like to read more about her in short order.
In short, you have piqued my interest good sir. Good page.
AzuJOD; she ducks. Quickly.
Ozmandius: she faced gas several times, most notably in the first fight with Bloodlust. Basically, she improvises. Although recently, while fighting another foe, Tidal Wave, she added something to her armor where it can create a small gas/scuba mask, of limited duration.
And as I said, any one of them might take her out individually. Legend could have given her a bear hug and knocked her out easily. Tazer? Against a metal -suited heroine? Even more easily. (One reason she may have leaped out of the way.) And Nemesis---I'm not sure WHAT he'd do against her, but I'm sure he can give her a run for her money.
Heroes are also more likely to fight each other if they come from different universes.
Also, it says that her VRF will deflect anything coming at her at over 100 mph, but what if something is coming at her at 99 mph?
we should all hope that the double m doesnt lose her sanity. who could ever stop her if she utililized forceful's "treatment", in combination with any other of her inventions. she could put the beat down on superman.
Kam, you'll see an example of how unexpected superheroes dropping in SHOULD be handled next month. It'll make a nice contrast. At this point in their history, HEROES UNITE is hunting Energize and tending to be more "fight first, talk later". Tazer, at least, just said "hold still" but MM didn't obey, not sure of their intentions. And considering Nemesis actually is an out-and-out bad guy, though nobody else knows it yet---probably it's just as well.
Algeya: exactly. Although it would have to be a pretty quck thug, getting at MM's unprotected chin---but she's not worried about cannons, bullets, or the like. Anything really fast-moving is deflected away.
Personally I could never stand heroes fighting for no good reason.
All this situation required was a "Hello. Who are you, what are you here for & how did you get in?" not attacking before they even knew what the heck was going on.
Not that the heroes couldn't be prepared for a fight if it turned out the intruder was a bad guy, but attacking without finding out what the situation was first just makes them look like idiots.

And yet this story began with her being disembowelled and eviscerated. Think of that.

@dwrean: MM is only so powerful because she's a protagonist. The moment she's an antagonist, she'd go down hard.
Wes_Nero123 at 2:23PM, Dec. 14, 2010
Made pretty short work of top HU agents...
RemusShepherd at 2:18PM, Dec. 14, 2010
MM is not all-powerful, she has some limitations and vulnerabilities. But the smart money never bets against her. :)

so a thug with a mace has a bigger chance to take down MM than a tank with a gattling missile cannon?
