Here's my second page: Energize encounters something quite unexpected.
Am I allowed to give away trade secrets? When we work on Crossoverkill the story usually comes together through the throwing around of ideas and suggestions for scenarios. One such suggestion put forward by the others was for Energize to be blown away by the view and scale of Magellan Island, so this is my attempt at doing that some justice.
Also, although they play no part in the crossover, the cadets at Magellan Academy are the stars of the main comic so I had to at least cameo as many as possible in the background… long time Magellan readers might be able to pick most of them!
The next page will be up tomorrow so don't forget to check back as we get our first look at Hoodoo and her new costume.
Page looks great, and I appreciate your use of "ensure" in the first panel. It's a little thing, but DC and Marvel always use "insure," which drives me crazy. And the scope of the last panel is great!
This was a fun page to work on - it kind of borrows from Kaycee & Nadine's "whoah" moment in Chapter 1 of Magellan when they first arrive at the island (itself also a splash page) - here. It makes me wonder why I don't do splash pages more often!
@TuuronTour: that's right, darned speedsters, can't keep still for a second. I thought I'd include a few of the less well known cadets too. And I don't know if anyone's picked it but that's Bill and everyone's favorite pop idol Charisma Epoch flying above.
@al - each year has it's own color, and they are still wearing the purple of the first year.
@xmung - nice 'splash' page! I don't see Nadine, was she running ahead? ;-)
I love, love, LOVE this page. Energize's first sight of the huge complex that is Magellan Island is breathtaking. The superhumans overhead, the huge buildings, the entire first year (or is it second year now?) class that we've been following in MAGELLAN in the background, including Kaycee, Fatima, Rochelle, and Gifford. It's truly a "whoa!" moment. Magellan is the Legion Academy plus Avengers Mansion plus Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters all combined, with a hint of Justice Society, since it has several generations of heroes involved.
Heroes Unite, the only other super-hero organization Energize has ever known, in comparison, seems small and ad hoc in comparison---which is NOT putting down Heroes Unite. A lot of organizations would seem small and ad hoc next to the well-thought-out Magellan organization.
