the real question is what material did she create when she fused the casing of the bomb? i'd work it out but i don't know what the casing was made of. i am also excited to know we are going to get an origin story later on, i like those. though in the next chapter i am sure the gangers are going to find out why you always do precision snatch and grabs, either hoodoo or mindmistress is going to throw a wrench in their plans. not saying that energize or fusion are useless, but it sounds like they underestimate the other two, which is always a mistake.
Net: in Magellan's universe Chant wasn't expecting to leave so soon. When he gets close to when he thinks he can capture a Death, he prepares the spell to leave beforehand, so they can take their "prize" to....oh, but that would be telling.
However, there is a reason Chant is so powerful....and it's not just because he's from a reality where magic is commonplace as science is here. More will be revealed in Chant's origin.
Gotta say, love Energize in that last panel, he looks so lost... first everyone's talking all science stuff, now magic? He's like the big puppy dog of the group.
What happened with that old guy/Death from before? Did I missed a page?

Wow, what an opening chapter. My guess is that Yuuki comes to the rescue in the next issue, and hopefully the Majestic Knight gets involved--likely bcause he is concerned after his previous conversation with Mindmistress.
