Be very careful what you wish for–you might get it. There will be a few more pages–a concluding chapter–appropriately named…EPITAPH. –Al IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: There has been a lot of discussion among us about this final chapter, and many of us want to add to it, or tweak the original outline, so we're going to take a week or two to remarshall our thoughts. (Plus, one of us has jury duty.) Fan art for the time inbetween would be GREAT, so if you have any fan art you'd like to do for us, NOW'S the time.
You wouldn't need to wait for evolution. You could fabricate DNA artificially. It might take a couple thousand years, but with nothing but time on your hand, the crater will erode and he will find himself out of it and learning things he never had the time to learn before. That assumes he doesn't just figure out how to snag living things from other worlds.
I hope Hoodoo remembered to pick up those cursed sorcerers that wizard guy had strapped to himself. Seems only fair she'd try to do something for them.
Also, rebuilding the world by himself? He's more or less used to using lackeys, and since none of the Doppelganger Gang survivors will ever help him again, and there's no surviving humans for him to pull an Adam & Eve thing with, he's waiting until some alien comes along to assist him. He blew up his world, they're not likely to help either. More likely they'd put signs around it warning everyone away.
Trying to get that Bracelet back, is like Sisyphos trying to get the stone up the mountain. Kinda fits, based on the Similarities between President and Sisyphos.
That's true, he can't heal himself. If he breaks any bones trying to climb out, it'll just make his situation worse. What's really gotta be frightening is knowing that eventually he is going to run out of time. And by that, I mean that the sun will eventually become a red giant and we all know what happens to Earth then.
What Essaybee said about the doppelgangers. And remember, HE didn't invent the multiversal-connecting machine---a government agency did. Asking the President to repair that device would be equivelent to Obama or George Bush fixing a fighter jet.
And Neil--high, steep gradiant. Crippled by radiation poisoning. He's not miraculously healed, just deathless. Yeah, eventually erosion might bring the circlet to HIM---but as Essaybee notes, all the remaining Gangers would be dead. (Not that Syr or Suki would be likely to HELP him at this point. Would you?)
He's not going anywhere.
I won't say ever. Infinity is a long time. But he's going to be there for very, very, VERY long.
Also, since he's immortal, he'll outlive any remaining dopplegangers he may have. Plus, by the time he can ever create any kind of working tech to get him off his world (or to another dimension), which would probably be centuries or perhaps eons, his tech and knowledge would probably already be primitive to many outside universes. If he goes jamoecw's root, he'd probably have to wait for evolution to take its course, so he's looking at probably millions of years before he can even try to make conversation with a lifeform. And that's assuming there isn't some kind of catastrophic interstellar event in those millions of years to further slow things down.
Actually, I'm going to grant that he'll inevitably get out of that crater. If he's determined enough, he could conceivably climb his way out, but it'll take him a REALLY long time. That circlet that Mindmistress left behind looks pretty wrecked, and it'll take him a while to construct a new one. But in order to do that, he needs resources. Sure, he's got an eternity to get them, but it's not going to be easy. He could conceivably rebuild technology all by himself since he's got all the time of eternity to do it, but by the time he gets even the most rudimentary technology up and running, centuries will have passed. This guy is going to be boned for a long, long time.
i'm with unclerice on this one, given enough time he can rebuild. whatever end game he was planning can still take root, if it is evil he can rebuild the world, find a way to repopulate (not sure how though) and become a god within it (as immortal beings tend to do) and have an army like before. a prison is only as good as its guards. frankly i'd just rebuild and repopulate, then live in luxury, but i wouldn't have screwed over other worlds in the first place.
Oruncrest: Think about it. It's at the top of a atom-bomb crater with a steep gradiant. The President is crippled. No way he can go up it. Even if he upturns the wheelchair, even WITH the wheelchair he'd only get halfway up, and roll back down.
Sort of like Sysiphus in a wheelchair.
That's IF MM left the circlet intact, and didn't rip out some essential wire or circuit.
I doubt if the President will ever be able to find out.
I don't know, maybe I'm just too much of a builder, but I see him now having an eternity to rebuild his world. He may not be particularly mobile, but given time, it would be possible.

Maybe he thinks he'll be able to pull a Gaius from the MindMistress/Magellan crossover Buying the Stairway to Heaven?
