Due East - Book 4 Page 12

Surprised? This was the proverbial last straw for Carolyn. All this time, she's been trying to get over her mother's death and make something positive of her life. Carolyn was used to and could handle the racist comments. But in making it personal, with one sentence, Gina has unwittingly made herself a target for all of the rage and grief that Carolyn has been burying. Also, please note that Carolyn does not have any spiritual beliefs at this time in the flashback story.
And now, replies to previous comments:
usedbooks: I hear ya on that one, and I agree. :)
Tantz Aerine: Yeah, it's one of those things that would be great if it didn't exist, right?
trevoramueller: Truer words were never spoken, my friend.
DAJB and TitanOne: I think it's important to point it out. Some people think racism is only from White people, and I know from firsthand experience, it ain't so. (and I'm glad to still be breathing!)
albone: Well, that didn't quite happen… ;)
Molly Loves The KLF: I don't think Gina's gonna be on the tennis team again for a long while, if ever again. Problem solved..?
smkinoshita: Thanks. And, um, about that violence part-? >_

It's very intensely laid out--the tennis court backdrop adds a sort of "cage" effect to the scene.

Hell yeah. lol She had it coming.... like others said, violence isn't the best answer but sometimes it's the only way some people can learn lessons.

WOW. I first saw this while visiting my girlfriend, and when I saw the page I didn't recognize your comic. You do violence in a real, gritty style and that surprised me! Artistically the page is really well done, especially with the panel being broken for emphasis. Good facial expressions too! Great job!
TitanOne at 7:18AM, March 11, 2008
Wow...the art here is simply stunning. The faces are masterfully done.

oww that gotta hurt.
patrickdevine at 1:31PM, March 10, 2008
What have we learned about manners? I like the literal "panel break" in the second
trevoramueller at 9:23AM, March 10, 2008
Wow, I was just talking about trouble and look what happens - she gets a fist to the face! And it's about what she deserves, to be sure. :)

Whoa. I'm glad I remembered to come back here and check the page. The action is great and raw. I like that you'd put this into your story- this isn't some cookie-cutter Christian tale that's devoid of REAL situations. A+ work.
DAJB at 8:34AM, March 10, 2008
Heh - thought I'd accidentally stumbled into Rival Angels for a minute! Nice "back-hand" in the second panel! ;-)
albone at 8:07AM, March 10, 2008
Yeah, I didn't mean it when I wrote that I hope things wouldn't escalate. Lookit my comic for cryin out loud! :P Good for Carolyn, its not her fault if people are dumb to call out mom's and not expect a smackdown complete with hand stomp and bionic elbow.
Tantz_Aerine at 2:05AM, March 10, 2008
Well, that's what she gets for willingly trying to hurt a person who is already down. I'd say that's a lesson she needs to learn, Gina. Whatever the loss of control on Carolyn's part, Gina is not unaccountable for it. It's just unfortunate for Carolyn (and Gina) that it had to happen this way.

Hooray! We made the same page today! Man our females are just going too too overboard aren't they?! haha Great page! I love how she turns into a LION! Totally snaps! Awesome ^_^

I know you shouldn't wish harm on anyone but...I agree with Usedbooks. She had it coming. :( Poor Carolyin. That's ALOT of anger :(
blntmaker at 11:14PM, March 9, 2008
STEPPED ON HER HAND?! She'll never serve again. I think that poor girl just took thr brunt of a great deal more frustration than all the things she was just saying to Carolyn. Love the movement in the art, from the first punch to the restraint at the end. Great art! Great story!
usedbooks at 10:05PM, March 9, 2008
Yeah. She had that coming. Not that I condone violence, but some people need some kind of thrashing. (Mental/emotional beating hurts worse, but it doesn't work on some people. :-/ )
