Stop AAPI Hate
EssayBee on March 30, 2021
Fusion wanted to take a moment for a personal message. As many folks are probably aware, violence against Asians/Pacific Islanders has increased a lot thanks to racially charged rhetoric from many people–including those in (or who were in) leadership positions. A lot of idiots took those words as reason to carry out acts of hate against all Asians (and even Pacific Islanders), since–being low-intelligence moronic racists–they can't wrap their tiny minds around the fact that there are lots of different Asian nationalities and ethnicities. I hope everyone will join with Fusion in denouncing hate in all its forms.

No offense, but posting that message on THIS webcomic is a case of preaching to the choir. If anyone here was prone to racism against Asians, or any other minority, I really doubt they'd be reading your comic, with its clearly multi-racial cast.

Thanks, SRoach, for your very kind words about Fusion and the folks in her world. I agree that Fusion's message is likely preaching to the choir here, but the gal certainly didn't wanna stay quiet on the matter.

The other one I was looking for. For some reason, I thought they were the same article. https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-17820571

That said, the comic itself is probably your best attack on such racism. By presenting such relatable characters, who are visibly members of minority groups, you normalize them. Both the BBC and the UN have had very good luck with using media to improve tolerance. At least one South American country has used it to promote literacy, with measurable success. (Took me long enough to find this article again.) https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2018/03/16/593593501/invisibilia-inspired-by-american-idol-somali-tv-show-aimed-to-change-the-world

Stop the hate? Ha Ha! Hate has been with America since its founding and always will. Biden: "Hate is not who we are." Read American history. Hate is exactly who America is. Hate in America just changes forms from century to century; from generation to generation. Be it foreigners, Black people, or recently fair elections; hate in America is just beneath the surface waiting for a chance to come out. America will ALWAYS find a reason to hate all thing non-White. Hating Asians because of Covid is just the latest example. America will never change. Thoughts and Prayers... until the time that is...

That said, you can certainly make legit arguments about the causes/reasons for the spike, but saying it's made up or part of some conspiracy is to turn a blind eye to facts and data.
EssayBee at 3:12PM, March 30, 2021
Sorry. That guy's down the rabbit hole. The data shows spikes. That said, although the crimes are most often racially motivated, it is not a simple matter of White Supremecists acting up (as other media outlets would like to make it out as). Hate and racism isn't relegated to only one party or ideology, and there was another attack yesterday on a Cambodian and Chinese neighbor in Oakland (their cars were torched; https://www.google.com/amp/s/abc7news.com/amp/car-fire-oakland-asian-american-attack-hate-crimes-aapi/10457383/ ). The spike in anti-Asian sentiment is real, just as other racial violence has escalated in the past few years.

The measure of a person is not in the colour of their skin nor in their role in reproduction, but in the honesty of their words and the quality of their actions.

what happened now? is it something that united-statians did? anyway, to build on the virus subject you said in another comment, i know that Trump called it the "chinese virus" since his inception to no noteable effect (since i've not heard otherwise, hard to get all the foreign news) so why is there something that seemingly happen now? also, yeah, it bothers me as well when people conflagrate everything asian to "chinese". let me tell ya that this happen with all anime and videogames and im sick of it. if the show is colorful like anime, then its chinese, even if it where to come from india or france, ironically enough. pure ignorance
EssayBee at 1:43PM, March 30, 2021
It's not just one thing but a significantly escalated number of attacks on Asians/Pacific Islanders the past few months, frequently with the attackers calling them "dirty," to "go back where they came from," and other obviously racial undertones to the attacks. The likely reason is blaming COVID on China, which is all the reason racists (or those harboring racist beliefs) needed to lash out physically. Such attacks are happening seemingly daily and indiscriminately against all Asians (not just Chinese), which negates any kind of "political" argument.

Awful situation made by terrible people and carried out by idiots.

Amen to that.

Look we don’t hate Asians we hate the Communist Chinese Government. For what they’re doing, for the genicide of the Wegar Muslims, for the depravity of how they treat their people.
EssayBee at 6:23PM, March 30, 2021
hkmaly--Yeah, it's the lumping of all Asians/Pacific Islanders that moves the attacks out of a political realm and into a racial one. There are legit reasons to protest the Chinese government, as Dragonfire10503 has said, but these broad attacks on citizens here in the U.S. simply for looking Asian obviously are not because of politics (not that politics is justification for attacking another person). Data is still coming in, but early reports show an approx 150% increase in REPORTED anti-Asian crimes since the pandemic started, indicating a likely correlation. Quantifying hate speech and general nastiness is, of course, difficult (not to mention more subjective), but there is significant anecdotal evidence to show a significant increase in them as well.
hkmaly at 4:28PM, March 30, 2021
Also, I totally support One-China under president Tsai Ing-wen. I hope they will get rid of those communist terrorists ... (yeah, I'm aware Tsai Ing-wen herself doesn't see it that way ...)
hkmaly at 4:21PM, March 30, 2021
I'm genuinely surprised people so stupid to attack Filipino living in US because of "Chinese virus" really need any "racist" language speaking about "Chinese virus".
EssayBee at 8:43AM, March 30, 2021
Nope. I'm talking about the violence here in the U.S. against all Asians. Just the other day, a Filipino was attacked, and all of this violence has been rising because of racist language about the "Chinese virus" and racist idiots lumping all Asians (or people who look Asian) as "Chinese." What you're saying is being used by media to hand-wave away the complicity of certain government leaders. True, there are many reasons to protest the Chinese government (and I'm all for such protesting), but if you attack innocent people in the U.S., you're a racist--period.
