While to some extent, it was utter chaos, I do have to say that certain elements of this issue were strong. I think the most important takeaway from this was...this universe is huge and has potential to have a LOT of characters- any number of which could be fascinating studies in and of themselves. I think some real personality came out toward the end. :)
shastab24: Yeah, sorry, I knew someone mentioned somewhere you were a female but it slipped my mind - I'll remember that for next time :-) The characters thing would be something very cool - I'd like to see you write only a handful (4/5 members) in a fight as clearly fight sequences are a strong-point of yours. It's good that you're pushing yourself and trying different techniques others wouldn't, too (the jam issue for instance, I'd never even think of that until your attempt)- I'm definitely looking forward to whatever you pull out of your sleeves the next time round :-)
Ironhand, it's her. The anonymity of the Internet is what leads to that sort of ambiguity. In fact, one can look at the content of this issue, and the comics I've been running, and be able to divine why people in person will often think of me as male. But anyways, one thing I will endeavor to do better is to only have a managable amount of characters. Currently I'm trying to get contributors to the jam issue, though, which should be a completely different animal. But I also have been thinking of how I could continue the Stormfront story of Nepath's, to see if I could do something he would approve of.
In regards attention span and this issue, I don't think it really comes to do how many pages there are. If the story is captivating enough, then I will stick around and not get bored - sometimes it comes as a surprise to realise how many pages have been and gone. This issue was in fact 60 pages, which comes as a surprise to me too as after rereading it, it certainly doesn't feel like 60 pages. There are weaknesses in that there was an overdose of characters (or a lack of explanation to who they actually were) but this issue still was well scripted in regards the fight scenes. OShastab has stated that this wasn't the best written but I believe the next issues from him(her?) will be much better.
My issue comes to 38 pages (although I think melsr is dividing his pages which ultimately puts it to 40 pages) - hopefully you guys will like it and the amount of pages won't put you off. I think that will start updating in January. Thanks, guys.
This page was the first one I ever computer colored. There's a design element here I decided to drop (that Sparkle wears breast forms), and the art is far worse than I now do, but oh well. And so ends my first HA story. Not very well written, and I acknowledged that early. But I had already gotten some great art and so wanted to push on in order to showcase it. Future issues I write will be better written and, likely, shorter.
60 pages.. Geez. Maybe these should be broken into more digestible issues. I think Ironhand's ninja issue is around 40-50 pages as well. 20-25 pages is about where my attention span gives up.
The core problem with Heroes Alliance #7 was it introduced too many characters at once. Despite the lenght it didn't have time to show that many characteristics and it assumes the reader knows more about them and what is going on than the issue gives information (Jenny Everywhere/Nowhere rivarly being the worst offender). Admittedly it's fairly easy to recognize them if you've read their information from the forums and that public domain database where the rest of the new ones are from but the point is you shouldn't have to rely on outside sources to understand the story. On the plus side the battle scene, while overly long and difficult to follow at times, does contain some well drawn and hectic moments and the humor in the beginning and at the end works in its silliness (hopefully The Floccinauverylongname will return in a more major role). Far from the best this series has offered but most of the time it was harmless fun.
