Locavore
jazzy on July 6, 2012
Just when you think foodies can't get anymore obnoxious, they turn around and come up with “locavore”, their latest cutesy-buzz-word for an
idealistic, unrealistic, crusade.
In case you don't know…a locavore is:
“… a person interested in eating food that is locally produced, not moved long distances to market. The locavore movement in the United States and elsewhere was spawned as interest in sustainability and eco-consciousness became more prevalent.” wikipedia.org
As my good friend Roy Duncan says, ‘try being starved for a couple of a days, and then let’s see how picky you are.'
…IDIOTS.

Only place you can rightfully be a locavore is by patronizing your local Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. Yep, we support local producers and buy my little bit of meat according to a 4 on the cruelty-free scale (my sweetie's a vegetarian and won't have it any other way). But walking into a restaurant and demanding local produce? There's no such thing and it's unrealistic for these Beet-niks to imagine that their ordering a Big Mac and demanding local products on it will automatically make it so.
