Whilst the fires ravaging Australia at the moment are a tragedy.. I can't help but feel that some of the creatures there would still be putting up a fight all the way down to the wire..

Here the wildlife is so tough, the army went in to cull the emus once . . .and the emus won, with only 12 dead.
The Americian army came here to train, but retreated due to the toll inflicted by the spiders and snakes.
We also have a few birds that carry burning twigs to start fires elsewhere to flush small animals out.
Oh, and koalas eat Eucalyptus leaves . . . which are poisonous to other animals! But they also suffer massivly from Chlamydia. Yeah, lazy life, few preditors, but a STD gets them: a true Australian species!
@kiwifb: that was smoke, not dust.

Great strip to jump back in. I see Steve still has his own struggles to deal with.

Nasty claws they do have. But I believe they are falling from the trees drowsy from the heat. At least it happened previous years.
Disclaimer: I used to live in Australia and I am currently living in New Zealand. On the first of January we woke up to a red sun and the sky stayed yellow all day from the dust coming from Australia.

That's not a Koala, that's the Dropbear. You know, Steve's Koala-based "Friend" from his trip into the Dreamtime. And I bet the Phoenix is staying far away from Australia at the moment, not even it's famed immortality would protect it from public backlash if that firebird came here right now.
