How? Before Betty killed Paladin he was dragging himself along by one arm with fingers ground to nubs. The biggest issue is that when Betty killed Paladin, she did it because it was personal, she compromised on her morals. Did that moral scene with MM mean nothing? This is the reason why some heroes become villains in the end. How can she be trusted in the future when she clearly values personal vengeance over duty? When something happens and she feels that its personnel like with Paladin wither deserved or undeserved how can she be trusted to do her duty over personal revenge? Especially when her ire is undeserved? As a soldier she has her duty and a structure that comes with that. Can she be trusted to not go awol and dispense personal justice? How can we trust that she won't end up like Paladin? As in out of touch with a feeling of moral superiority. Betty has styled herself judge, jury and executioner when she murdered Paladin. What will happen when she does so again?

As an Enhanced Person and a formerly high public figure, the media was going to get involved at some point if he had been taken in. Regardless his plans were thwarted, everything had been reduced to ash figuratively speaking. I stand by my convictions Paladin should not have been killed, he should have been taken into custody.

how? sure there are a few empowered individuals that could hold him for a time without taking more limbs (which would no longer be an option if he was to surrender) but they can't be there forever, and both of those individuals on gov payroll have history with him, having tried multiple times to kill one, and having kidnapped the kids the other considers family, he'd get let out based on allegations of impropriety in the capture alone, even those not on government payroll would have trouble legally detaining him, as most are either direct or indirect victims,

Here's the thing if he committed treason which I disagree with, wouldn't it be better to televise what happens to people who commit treason? Put on a show in the court room, list to world what he did and than make it pay for it? In all honesty near the end a lot of his decisions were do to the mind meddling of the guy FC hired. He was not in his right mind, even a subtle change can have massive consequences to ones mental processes. Regardless when he was murdered Paladin was a defenseless cripple. Nothing excuses or should excuse cold blooded murder. What happened to Paladin wasn't justice, it can not nor should it be rationalized. Betty killed him because it was personal end of story. She would have made him suffer if Cutter hadn't asked otherwise.

he took actions that if successful would have resulted in the destruction of his country (world too but that's a secondary concern) the fact that he may have been duped doesn't change that it was by definition treason. as for televising who could safely restrain him, without acts that would be considered cruel and unusual?

Paladin never hired the Monster Hunters, he simply looked the other way. Yes sometimes he and the government put out a bounty on a really bad villain. They simply regarded the Monster Hunters as a necessary villain. As for mass murder, thats not on Paladin's head except for what happened at the Work Camps. Even than ES is a huge company with multiple divisions, I doubt he was aware of what was going on there. Even than we put mass murders in prison all the time. But we're going off track. The issue is Paladin was murdered in cold blood, he died because it was personal to Betty. It was petty and from what I could tell not sanctioned.

No he got some of his enemies (almost any super not under ES) put on their kill list, or at least it's heavily implied he did, you don't consider that kind of organization necessary unless you benefit from them,

Yes he'd have had a lawyer, but the lawyer would have been under surveillance. I doubt that the lawyer could smuggle in robotic equipment to replace Paladin's lost body parts.

It still puts a bitter taste in my mouth. I can excuse the other killings because they could be warranted. The mutant bicker gang, the Enhanced Superior group, the "Good" Reverend and the Monster Hunters were all aggressors who attacked first. As for the bounties most of them were put up by the Monster Hunter group and besides those are for people on the lam. Paladin would have been in Federal Custody. Besides he would be held up in court due to the Work Camp conditions. Well Enhanced Solutions would be and Paladin would be damned in association. The fact is Paladin's death deprived all those people justice as well, the validation. The fact is, I do not believe he had any mondaine power left to him. He may have had money, but does he have access to it? One of the first things you'd do is freeze his bank accounts. Even if he had cash he wouldn't have access to it. Paladin would have been maimed, crippled and placed in Federal Custody.

I suspect it was supposed to, i also suspect that those bounties aren't issued if there's any doubt on the guilt or the sentence, possibly even grand jury authorized, also remember, everyone who died carrying out his illegal orders thinking they were legitimate, are on his head, as is everyone whom he hired the Monster Hunters to kill. The work camp victims aren't as directly his responsibility however just with the illegal orders and soliciting contract killings, hes already a mass murderer, amd attempted mass murder.

Again I disagree, there are plenty of prisons dedicated to Enhanced of his caliber. If were going along that logic why not kill that Alligator villain or all those enhanced rounded up from that Enhanced are superior group? Even than, even people like them have loved ones and friends who will put up a stink about it. I'm not saying to let Paladin go, but he should have been taken in, put on trial and shown the world that no one is above the law. The United States is suppose to be above petty revenge killings. The law was written for times like this, for situations like this, so that everyone is treated equally under the law. Paladin had a choice he could have found redemption, he could have repaid his mistakes. But he was executed in cold blood before we could find out

And Paladin owned half those prisons, and had enough mondaine power to avoid being put in one in the first place, you are also forgetting that you are talking about a world where there are legal kill bounties, after what he pulled he was likely already indicted and had such a bounty on him.

I disagree, it was cold blooded murder. He was maimed and unarmed, she killed him because it was personal. The war was over, ES was taken down the only thing left to do was round up the servivors for trial. Paladin had nothing left no allies nothing. Everything he had built was gone. In fact he was babbling about making everything right before she murdered him. At the very least he knew he was wrong and willing to try and correct his mistakes

He was maimed but still very dangerous, there was still an active war going on with run of the mill villains, if left to his own devices, joining them would have been his only option, no one could hold him either. So it was either let him join the other villains, or make sure he never could. For all we know, his death could have been authorized by her superiors, it may have been personal for her, but she was also one of the only people whom could do it,

I’m trying not to spoil anything but what happened to Paladin at the end of the first book was an abuse of power. The United States is suppose to be a nation of Law and Order. The law is blind for a reason, we can’t have rules for thee not for me. Justice isn’t fair, it’s what designated by the law. Yes sometimes the law falls short and fails, but that’s why we can work to change it. Regardless of what Paladin did he deserves justice

No it wasn't, it was war, he became an enemy, he didn't realize it until it was almost too late, but he chose to keep going down that path, by the time it was over he knew he would either have to disappear or openly go villain, it was asset denial, he was too big of a threat even in his maimed state to be allowed to persist, if he was the foothold earned through the Replacements adventure may have been for nothing.
