@bravo: It's more like a big wicker storage basket. It can be seen more clearly on page 9. The texture is a medieval manuscript that I photographed at the Metropolitan Museum, and then photoshopped to hell.

@sway: I had fun designing the airplane. Her species can fly it using just their four paws, leaving their hands free to do other stuff (like shoot a bow).

I gotta say, I think my favorite part of this page is the foot harness system in the second panel. It's a really great little detail that does a nice bit of world building (when you consider the who's and why's of the original construction of the plane). Gorgeous work as always.
